The problem I may be having foremost with getting IClone 6 to run is this: I have Nvidia PhysX (32 bit) installed on my laptop (Windows 7) and when I go into its settings tab via control panel I see it is set on "no acceleration" and in spite of I see two other selection buttons of "GeForce PhysX" or "Ageia PhysX" I cannot seem to select either of these different choices as the buttons seem to not be able to light up.

I suspect I might need to just install something into my laptop to be able to select the "GeForce PhysX" button which I know IClone 6 requires to be running. I'm not sure what that something is though.

Any and all helpful advice will be welcomed.

In order to assist you, I have some questions.

Could you give your system specifications? Processor, graphics adaptor, etc.

Can you start iClone 6 at all? iClone 6 requires 64-bit Windows 7 or 8. PhysX is essential to use the built-in physics engine, but I think iClone would run without it.

Why did you have to install PhysX separately? It is normally usually part of the graphics drivers installation. Also, PhysX requires an NVidia graphics adaptor.

My laptop is an Alienware M15X. The system is generally a 64 bit operating system type, but has a built in adaptor to run 32 bit also when needed.

My Processor is as follows: Intel (R) Core (TM) i3 CPU M 350.

And I cannot get IClone 6 to run at all. It installed okay but will not open. I had no problem in this way with IClone 5, although it often crashed if I kept working at projects more than 5 minutes.

I checked the specs of the Alienware M15 and apparently it uses a GTX 260M.

I checked the specs of the GTX 260M and noticed that it does not support DirectX 11, which is currently needed to run iClone 6.

A DirectX 9 version of IC6 has been announced, which you should be able to run, with loss of some features.

I can't say how will it will run, though, as the GPU is below the minimum specifications. Especially the 1 GB video RAM may make it difficult to work with larger scenes with improved textures.

So let me see if I have this straight. My version of laptop does not support DirectX 11, even though it is installed on it? But there is to be a IClone 6 that supports DirectX 9 at least? When will that be? And are you sure there is nothing else I can do about my situation?

The problem is that your graphics adaptor doesn't support DirectX 11, if it is indeed a GTX 260 M. So having DirectX 11 installed is not enough.

There is an easy way to make certain by running dxdiag:

Click the Windows "Orb" and the type in "dxdiag" in the Search field. Click dxdiag.exe.

This will open the DirectX Diagnostics Tool window. Select the Display tab:

Look for the DDI Version value. This is the version of DirectX that your card supports.

The DirectX 9 version of IC6 is announced for February, I believe.

There may be something we aren't quite getting at. I followed your instructions exact. And I discovered my DDI Version is at 11. However, in comparing the image you attached in the post to what my "Display" reads, my Manufacturer is "ATI Technologies Inc." Also I discovered my Chip Type is "ATI display adaptor."

Sounds like you don't have the proper driver installed. It could be the standard driver that is installed with the Windows OS.

You can get the latest drivers for ATI cards here:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

EDIT: Oh, I see. There's some confusion about exactly what type of graphics controller is in the system. Go to that link and try the automatic discovery. Also, if there's a service tag on your system, go to support.dell.com and put that in the section that asks for the service tag. It will tell you exactly what your system contains.

If you can't find the service tag, here's a page that shows where to find it on Alienware systems:
http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/574974?c=us&s=dhs&cs=19&l=en

I clicked the link and followed the exact instructions you gave, and I am SO pleased to report after I downloaded this updater and ran it, then restarted my system I finally got IClone 6 to open up and run. Thank you so much. This is such a relief to me. :)

Good to hear! animagic's troubleshooting was what exposed the problem.

Those standard drivers can be deceptive because everything works when you do your normal stuff, but they're lacking a lot of advanced features. You may want to check for new drivers every few months because there are frequent bug fixes and optimizations.
