Actually here, I'm clicking on the white balls and getting the option and the meshes make it ghost.

The chairs in the original screen shot and tables were indeed set up like limbs. I don't get why they would even do that. I can't. Oddly enough, though, the table set was part of the room, I was able to delete it rather than just making it invisiblehttps://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/c4c617ff-2c20-48c9-a78c-e953.bmp. In order to use this room, I'm going to have to. import the furniture in the screen shot

I uploaded a regular screen shot. The forum reduced it. In the future, I'll crop. But you're right. I unchecked the "allow degraded skinning" and everything that was skinned was left out of the export. Made it really clear what the problem was -- and Make Sub-prop was available.

Thanks.

Grabiller, I've given as much information as the manual gives for why it shouldn't work, and I was looking for what I may have missed. I have a scene exported as FBX from DAZ of a sci fi apartment with chairs and tables and lamps inside. I'm using the latest version of 3dxchange. Just checked yesterday. In the screenshot, I have just selected the closest chair.

See, with a screenshot, that helps : )

I believe your issue is related to the fact that, for some reason, all the meshes you have in your FBX are skinned with "bones" (or "locators", whatever).

In the screenshots, you can (barely, please make bigger screenshots next time) see items with a white sphere, typical for bones (not sure all white spheres are bones but it is a strong hint here). Which means the mesh you have in the same hierarchy is enveloped/skinned with all or some of those white sphere items.

In that case - like when you import a skinned Character - you CAN NOT make Sub-Props of skinned meshes.

Several workarounds comes to mind:
1) Re-export to FBX your original assets from the original software, if you have access to it, and disable any enveloping/skinning export option.
or
2) From 3DXchange, export to OBJ, then re-import the result into 3DXchange, the bones will disappear and you will be able to make Sub-Props.

Unfortunately I did not find any option, in 3DXchange, to discard skinning, either after having loaded a FBX file, or while exporting as a FBX file : /

Hmmm..... Guess it's time to guess. Your not getting any options, it looks like. No transform or pivot.

Try exporting a different format from DAZ?
"Save As OBJ" from 3DX and re-import?

Is this content you've bought, or is it something others could look at?

You're right. I clicked the one on the left, but it doesn't look like it. I also clicked everything in that tree individually. No make sub prop. I can re-export it all separately, but I'd rather master this for posterity.

Nothing changes when you select the one right above that in the scene-tree? I can't quite tell what you have selected, but it doesn't look like one of the chairs.

Any hints? I'm talking about normal props. The objects aren't bone skinned and the mesh isn't excluded. I've exported a scifi apartment with chairs and tables that I want to be movable. I can export them separately, but It would be great to have it work as it did in the tutorial.

Just saying "it doesn't work" does not help us much to help you in return.

You should give us a bit more information, softwares version, screenshots may be, repro steps, attached files perhaps, etc..

EDIT( a few minutes later): Oops! I think you meant exporting from iClone. This info is probably not what your looking for. It's about 3DXchange.

In most cases, when you import a scene (like a room full of furniture) each piece of furniture will be a separate object. There won't be anything attached at this point. Each separate object will have an entry in the scene-tree on the left. Notice that none will be indented. Indentation in the tree indicates attachment. If your importing an iClone prop, it may already have sub-props.

Have a look at this page.
