The only change I have been able to make, to a character's clothing during an animation, is to fade away clothing with the "opacity" slider. I have not been able to accomplish an actual wardrobe change, or even a fading away of clothing to show lingerie underneath, unless the clothing is upper body and the lingerie is lower body. If, at a certain point in the animation, I change the character's clothes, the new clothing goes onto the character from the beginning. Is it even possible to do what I am asking?

Thanks in advance for the help,

Bill Carey

Bill: :)

I don't think it's possible to change the clothing on camera in one scene. You would probably have to wait for a scene cut and bring in a stunt double (reload the character with the new clothing.) for that one.

I'm no expert with iclone so, if I'm wrong, someone here can set you straight on it. ;)

You could try turning Character's Visible Off at that point & then re-load Character with new Clothing. So at that point you would have 2 Characters. One invisible & 1 visible.

I'm just going to do a quick test & then post a Screenshot.

ADDED - it works.

1st Character visible On. 2nd Characer Visible Off @ Frame 1.

1st Character Off. 2nd Character Off @ Frame 400.

The Visibility option that Colour proposes is indeed a very effective way to have a character change clothing in the same scene. Unless you want a special effect, you would have the character out of sight while he/she changes his/her clothing. Which is usually not something you need to show anyway.

I did have a challenge in one scene where I wanted to show the coat a character had taken off hanging over a chair. So I needed to pose the coat. What I ended up doing was take another character dressed in the coat, bend it appropriately and then make the character invisible. I used a skeleton character actually, which was easiest to hide.

Clothing changes can be done...directly without switching characters, but it can be a tedious process that requires planning. This was done inside iClone with Video. Clark to Superman and back.

To save time I just turned on and off the only two accessories; Cape and Glasses.

This was done in iClone 4 initially, but still works. Some of the ambient occlusion needs a change, but it's just a matter of tweaking.
