Greetings to our users,
Thank you for your long-term support and we wish everything has been going well for you, thus far.
This year starts off with the introduction of AccuLips and new facial capabilities of ExpressionPlusfor iClone 7.9 in March. Smart Hair shader with Smart Hair component design was also introduced with Character Creator 3.4, elevating visual quality. In April, Character Creator rose up to become the best digital human solution for the NVIDIA Omniverse platform, in a bid to fulfill the demands in media/entertainment, architecture, engineering/construction, games, and machinima. In June, full Blender Character Pipeline and iClone MetaHuman Live Link are introduced to bring out quality character / animation to Blender and Unreal Engine. All of these updates originate from our ambition to serve professional—and hassle free—digital human and character animation solutions to the world. And this is just the beginning!
Expect to see updates to ActorCore, Omniverse plugin, Unity Auto Setup, and iClone 8 / Character Creator 4 work-in-progress for the second half of 2021!
Expression-ready Low-poly Characters Available in ActorCore
ActorCore supports over 1,300 mocap motions, and soon will be upgraded to support quality low-poly characters for use in 3D crowd scenes for game, film, business/training, media/entertainment, architecture, engineering and construction, etc.
All characters are compatible with ActorCore motions with support for facial animation. Poly count ranges from 7K to 10K quads with a single 4K resolution material.  AI Driven Facial Animation for Character Creator
NVIDIA Omniverse Audio2Face AI-powered applications can generate expressive facial animations from an audio source. With the Character Creator Omniverse plugin, users will be able to export Audio2Face-ready characters, for fast animation in Omniverse.
iClone Animation Comes to Omniverse
Followed by Character Creator, iClone Omniverse Connector will be released in the second half of 2021. Take advantage of Omniverse real-time raytrace render and creative collaboration. For Omniverse users, iClone is the must-have tool for generating full character animation including lip-syncing, facial expressions, and body motion.
Open Source of Unity Auto Setup
We provide open source for developers to quickly customize this tool for their projects, which doesn’t mean that Reallusion will stop updating the Unity Auto Setup plugin. Reallusion will continue updating it and sharing source codes to the community in early July. More information will be revealed on this sub-forum. UPDATE (July 14th): The source code has now been released. Please find it in the post below.
iClone 8 and Character Creator 4 are on the Road!
iClone 8 and Character Creator 4 work-in-progress will be shown in the fourth quarter. The following post will share the roadmap ahead along with relevant technical breakthroughs. For sales related inquiries and specific launch date, please wait for further notices from Reallusion.
iClone 8
Embedded Motion Matching mechanism and motion library makes animation creation simpler than ever, while Motion Editing empowers professional editing - flexible and effective!
Here are some examples: - Motion Direction Control: Supports manual motion clip redirection and pivot reassignment for motion alignment.
- Bi-directional Motion Blending for Smooth Motion Transition: Remove mechanical and sudden transitions between two blended motions by defining the blend range to fade out / in the overlapped portions of the two adjoining clips.
- Animation Layer (Multiple Animation Layer Compositing): Supports reliable, flexible and effective motion part editing.
- Hand Key Motion: Reliable and easy to control.
Visual Enhancement has been introduced before (ref. What to Expect in 2020), and the functions will be more mature and sophisticated in the final product.
Last but not least, the software architecture of iClone 8 has been optimized, and more new features will be introduced to handle big-scale projects. For example: - Support for GPU computation for character animations.
- Hidden objects will not be processed in the background.
- Support isolating object(s) - a quick way to isolate selected objects for editing.
- Collection Manager will be introduced to freely categorize objects in Scene Manager, so users can quickly and easily show / hide defined groups.
- The merge project feature supports merging objects across different projects, which will benefit collaboration, and facilitates working with existing projects.
Hotkey Manager is one of the usability enhancements slated for iClone 8. More information will be provided in the fourth quarter of 2021. Character Creator 4

Any rigged character can be imported, characterized, optimized in Character Creator, and exported to iClone and other tools for full-body animation (including expressions) - not limited to biped characters. YES! YES! YESSSSSSSSS!!!!! The more flexible you make this paradigm the higher the need for everyone to have. GREAT. So excited for these new innovations!
Some early ideas after seeing:
General (1) Make promo/tutorials in 1080p so that those without 4K can see the finer details ( I have a 4K, but know if I have @1080p the finer 4K details can't be seen), or make special 4K ones when it showcases something extra (2) RTX
iClone 8 (3) One video in this thread shows "Motion Direction Control" - can you make it so it gives you the ability to mirror-flip the motion L to R, R to L (4) some type of "Export Pass"? - Some motions in iClone were never created with an "Export Version", thus are stuck in iClone universe. Could we buy a general export license to pass through these motions to other render applications (Live Link, FBX export).
CC4 (5) Wrinkle Maps -don't limit to face, make for belly, shoulder, elbows, wrists, knees, thighs, chest, rear (6) Lite-mode? Some type of shortcut to load a Lite-version so users can more quickly craft less feature-intensive characters (7) Face-part morpher - let us apply a whole character morph to only a highlighted part of the body, ie - only adjust the ears of the CC3...excuse me...CC4 Default. Or only tweak the eyes, or the legs, but not the rest (8) Multi-Mesh - allow multi mesh character import/generation, would open door for HD Busts packs to be sold, and for the ultimate - a Meta Human Transformer!....And, an HD Bust creator, of course! (9) Allow CC4 to handle grooms in some fashion, even if only as a place-holder while in CC4 (10) Pack IDEAS : Robot builder, mech builder, centaur builder, Octopus/Spider maker, serpent/worm maker, 2+ headed avatar maker

Awesome, thank you for the update!
I spend most of my time in CC3, but the motion direction control alone makes me happy. I'm excited to check out iClone8.

And CC4... Any rigged (bipedal I'm assuming) Character!? That's going to be a game changer. I'm glad the wrinkle system is still coming and can't wait to see what else RL has up their sleeve. Thanks for the tease!

Agree 100%. Without that I’m out and going back to Maya. If there is no higher poly subdivided export option then I’m not interested.

Wow! Wow!! Wow!!!... So far so good, to additional of what people has been commenting on.. so, this is my own contribution
1. Props destroyer/Explosion: Help us introduce one cool plugin or if it's gonna be embedded in iclone itself, we need to destroy vehicles, houses, and other propsAs for example now, I'm doing one logo animation for myself today, I want certain props to explode as the bomb blast, but the props still stay in is place... That's not rich enough. I've attached the picture to this post. 2. Character execution: We also need to cut off our character head (behead) when execution is going on and make it to be animated in timeline with blood pumping out of his body 3. Cloth ON/OFF: Let our character be putting ON/OFF cloth without poking around the body
4. Character Eating/drinking: we want to see the food to be cutoff when character is eating bread or any kind of food. And also applicable to water, make it like as if na real life.
5. Breathing: make our character to be breathing in default mode without adding motion instead of eyes blinking only.
6. Character body details: We need our (a) character to be crying and tears rolling out (b)Vomit what he/she has chopped earlier (c) Water affecting the character body (d) bleeding blood
7. Drifting: there's no way we would be driving without drifting, help us embedded that if possible so that we can use it on any vehicle 8. Liquid simulation: Let water affect anything in the scene when it get touched. E.g, character walking in water, make his body and cloth wet. (b) We want to see how water affect the ground when it drop on the floor (c). Pouring water into bottle simulation or on floor
9. Clean/Dust: let character, fashion or any props get dirty and also clean when washed.
I just wanted to do some crazy stuff in the next coming year!

@Miranda (RL) Wow, that's insane... So, for Character Creator 4, are you implying that the mesh topology of a random imported character model will be retopologized to a CC4 mesh? I think this would have to happen in order for the facial expressions/morphs to work, right?

Thanks to all the team of Reallusion for these softwares who allow us to create projects or dreams easily. I'm waiting for all these features, and hope for many others! The hand key motion will be very usefull, it's an important part in animation and I also hope for CC4 that hands will looks more realistic. I wonder if that would be possible to get "collision" to hands available on objetcs and characters, not only for the ground?
I'm also very glad for the pivot reassignment. :w00t:
As a previous Poser Pro and Daz user, the only feature I'm still missing now is the ability to change the size of a character in the timeline. It's something very useful for a fantasy project, and actually I need to do so many tricks to get something acceptable. Anyway I love iClone now and can't go back with Poser or Daz :Wow:
What the others are requesting could be great features too, like the breathing system similar to the blinking one.
Anyway, thanks again Reallusion and sorry for my english ;)

There is still a lot of development work to be done before a finalised released date can be set. For now we can't give you a guarantee on the release date.

With so many new features packed in Blender 3.0 like the pose and asset library along with updated render engine this may be the first iClone version I skip, unless there's something in there to keep me here. CC4 is another story as it speeds up the production of characters.

It would be nice if we finally get some rigging tools for Iclone. No offense, but I think it's passed time that users were able to weight their own character clothing, or animals or what have you, in the Iclone landscape. What keeps me from adopting Iclone as more of a primary tool is that You can't basically rig anything for animation besides what Reallusion allows. For instance, If I create and rig a custom character and bring him in via 3dXchange, if I want to change their outfit later, I have to rig the garment in another application and then re-import the figure with their new clothes. Or if I want to rig a Dog or Cat or a snake for that matter --there's no way to do that. Akeytsu showed me that rigging isn't something to be afraid of, but if you can't rig then you're limited. It's as simple as that. I don't want to be limited by the software. One other thing I would like to put out there --I'm not real fond of the fact that it seems like Reallusion's spent more time supporting and developing for Unreal than they have for Iclone. I hope that changes with version 8 and they get back to developing for Iclone again.

One other thing I would like to put out there --I'm not real fond of the fact that it seems like Reallusion's spent more time supporting and developing for Unreal than they have for Iclone. I hope that changes with version 8 and they get back to developing for Iclone again.
It seems (to me at least)that Reallusion has decided to position itself as an asset to larger more wealthy & popular eco systems such as the gaming industry(Unreal engine) and the major 3DCC's like Blender and Autodesk.
Daz seems to attempting in the same with their free dedicated export plugin for those same external eco systems.
Poser has made Zero effort to be an asset to external eco systems which is why it is effectively a dead end program ,on full life support from selling Daz content at renderosity's fading marketplace
On the matter of custom rigging in iclone it is clear to me why this probably wont happen.
Iclone uses non traditional character animation system that is heavily based on the mixing of canned motion clips designed to work with native rigs that conform to a uniforn standard.
This (IMHO), is likely part of the reason why they moved over to shape projecting Daz genesis figure shapes & textures onto CC3 Avatars and away from the old FBX import via 3DXchange method for the Daz figures.
Even if Reallusion did expand the non standard rigging tools of 3DX to include more figure types such as custom quadripeds their existing Canned motion libraries are based on retargeting to bipeds that share the same uniform standard rigging.

I wouldn't mind using CC3. I really wouldn't IF I was able to animate other things with the same ease. That's the problem for me. There are no provisions for anything other than a biped male and female. If I want to have a bird, or a dog, or a horse, then I've got to go through with using that antiquated horse rig in the marketplace, or your S. O. L. In this day and age, it shouldn't be that way. I should be able to rig a scorpion, snake, bird, or whatever I can come up with without having to compromise because of what iclone limits you to. Since you can't anticipate what people might want to animate, then it's better to just give them a set of tools that allow you to rig what you need. I'd even settle for an updated Horse\quadruped rig along with a bird rig and snake rig but it seems like Reallusion thinks that people only want to work with rigged people. At least the physics toolbox allows us some rigging alternatives for mechanical things, but we need something similar for your own meshes. In like the past two years, it seems like the only real advancements we've seen have been the terrain plugin. I seriously don't have a lot of money to burn if I'm not getting the tools that are necessary to do more complete animations. Motion capture was great because it allowed us to do more. Now we need the same kind of thinking when it comes to rigging. Iclone's gone too long without it and it really hampers my creativity.

It says in the first post about CC4:
Any rigged character can be imported, characterized, optimized in Character Creator, and exported to iClone and other tools for full-body animation (including expressions) - not limited to biped characters. Moreover, create custom facial expression data for any character to create vivid facial expressions with personality. The long-awaited wrinkle system will be released for Character Creator 4, but the specific version has yet to be decided. So that seems to expand the possibilities of CC and iClone.
I personally have never missed that I can't rig in iClone as I have no interest in getting into that.

RL has no animals with visemes. DAZ has half a dozen of them. Dog, cat, horse, pig, lion, etc. Animals have been the choice of cartoon animators, with some exceptions, from way back. Mouse, duck, rabbit, etc. It would be nice to get them in easily. Yes, the prerecorded motions would need to be brought in, but that's easy enough.

My thoughts exactly. OP says “ iClone 8 and Character Creator 4 work-in-progress will be shown in the fourth quarter” which implies both have slipped into 2022?

The plan is to reveal more information and some new work in progress videos in Q4 2021. The actual release date has not yet been finalised but we hope to have more information to share soon.

You will not get any more precise date. In the past that has led to a lot of people complaining if it was past that date.

Although it is hard to wait, the fact that they may take longer than expected is reassuring I think. I'd rather have a tool that works, knowing they've spent time perfecting, than one full of bugs and unusable until a patch is released.
