However, I'm not familiar with the advantages/disadvantages of all of the various File Export CODECS. Someone such as Job (Animagic), would give you more-informed advce re; that.

I'm flattered...:)

Gerry (wires) already gave you good advice. I also use mp4 with the h264 codec. Works well for YouTube, Vimeo, and possibly other hosting sites.

There are indeed many codecs, but most are older and not particularly useful.

OK I contacted support and found the answer. When iClone shows 1000 frames on the time slider it is assuming 60 frames per second. The slider doesn't change when you change the export settings. The best way to explain it is to demonstrate. Move your time slider to 1000 frames. Now click on the clock icon next to the time/frame readout. Change the time unit settings from FRAME to TIME. Now look back at your time slider it will show 16:64
Now 16.64 x 30 is 499 and yet the time slider shows 1000. 16.64 x 60 = 998.4 which means the time slider is thinking in 60 fps. When it shows 1000 frames it's the same as 16.64 seconds.
It's a bit confusing but it's the way it is.

I am having the same problem. I always render in image sequences and if my comp is 2000 frames iclone renders only 1000. It renders the entire comp but only half the number of frames. I have been dealing with this since day 1. I have a mega PC with 24 G memory and solid state hard drives, Quatro 4000 video card yada yada yada.

It has been weird but not too much of an issue until now. It renders the entire comp just half the number of frames I request.

Today I needed 260 frames @ 30 fps in After Effects to fill a gap. I went into Icone and set the range to render out 260 frames (30 fps) in an image sequence and again it renders only 1 frame per 2 I took them into After Effects and it was only 130 so it did not fill the gap. It was only half the length of clip I needed. So I went back to iclone and rendered it at 60 fps and took the same comp into After Effects. Now it is half the speed. AE recognizes it as 30 FPS. So if I need 260 frames in AE then I must set my comp for 420 frames in iclone. This is very frustrating. In Maya or 3Ds Max, Premier Pro, you name it. They all render the range of frames you request but iClone apparently renders 1 frame per 2 frames with no way to adjust this.

It seems like this would affect the quality and smoothness quite a bit. I'd just like to know what the heck is going on . It is not interlacing, I am familiar with that and iclone doesn't seem to support it, at least in exporting an image sequence.

Hi Venger,

You posted:

In my NLE (Adobe Premiere) I am exporting the assembled clips out to h.264 Apple Quicktime. Is there another codec you would recommend?

The h.264 is a very good "all round" Codec that can be played back using a whole bunch of software, but I would try and avoid using Quicktime .mov as a wrapper.

Due to the way that the fruit merchants like to collect money from anyone even thinking of using anything that might be/is out of their house not everyone can play back mov files.

Use .mpg4 with the h.264, it's the same result with the same compression - only difference is that it doesn't have Apple written all over it.

Thanks colour

I can't wait to get home and try the sliders.

My intent is to post videos in youtube, but I just started a basic account for vimeo. I haven't researches all of vimeo's capabilities though.

I have been rendering apple quicktime .mov that seem to work ok with youtube without throwing a sync error message from youtube.

1) "Triangular Objects" (Sliders) - Yes.

2) NLE Program Export File Formats (CODECS) depend upon their intended purpose. It also depends upon how well your NLE Program handles a particular Export CODEC.

I Export to MPEG4 720p HD for Upload to Vimeo HD. Looks ok to me.

However, I'm not familiar with the advantages/disadvantages of all of the various File Export CODECS. Someone such as Job (Animagic), would give you more-informed advce re; that.

Thank you for the reply colour
Thats very helpful

If you Export to Uncompressed RAW AVI in iClone, the Rendered File will appear jerky (Out of sync), depending upon your PC Hardware Specs, untill Rendered to a compressed File Format, in a NLE Progam.
The reason for Exporting to Uncompressed AVI in iClone, is to get the highest quality Input for Post iClone Production in an NLE Program.

Yes I am using an NLE to assemble the clips I export from iCLone and have been using the uncompressed AVI setting. It is good to know.

If you have your Timeline Timescale set to 2000 Frames but your Scene Timescale is 1000 Frames, iClone will actually only Render (Put together) 1000 Frames in one contiguous AVI File. The remaining 1000 Frames are "Empty" - To put it simply. You need to drag the left-hand Timeline Scrubber Slider to the end of your Scene, before you Export. If you don't you are in effect Rendering "Empty space" & wasting a lot of time "Rendering" something which isn't there..

I don't quite follow when you say the "Left-hand Timeline Scrubber", do you mean the triangular shaped objects on the timeline, one on the left and one on the right that sets the range, sort of like the in and out points in an NLE?
Or the white bar that can be stretched?

In my NLE (Adobe Premiere) I am exporting the assembled clips out to h.264 Apple Quicktime. Is there another codec you would recommend?

Thanks very much!

Hey Bud,
That is very strange that your preview works but renders don't! I have not had that problem. So far my character and cameras/other animations perform as expected. Thinking on it, I can't come up with any possibilities to you to try.

It's quite bizarre and I still haven't found the problem. Preview is fine, but the character's animation renders out of sync (slower). I have only tried using AVI.

Maybe someone else who has had the problem will see these posts. Or maybe one of the programmers will have a theory as to how it could possibly happen.

I thought of it being a setting, but I can't imagine why an out-of-sync animation would ever be useful. In other words, why would there be such a setting?

Peace,
Bud

If you Export to Uncompressed RAW AVI in iClone, the Rendered File will appear jerky (Out of sync), depending upon your PC Hardware Specs, untill Rendered to a compressed File Format,  in a NLE Progam.

AVI File Format is a "Container" File that contains a variety of different CODECS used for different transport purposes. Excepting Uncompressed RAW AVI & DV-AVI.

The reason for Exporting to Uncompressed AVI in iClone, is to get the highest quality Input for Post iClone Production in an NLE Program.
