The G6 Characters don't have clone cloths yet. They are non-human.
I would like to update the characters I made to take advantage of the softcloth look by adding a weight map. Unfortunately, the clothes either fall/stretch down to the center of the earth or they fly off the avatars doing their own thing. I turn on physics and check all the boxes for all the Upper and lowers as I see for the test G6 characters. I don't know if there is a physics change in the avatars that cannot be simulated in the G5 and lower characters - like a collision self mesh.
1. Is there a set of instruction for converting old custom material?
2. Are the developers or Reallusion offering a path to update their G5 characters by offering standard weight maps for each of their clone cloth sets?
3. Am I trying to do the impossible?
So far, the answers to those 3 questions seem to be
No! Never! Yes!
4. Is someone going to sell weight maps for all the clonecloths of iclone or the other developers with huge clonecloth assets?
5. Can a kind person make just one freebie of all the clone cloths needed for one G5 or G3 outfit?
Either a gown/blouse, Overocat, or pants/shirt
Only "Update weight map" seems to work. So I can't even apply the presets to an avatar's cloth (satin, leather, linen ...) How does that work

I read somewhere on this forum that Reallusion is working on G6 and they will come. Proberly as a free extension bonus of a few basic characters with some cloth options at first. That's how I understood it.

The characters in iClone 6 DO have self collision. There are some options to turn parts of collision on and off. It doesn't work fully in other cases so far.

No. You buy G5 & G3 clone cloth bases and clonecloth parts as yourself to not circumvent DRM content protection and you can't use a copy of THAT unless it's yours (for example from your iClone 5 or earlier content.) IF you get one (not being yours), it will ask you to buy it and make a "trial" picture on what you are looking at. However, some other freebies and affordable solutions exists and you can find them or buy them in the content store.

As an example, you can buy a single G3 base with upper something and lower something of your choice to start with or even download it all as trial content. Therefore you have it already. To edit the materials, I guess it's obvious to buy the part you want edited as I believe it's locked for edit in trial mode.

If I misunderstood you in something, missed something or made a information mistake here then someone else will help you out further. I also come back to my own comments later to learn something or just to see how it goes.

G3's work fine. Just turn on the physics collision shapes. G3's will be configured pretty well, so all you have to do is turn them on, and then set your cloth(s) to physics, and give it a weight map.

You should know that the only thing you need for physics to work are the collision shapes and the cloth. Any generation avatar with a cloth layer will work, and any non-standard or non-human will also work. So DAZ models, for instance. Or the animal avatars.

The G6, G5, and G3 avatars are ready as soon as you activate the shapes (shapes are preconfigured). All others you need to set the size, position, and rotation of your various shapes. It's pretty easy.

That is what I thought I was doing and its not working. I have purchased all the clone cloth sets for G3 and G5 and made some custom characters/clothes with them.
So I thought that all I needed to make them more soft/flexible with weight maps and it is not working. The clothes fall off of fly off. So this post was intended to see if the problem was that the cloths and avatars will never be compatible and will be unable to use the weightmaps or if I was applying the physics weight maps to G3/G5 incorrectly.
If so, then my appeal about a sample G3/G5 outfit/Avatar with Physics/weight map applied because I cannot seem to get it right. I have watched the softcloth tutorials several times.
Unfortunately the project example with the preset textures does not use avatars or clonecloths.
But if I need to make a swirling table cloth I can do that.
All the new developer G5/G6 clothes for sale seem to be new clone cloths not updated version using the old clone cloth sets with a weight map added.
I don't want to remake all my characters with G6 Avatars when they come out with the human version and clone cloths.

So has ANYONE taken a G3 or G5 character, then added a weight map to the upper/lower and have it behave like a G6 softcloth? If so sell a dressed avatar or give one away and I can use it as and example of how to do it.
I have tons of kimonos using the Gwynn overcoat that I would like to see move as softcloth.

So I am going to assume that this can't be done and stop wasting my time so that I can move on to the draped tablecloth which I also need.

You can do this ... watch at the Tutorial

@lpatten: You can check the G6 Heidi character to get an idea of a weight map.

In the soft-cloth function, when creating the weight map, there is an option to launch the UV map, which you will need as a reference for your weight map. A simple approach is to make a gradient that is dark at the top (which will pin the cloth) and light at the bottom.

There is a thread somewhere on the forum with a discussion about using soft-cloth.

Everything you need is included in iClone...

BTW, the G6 characters are non-standard, not non-human, fortunately.

EDIT: Here is the discussion I was referring to: https://forum.reallusion.com/Topic211370-385-1.aspx.

The missing piece here is "Collision Shapes". You need to turn them on.

Under the "Modify/Attribute" tab of your avatar is a button labeled "Collision Shape". Click this button to open the panel, and turn them on. They are pre-shaped for G3 and above. G2 or your own, you must configure them.

If you have an animation already on your avatar, use the menu "Modify/Collision Shape", and the animation will not be erased.

Hello Ipatter,
Softcloth with G 3 goes very well
The left avatar is equipped with Softcloth not the right one.
This should be a short demo. If you closer bechäftigt so
you get the settings back much better.
You have to play with the Wigthmaps or for each avatar under circumstances halt
Create a self.
With G 5 avatars un d DAZ avatars it works the same way.

Greetings from Germany

THANKS A LOT You guys.
It works for G3 and G5 Characters.
At first I could not find "Collision Shapes"
In The MODIFY Panel do the following.
1. When you select the Avatar it is one of the items under Avatar "ATTRIBUTES".
There is a "Collision on/off" check box. Turn it on.
The other check boxes erase any motions.

2. Then Select the PHYSX
a. Check the "Activate Physics" Box
b. Click the Edit Weight Map and add a weight map.

To get a better look use the settings for one of the default Heidis for the following:
c. Change the Collision Settings
Soft Vs Rigid Collision Margin = 2.0
Self Collision Margin = 1.5
d. Change the Wind Settings
FORCE - Global Axis Z = 5

Some of the values keep changing back to the default though.
