Hi, I'm new here and I've only just downloaded the CTA3 trial as I'm testing out software to find the one that suits my needs the most. But one thing that I've noticed is that the G3 characters, compared to the G2 characters seem to be a 'step backwards' from what I can see. Mostly due to it lacking '3D Motion Key Editor' capability.
Am I missing something?...

G3 Characters should be thought of more as an expansion instead of an upgrade. I still prefer to create G2 Character because I enjoy using the multi-dimensional angles, and I believe I can get more out of a G2 "Human" Character than a G3 Character. I think people have yet to discover the full potential of G3 Characters because everyone is still focused on creating human characters instead of unlocking the possibility of being able to manipulate anything. A G3 character does not have to be a character it can be a object. Having the ability to bring anything to life is what makes CTA3 so refreshing.

Thanks for the explaination, I appreciate it, and it makes sense. I guess I was expecting it to be similar to character generations in iClone, where (I think?) each generation is generally an improvement on the previous one, and not just an alternative option/style to use. Thanks for your help .

Hi all I just found out this software and I was amazed to start wit CTA3. The point is that I love to draw my characters by hand so I love the idea that I can draw everything and bring them to life just dragging and dropping jpg. files
But then i realized that the C3 characters (on which I can apply the bones on a image) can't move in all the angles like the C2 characters, is that correct? So technically with the new CTA 3 I can't get the outcome in your video ' How to: Pose a Character to Hug in Crazytalk Animator 3' just adding my characters in the software. If that is correct ? do you guys know a way how to do that?

Hello Leandro,
You are correct! G3 Characters are not 10 angle characters like G2. I still favor G2 Characters and that is the content I normally create. If you like drawing your own characters, I suggest you draw G2 instead of G3. There is a lot more work involved with drawing G2 Characters. I have not attempt to animate G3 Characters hugging so I can't say for sure if it can be done. I will have to play around with it more before I can determine if and how it can be done.

thanks a lot for the answer! the problem with C2 is that as far as i know is not possible to scan an entire figure and add to the software to let him move! If I'm not wrong the image of the character needs to be splitted into different layers (arms, legs, head, etc..) and add them singularly to a C2 character. The problem is that I should draw on computer though some software like photoshop in order to have layers.so this doesn't work with drawings made by hand!

I am not sure I fully understand your statement. I make G2 Characters, and I import the entire character in all at once....and my characters are hand drawn, meaning I drawing using a drawing tablet in Adobe Animate. If you own the Pipeline Version, then you will need to add them into the application piece by piece. However if you own the pipeline version, you will be able to import everything all at once.

yes the problem is that I would like to draw by hand but on the paper ( old fashion ) and then scan and import in the software...but if this is not possible is not a big deal..I have also a tablet. [b] If you own the Pipeline Version, then you will need to add them into the application piece by piece. However if you own the pipeline version, you will be able to import everything all at once. I didn't understand your statement too with the pipeline version I have to apply piece by piece of everything at once? I'm still learning how to use the software so my questions can seem silly!

You can hand draw your character, scan, and then import the character into CTA, or you could use the tablet. I actually prefer the tablet, but I still sketch up some of my characters on paper from time to time. G2 characters are made up of hundreds of pieces. You can import all of these pieces in all at once with the Pipeline version. The Pro version will require you to import each piece individually.

For my needs (cartoon shorts) G2 characters are much better. I have CTA3, but it's questionable whether it was worth me upgrading. I'm hoping that G3 is the step before making G3 10 angle (or even more like iClone and fully 3D)
