Greetings,

I have hit a snag on building some of my customer characters.

I created custom vector based eye sprites using inkscape that I want to import in to crazy talk animator and make their eyes movable.

I have seen tutorials on how to do this in flash but have been extremely unsuccessful doing this.

When I import my custom sprites in adobe flash cs5 and perform the exact step like the video states, my character eyes still don't move.

I have also tried this in serif drawplus 5. I was able to get the eyes to move correctly, but the quality of the eye sprite are bad, it looks very degraded. I imported the file as .ai (adobe Illustrator) and they object look crystal clear in the applications, but when I import them in CTA, they are degraded.

I have also tried to export them in Illustrator, which I was able to get the pupils to move, but they don't stay in the masked zone. So the pupil move complete out of the eye outline.

I am currently stuck. If someone has been successful in importing movable eye in Adobe Illustrator, do you mind given me instructions on how to do it?

Here are the step I am using.

Created 3 to 4 layer, depending on the eye sprite.

Bottom Layer = Eye Outlines
Middle Layer = Pupil ( I make sure that every shape on this layer is titled "Pupil").
First Layer = Masked Layer ( This is the same shape as the Eye Outline, Minus the Stroke)
Optional Layer = Eye Lid

Export the file as the following "AI Layers to SWF Symbols".

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Janell

I also included a screen shot of the eye sprites and my character.

I use DP to make eyes and have had no problems with it.
What size are you drawing the eyes?
If you are making them too small then yes you might suffer some degradation.
Also, your line widths, if too thin, can cause problems.
My eyes typically have a height of around 2 inches and I use a minimum of a 2.5pt line width.

Sorry but I can't help you with AI.

The eye size in DP is a little over 2 inches in height and width and it still comes out degraded.

Here are two screen shot to show you the difference.

The first one is how it looks in DP.

The second one is how it look in CA.

If you zoom in on your eye it will look good once you get closer but zoomed out it does not resolve very well. This is because the lines are not wide enough.

If you look at the eyes on comic character Eddie 03 you will see that the outlines are very broad. Take that character into composer and replace one of the eyes with your eye and see the difference.

Make the lines at least three times wider and you will see better results.

Finally got it working the correct way in Flash. I switch my workspace view to "Designer" and the property window stayed up for me to enter everything correctly.

DP5 is still too degraded for me. I am glad it works well for you, but there was a big difference when I exported from Flash.

Here are the screen shots.....Zoom in really well and you will see the difference.

I wanted to be able to zoom up close to my character without it looking stretched.
Flash maintain the same vector quality I drew it in.

Thanks for your assistance. I truly appreciated.

The first one is how it looks in DP.
I think it is a vector draw

The second one is how it look in CA.
looks to me, it is now rasterize (converted to a pixel Image)

You must draw closed shapes in DP, otherwise you will lost the vectors after exporting as swf and you get a pixel Image in CTA.

They both were the exact same image. and all of my sprites are closed. I drew the eye lid as closed shape with no stroke and I drew a line over top the eye lid.
