Hi All,

Lately I've been getting random crashes when rendering MJPEG compressed AVIs. All is well right up till I select the compression type and then enter.

The rendering dialog comes up per usual, but reads "Rendering 0 of 1 Images."

The first few times it happened I let it sit to see if it would respond, but I've since learned that it's a crash and so now I just force the program closed.

Restarting doesn't seem to help, neither does rebooting.

The only thing that works is to keep trying. So far around the 4th try (after a reboot/restart) seems to work.

But it's another workflow slow down for me.

Anyone else have experience with this or know what might be causing it?

Peace,
Bud

I never use(d) MJPEG, but I tried and it seems to work for me, both for 32-bit or 64-bit iClone. I have no idea about the settings, but I used 8100 kB/s at 75%, as 81000 seems a lot. What would be the settings that you would use?

Thank you, Animagic,

I just use the default settings. After I typed my message last night, I rebooted and then it worked, but this is not always the case. Seems random, but when it happens it seems to happen a few times in a row.

I did think 81000 seemed like a LOT, but I was afraid to mess with it. 8100 is closer to the numbers I'm used to seeing in other compressors. I will try lowering the rate and see how the quality looks.

I like the compressor. Cuts the file size significantly without too much quality loss. Reminds me of the Panasonic DV Codec, which I used to use quite a bit till I began working in HD.

I'll keep an eye on it for any clues as to what might be triggering the crash.

Thank you for running the tests!

Peace,
Bud

Just by way of an update, I think I may have figured out this bug. It started happening again last night when I was updating renders. In the Save As dialog, I would select the old render to overwrite it. A dialog box pops up, warning of the overwrite and asking if I want to proceed (as it should). I select, "Yes" and that's when I see "Rendering 1 of 0 images" and it hangs.

After two re-boots, I had the thought to try making a new file name and NOT overwriting.

That did the trick.

I got caught again tonight -- same thing -- overwriting a file, then the "1 of 0" crash. Very next reboot I remembered to not overwrite the last render. Gave it a new file name and it worked.

Seems to be a problem with the system not allowing the overwrite, even after I select "Yes."

Just figured I'd update here in case anyone else has this problem.

I've only come across the "1 of 0" thing once, and for me it turned out to be that I had run out hard drive space. Hadn't realised that the projects (around 300) saved for my latest video had sneaked up to almost 20GB.
