Hi, I am following the very first iclone tutorial creating a scene. When the narrator tells me to go to stage, lights and select self cast I do it. Now I can see enviromental changes when I manipulate the light with the rotation thingy but the trees and cottage don't cast shadows at all. Any idea's? I'm following along step by step...

Thanks for your time and kind help.

Which Tutorial?  There are a lot of "First" tutorials out.  It sounds like you are looking at a iClone5 version, but can't be certain based on your description.. One possibility however is that your shadow resolution or Bias needs adjustment.

Without knowing more on your source version or tutorial, help could be hit or miss.
