I have been doing this on an individual basis in 3DXchange Pro, but it takes alot of time and eay to make mistakes.
Anyone know of a good way to convert a large number of FBX files to OBJ files?
I'm converting terrain and props.

This looks like a solution...
It appears to be a plugin for 3DSMAX, and I don't have 3DS.
It may be by now there is a standalone version.
I'll contact the website and see what I can find.
Seems to me the dependence upon 3DSMAX may not be necessary for bulk conversion, since it is just converting the format of the files.
Thanks for the reply

Autodesk FBX converter goes both ways I think. It's also free! Pretty sure it does batch conversion. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=123112&id=22694909

I download the fbx converter. It reads like it should work.
Thank you, I am so up to my ears in alligators.
Sometimes it seems I'll never catch up.
Again, thanks very much.
