Dear Members,
I know this not a iclone related question, but hoping that someone might have worked on it .To take advantage of faster rendering in Mobu - I wish to export my DAZ character to Motion Builder. The characters imports okay - but the hair and eyes look weird. I read on forums/help - and gathered that Motion Builder does not accept alpha maps - so I took the hair/eye texture to Photoshop and added an alpha channel - and applied this texture to the character in Motion Builder - and - lo, nothing happened! :(
I even tried inversing the texture/alpha map - and that didnt help either.

Has anyone managed to import a DAZ character in Motion Builder without this problem? Help PLEASEEE

Yea, one half lunatic but distinguish animator from this forum made several movies with DAZ characters in MotionBuilder. Here are 2 old examples, showing with author permission:

For alphas in MB you need to drag transparent shader to the model that have transparency in texture. Set of many basic shaders come with MB and they are all just drag and drop.

Hi thanks for replying, i tried to apply a transparency shader but still its not working.

Here is what i am doing

1.i exported a daz character as fbx with hair.
2.imported it in motion builder.
3.when i opened it alpha maps that are present are not effecting on the hair so the hair is not looking like hair.
4.now from shading elements i added texture shader as transparency map to my hair,to which i added the alpha map.
5.still everything looks the same.

is this what you suggested me to do ? if i understood wrongly, could you please elaborate the process and explain me..pleaseeeeee

Do this: from "Shader" folder in "Shading Elements" folder take shader "flat" (just for example, couple other shaders also have transparency option) and drag it to object, to hair.
Now in your Navigator window under Shaders you have different option to choose from; transparency or not (default is not), factor and type of transparency as translucant, accurate, matte, additive, etc...

Hi i did exactly as you suggested but nothing worked.

here is the work flow

1 .  Imported daz fbx into motion builder

2.  From shader elements--shader folder, draged flat shader on to hair object

3. Changed different trasperency options, nothing gave good result, only 1 or 2 options shown some transperency which is not good

i tried with other shaders also, but nothing is giving the result.

But the same character when i opened in maya, the hair looks good with trasperency/alpha map.i am attaching that sanpshot also.i need my hair to look like this in motion builder also

All what's left is to check does your hair texture have transparency in first place.
MotionBuilder works good with png, tga and tiff formats for alpha transparency. DAZ probably exported jpg without alpha.
For changing that, you need Photoshop or similar and whole new type of help.

Hi sen and animatom,

Thanks ,it almost worked now, when applied motion builders shaders and created alpha channels for the existing daz textures in Photoshop. But one small problem is still remaining. As the daz hair is a separate part i am able to add motion builders shaders to it and imported textures on to it, but the eye lashes are combined with the body.what should i do now ?

Regards
Eswar
