Hi all
When I am back up to speed with iClone I have in mind a project that goes something like this.
Nearly 100 years ago my mother used to listen to tales told by our old boatman, He was elderly when I knew him and he is long gone, However he told her tales about when he was younger and she was so interested in them that she made notes and then typed, yes typed them up and had them bound into a hardback book and gave them to her father for his birthday in 1920.(that's on the flyleaf) I would dearly like to make an avatar of him telling some of the stories, as they are very good. I do have an old photo taken in about 1936.I know this is the date because in the photo my feet and ankles are showing. Now the photo is black and white obviously and in its way it is quite focused, but he is wearing his old cap. I tried to do the 2d photo into 3d avatar and though it worked to a very small degree, it would be useless for what I have in mind. That would entail filming me giving an intro and then a cross fade (In post production) to him telling the story, I have recorded some of them using the Manx dialect as best I could.
So how can I create an avatar to be as close to him as possible? As I said in the title "d Photo does not work for a variety of reasons. So should I go to one of the 'creators' in the marketplace and see if it can be done, or is there a way of doing it myself.
Here's the photo. I think. It seemed to upload OK but I can't see it in te preview.
So what do I do?? h
Have a great Xmas

The main problem doing what you want would be creating the Head/Face.

iClone offers a tool for creating a Head/Face from a photograph, but for you to have any real success you would need a good quality image - and in colour for it to work. I can't really see you having much luck looking at the B&W photo that you posted.

That being said, there are quite a few very skilled creators around who may be able to work a wonder or two.

I really think you could get a pretty close likeness using the G3 Benny avatar or maybe the Bernard avatar from Chuck & the Neighbors pack...Benny's free though. The face shaping tools available should get you real close to your photo. I think you could find and acceptable mustache in the marketplace as well too ;)

Just a thought :D

Hi Thanks for the help guys. I thought that the pic being B and W would be the real problem. I found that out when trying to alter skin colour. But now at least I have a starting point. As the actress said to the bishop...'every little helps'

Cheers and a merry Xmas to you all

Photoshop has a function under the enhance menu item called "adjust color for skin tone". This function does a really good job of creating skin color on a B/W photo. There are sliders for blush/tan/temp.

It requires some additional editing to get it right, but "adjust color for skin tone" followed by "auto smart fix" does a really good job of getting you in the ball park of a realistic skin tone.

Just my version of Moe with Benny's head. I made the cap externally so he would look at least partially like the man in the image.

The character is Moe - Clone Cloth.

The Video is rendered in B/W to attempt a color match to the background image. Color removal directly inside iClone is easy using the Effects option.

I noticed glasses in the photograph, so I put some in also.

Cricky,

Nicely done, and what a wonderful Christmas present to the OP (original poster).

Two adjustments that might lead to perfection could be: 1) A nice big walrus mustache, and 2) Giving his tummy a diet but keeping his arms/shoulders "burley."

It seems that it's hard to make a husky guy without adding a belly, or at least that seems to be the case with most avatars.

Nothing is perfect.

I've put him on a diet, painted his mustache, rather than use an accessory, so it would move when the character speaks. Did a few overall modifications to make him more easily edited.
