Hi,

Does anyone know how to make a white glossy background with reflection ?
The same background which was used in promo video of Motion Montage 3 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19mqMjtY_i8

Thanks.

That is actually water with no bump map.

Add a water plain to your scene. Water is in the props tab. Then, in the water's modify section, delete the bump map by clicking on it so it's hi-lighted and then clicking on the trashcan button (very small, right below the texture tiles). Also remove any diffuse. Lastly, set the color by clicking on it's button.

Thank you for your qucik hep. However, it looks different. I took Water type 001, removed bump map and diffuse map, and changed the color for white but the result is different. It looks more like silky fabric than flat shiny surface with reflection.

Maybe other suggestions ? :)

That particular water may have a bit of reflection blur on it? Try changing the reflection blur, above surface clarity, etc, of the water.

The water is currently the only way to achieve what you are after. :)

OK, so I just went and had a play with it to get the optimal settings. So give this a shot.

Remove the diffuse and bump as you did. Set the color to black (otherwise it washes out the reflection). I forgot before, it's best to set the height to zero. That will be at the same level as the grid plain.

Those settings were in the "Basic Water Parameters", the next ones are in the section below that called "Advanced Water Parameters". You'll see a whole bunch more settings here.

Set the "Above Water Clarity" to zero.
Set the "Edge Softness" to zero.
In the reflection section, set the "Above Surface Strength to 100.
Set the "Reflection Blur" to zero.

The refraction shouldn't make any difference in this case.

Then, the very last step is to either add a white sky texture, or, in the Project panel, set the background to white. This last step gives you that nice shiny white reflection in the perfect mirror of the floor. That was the reason for setting its color to black.

Hope it works!:)

I must do something incorrectly because it doesn't work at all.
Could you suggest what kind of water I should use? You mean prop water or water in the water section?

You need to be using the water under the "Set" tab at the top of the screen in the "Water" menu. "Gentle Wave" should work. Just lower the height and maybe the size to what you need. Play with the parameters and you should be able to get what you need.
