My XMas wish, audio preview.

So I have my FX and music beds in the iClone directory so they show up in the app ... but ... since you can't preview audio from there before loading, it's pointless.

Please allow direct media preview. Thanks.

Good idea! +1

It would be best to post this in the wishful features list so it will get noticed. I would like to add my wish that we can view the audio waveform of all audio files, not just the speech files.

Thanks Tutor, I think I added it there once before. At any rate...

On a related note, audio imported into iClone and playing from there just doesn't sound very good in general, to me, mmv. Not sure what's happening there (summing to mono or reduced bit rate?) but it kinda doesn't matter since (with no audio plugins or a mixer) the audio has to be mixed in another third party app anyway.

I do wish there was an automatic way to collect, copy and maybe timestamp all of the project source audio files so when moving over to Vegas or whatever with the video export you'd have all of your source audio nicely collected in one folder and the timestamps would help spot it all. So for now I'm trying to nail down a workflow for all that, knowing I won't be using any audio (other than lip sync, voiceovers) exported from it.

Thanks. Great app.

best to do the only the lipsync in iclone, and use a render to do the sound in a external audio or video editor, if you use a audio editor you need the ability to import video so you can see whats going on.

the scene render does not need to be complete,
more just a placeholder render. for length.
but you do need to know what will be making sound and when and where it would be in stereo/surround.
you can replace the placeholder video with the final video when the sound is completed.

adding audio preview and seperate waveforms will not solve much. if you cant mix as well.
then you still have no audio effects,eq,fading. etc etc etc

i mean do you try to do a whole movie in one timeline with iclone alone? or use a external editor to piece together several scenes.
so why not use one for sound...

doing audio in iclone, is like using a hammer to remove screws.
save the resources and make it look good instead.

The purpose of being able to view the waveforms in iClone is that if you have some audio with fixed timing it would be easier to animate to it. Similar to what we already have for speech, which allows us to set and align the visemes.

i am well aware why you want it:D

you say the speech track has a waveform? i cant find that anywhere in the timeline.
i see just a box like the motions have.

if it is indeed there. (dont have time to look or test)
wouldn't dropping your sounds into a speech track/dummy avatar while advancing the timeline be a quick solution?

Of course it's there...:)

There is a little triangle next to the Viseme track. Click that and it will open the track and show both the waveform and the visemes. From the help:

Press down on the triangle next to the Viseme track. You will then see the Voice and Lips sub tracks.

The wave line may be used as a reference for adding lip-synching keys.

Using a dummy character as a signal carrier is a good idea; in fact, I suggested that myself a while ago. :w00t:

Still, still seeing the waveform directly would be more convenient.
