Thank you for the ideas... One last dumb question i can put my textures on in 3dxchange... If i understand you correctly i can clean up my mats in photoshop...then reapply them in the 3dxchange? i want to avoid dealing with daz lights a second time... If this is correct this should solve my problem... thank you for taking the time to help me...from the looks of things it's pretty late where your contacting me from. Thanks for being a night owl

When you say "glow" are you referring to the "shine" i.e. the specular setting? There aren't any glow maps when exporting Daz characters. The specular setting however is dramatically different from Daz to iclone. I typically will reduce the specular to 10 either before export from Daz, or if I forget, I do it inside 3dx before exporting to iclone.

btw, while we are on the daz topic, is it just me or do 90 percent of the daz characters look like they have a wedgie ? #justsayin

There is a "clothing cleavage modifier" that you can buy that fixes that problem. It has to do with the auto-fit tool.

Furthermore, the default lighting in iClone will give extremely dark edges. I always change the lighting.

Diffuse light: light gray with a multiplier of 1
Ambient light: dark or light gray

This will make a huge difference. Black ambient light is only appropriate for at night or a special effect.

When Using iTrees, always set your lighting for the trees, as their material/texture cannot be edited. Then adjust the materials of your avatars and props if need be, as they can be edited.

ya, what rampa said - and what i was referring to earlier, there are so many little adjustments that you can make in iclone, from setting textures, blending textures, using normal/bump maps, lights, ambient lights, ambient colors on textures, ibl lighting, hdr lighting, warming edges with the blur effect, warming lights by setting new intensity or using spot lights... you have a lot of power to get the look you want. - chances are these dark edges were used to enhance the render in daz, daz has some very nice bump map work but they don't always translate the same in iclone and need tweaking.

By double clicking the little boxes in the texture/material section of either 3DX or iClone, you can load new materials onto your models. There are many options, but the main one is the "diffuse" box. It should show a thumbnail of your texture.

I just realized that you may be seeing a material problem rather than a texture problem. After you import your DAZ model to 3DX, check to see what the diffuse and ambient colors of the skin material(s) are set to. If the ambient is black, that would have a pretty strong effect on the appearance.

another approach you can do is to photoshop the texture itself to remove the dirt from the skin. some of these colors come in the jpg itself.

i think for the look you want, you may need to do a few adjustments to both lights and textures. you could also try baking the textures to the lighting you like in daz, then calling that baked texture up in iclone so you can have the best of both worlds.

truth is you have a variety of ways to achieve the look you want, but no one straight forward 1 click solution. I'm enjoying the way the daz characters are coming into iclone myself, but i admit to doing texture work.

I agree about the wedgie... I am attempting to send some of my renders... i am using character lights... I am hoping to use my characters as billboards in iclone... I've given up hope of using them as 3d models in iclone... The models i create have a dirt on their skins from the shadows... i have trouble with firefox when it comes to attachments...

I hope there is a answer to my shadow problem... Does anyone have any thoughts on painting new textures and lights in photoshop then exporting the model into iclone? thanks for all the replies
