Thanks for the help...it was a G5 with G5 base clone cloth. With a combination of your suggestions and painting the shirt fabric on the lower section where tears still occurred I have success...(thank god it was a tartan, just busy enough to fool the eye). Thanks again.;)

Okay...tearing can be affected by a few things.
What characters are you using G5, G6 or other? Is the clothing third party or your own? Generally you can get rid of some tearing by playing with the soft cloth values. Try changing the material to something softer. Typically making the material softer allows the material to move more and thus not tear as much. Also try making the Soft vs Rigid Collision Margin higher.
Also ensure that you are using Frame mode as opposed to Realtime mode. In Frame mode soft cloth is calculated much more accurately than in Realtime mode.
If all that fails, try changing the movement a bit. If you are seeing temporary rips (i.e. rips for a few frames) then try slowing down the motion (thus allowing soft cloth to adapt) or changing it slightly.

Hey Guys, I have a problem with clothing tearing in action in IClone 6. My character is climbing a cliff, and doing it beautifully...the only problem is his ^#$ keeps sticking through the back of his open shirt. If I fix his ^#$ he ends up climbing like something completely mental...(I'm going for realism here). All I want is some way to stop the upper layer from tearing around the hips....any suggestions?
