Thanks for the response. I'm one of those people that likes to make their systems cryin pain :D. I know I'm doing something that iclone isn't really made for so hopefully the memory upgrade will give me operating room with windows since its a big hog in memory itself.

Bwaaahhh ha haaaa.....good one, Mike! :) I also tend to make my computer squeal "My lord, my lord, what have I done to deserve this?".

I truth, yes, I like to try to push iClone as far as it will go on a shot, if the shot calls for it. One of the reasons I love the 64 bit beta of iC5 is that it allows us to put more than just five avatars on a complex set for animation....or allows me to put two of my high face-count star ships on screen at the same time.

Have fun with iClone.

Steve

Your ATI Radeon HD 5700 series  graphics card could be the problem too! Look here at bottom of page for recommended Graphic Cards.

Hope this may help you :)

Thanks for the response.  I'm one of those people that likes to make their systems cry in pain :D.  I know I'm doing something that iclone isn't really made for so hopefully the memory upgrade will give me operating room with windows since its a big hog in memory itself.

By the way my computer specs:

AMD Phenom II X4 840T processor

Current 6gb of memory (being upgrade to 16gb)

ATI Radeon HD 5700 series (not exactly sure which model exactly) with 2gb of video memory which isn't embeded so its external to the motherboard's junk of a video card.

The reason i'm hoping its the memory causing Windows 8 to run really slow or stall out completely cause I've had the same issues with Luxrender when it a point that show my memory usage way up so hopefully the more memory will cause windows 8 to write to the pagefile a lot less cause I know the hard drive is running like hell when its that freeze status.

So fingers are crossed cause I really don't want to have to render these shots in a slow renderer like Daz Studio just for a couple of seconds of footage.

Hi Mike,

Adding more system memory will certainly go a long way in reducing the freezing or crashing, but there are other factors at play that have to be considered.

One major factor is your graphics card. If your graphics card is weak with low on board memory, or especially if it is an integrated card, this will also cause problems if the graphics card can't cope with the textures in the scene.

Also no matter how much system memory you have, if a project is extremely large or overly complex, it may eventually just put too much strain on iClone to maintain stability.

Really I think every user will soon begin to notice the danger signs when they start to reach the limits of their system. For example when everything starts to slow, and response is sluggish, then it is time to call a halt to any further growth of the project.

Ideally you should always try to break very large projects into smaller more manageable parts that you can later edit together in your video editor. In the long run it will save you a lot time and headaches.

Before I truely ask the question I'm going to ask.  My computer currently has 64biit windows 8 pro and pretty decent AMD processor and updating the processor and harddrives are out of the question right now so that leads me to memory.  My current system has 6gigs of memory.  I'm using Iclone 5 pro 64bit version.  The scene is a big city scene.  The buildings were imported from other source and is high detailed and hi quality and hi poly count after importing all the buildings in the scene so I know that will drain my computer and I've looked at the task manager and iclone shoots up to over 3 gigs memory usage but that's when my computer just freezes for a while before I'm able to do anything and even the mouse pointer freezes.

This brings me to my question?  If I increase the amount of memory in my computer which is already prior to this problem be upped to 16gb but I was just wondering if the increase of memory that will take place will make the computer run smoother when working in iclone and other apps.  I know that iclone will probably still chug some because of the high poly count but I would at least like to beable to use the computer.

So if any one knows if an increase in memory will keep the computer from freezing up completely and as stated upgrading the processer and drives right now is out of the question.  The memory is already in process of upgrading for other reasons.

Thanks in advance,

Mike
