Shadows inside a closed building

I'm new on iClose. I have the 5.5 version. I created a scene inside a completely closed building, without any window and I found that in this case it's impossible to get shadows on the ground. It seams that shadowing lights are intended only if coming from outside, even if the lighting inside the structure works quite correctly.

Is that through? Is that the way iClone works, or I'm wrong and there is a way to solve the problem?

thanks

Make sure you have "Self Cast Shadow" turned on and you'll probably want to use a "Spotlight" not necessarily a "Directional" light and of course that "Shadow" is selected.

I often select recieve shadows but not cast shadows on walls and ceilings too together with selfcast shadows on the light which may be ambient too in that case.
adding blur to smaller shadow maps is less taxing on your scene too.

If I start without a surrounding building I get the shadows as usual, if I then put, let's say, a surrounding cup and go inside, there are no more shadows.
The surrounding cup has shadows from outside.

A couple dumb thoughts and questions:

  • WHERE is your light located?
    • It is inside the building?
    • For sure?
  • Check out the "Opacity" setting on the light.  I ran across it recently, and thought it was a dumb concept, but maybe it will help your setting, in which case it's a smart concept, I guess.

Let us know if you figure it out.  If not, maybe some screen shots would help.

Thanks to Wendy, I first didn't completely understand her suggestion.

Now it works fine.

Many thanks
