I just recently started to get into facial animation. Before I did, I never really noticed how much 3D facial animation really assumes that you're going to be watching a character's eyes instead of their mouth .. Even with this incredibly well done example, if you strictly watch the mouth movements, the illusion is quickly broken by how overdone they are. I assume this is a limitation of the marker-less facial mocap system and not simply stylistic, but I could be wrong.

I totally agree with you. Eyes and mouth animation are really difficult and like everyone here, I learn, learn, work work on it (caused many headaches :) but as I said, it's not only the "reality" of animation who make the immersion, the story telling, the humor, the camera movements, the cohΓ©rence of your scenes your lighting and so much things . I made a big mistake before : searching the absolute perfection , I was stuck there looking for perfect animation and not moving forward, not finishing even a short. Now, I decided to move on, and for sure, these news tools will reinforce the realism so much sought after (or not), and if they will give less uncany valley, great . If you watch these new videos you could tell it's overdone...or not ...:) I think there's option to reduce the intensity and exageration . Fact is animation 'll stay animation, reality'll stay reality, searching the right equilibre and do what do you want to do and enjoy it is the most important for me; That said, thank you for this notice, it motivates us to look for improve again and again but never more stuck on it. Can't wait for this. I'll fight against desire to remake all the facials of my wip movie which is almost achieved. May be I even shall remake the facial animation of the fly :D. BTW, the sniper's target was : killing the fly, break the bottle without touching the apple
