I understand you are thinking on a very clever way to use PopVideo! Using it to replicate elements produced with the same iClone, to save polygonal effort in the video card!
Clever indeed! I was thinking the same. PopVideo is not exclusively for camera video or real scene elements.

I have done some complex cartoon video commercials, where chewing gum soccer players fight for a goal. The scene is in a huge stadium and I had to do cheering people, by lots and lots.
By the time, I was working straight from MAX so I did prerendered characters with alpha background. Then I assembled planes with video texture and conveniently placed in layers I could use and repeat unnoticed, to create a cheering croud all around the stadium.

The possibilities are endless within iClone and actually a new production philosophy (if we can call it this way) is emerging.

Using plain uncompressed avi formats might be wasteful of memory and would make a sticky process to work around.

If you want good resolution and you might need to get close to the fake actors I would recommend 800 X600 and you can go up to 1024 x 768 (keeping the 3:4 aspect ratio), use the Microsoft mpeg4-2 encoder, setting the key frames to 1 sec. and the bandwidth to 6000 kbps.

Use a background green of 240 units (not 255 as it will saturate). This format will render and save very quickly!

If you are never getting close to the planar video pops, you can go as down as 640 x 480 which will make things go very fast!

I hope this will help iCLone producers to understand better how and when to use PopVideo!
