Trying to drag a video file with transparent background into my scene, but in iClone I get it with a black background. It does not happen with png, which indeed keeps it's transparent background.

Only after conversion in popVideo Converter, the clip comes with no background, as required.

Is this the way it should be?

Since I don't use PopVideo I find, if I'm doing say a Greenscreen shot in Vegas Pro, my NLE of choice, I need to render a matte key (black & white) version of my video and use that in the Opacity setting for the clip to "cut out the key".

So I need two video clips (avi's or wmv's) in iClone...a video clip for the Diffuse channel and a black & white version of the video's "matte key" for the Opacity channel.

May not be the best way but it works for me in making the background transparent. ;)

Just wanted to be sure it's not something wrong with my system. And a still image and a video clip are not equal when it comes to the transparent background in iClone.

I thought there was a way to cut down a step or two...

Yep looks like iClone doesn't recognize alpha channels in avi clips...Rats!!! :w00t:

If only iClone accepted sequenced png's and other sequenced images.
I always render to image sequence in most of my software (often with iClone too) but need to convert it into avi using virtualdub for iClone.

I usually do sequenced png's in case stuff crashes etc so I still have some of my video but also because they work best as animated textures in Carrara and I can change the tweening easier to loop, reverse, oscillate them, also avis are massive files and give codec issues in a lot of my software.
I actually often convert stuff to wmv to use in iClone for that same filesize/codec issue!
And yes I can play just about any codec using Win media player but not all my software plays as nice including iClone.

Oh yeah! That's the way I prefer to export from iClone...if we could only import into iClone ;)
