Does anyone know whether it's possible to export a CT .avi file with an alpha channel?  It seems that although CT can handle alpha channels internally, when it comes to media export the codec strips out any alpha information.  I am trying to export a CT sequence into Flash CS3 with a transparent background.  It works fine if I export/import as a .tga sequence, but not as an embedded .avi video.

Choose the Intel Indeo Video 4.5 codec to export an avi with alpha transparency. There is supposed to be a HuffyUV codec and a supposedly higher quality lossless codec named Lagarith that does the same but I don't have either installed on this machine to try it - yet. I think I'll go get them while I'm thinking of it. I tried the Indeo 4.5 codec yesterday on a project and it worked great when working with the avi output from CT5 beta in Premiere Elements 3.0.

Update:
I just tried 4 codecs with CT Media Studio 4.6. Indeo 4.5 and 5.1 work to output alpha transparency - be sure to set that up in the configuration settings during the save of the avi file.

Then I tried HuffyUV 2.1.1 and Lagarith 1.3.14.0 and both work really well. Here too you need to have the settings correct when saving the avi to use alpha transparency/RGBA, whatever the particular codec configuration setting uses to describe this feature.

I hope this info helps someone in the future even if the original question was posted a month ago.

Avi and transparency with Crazy Talk 5 only seems to work with sequential Targas.

Tried all the other exports and only that seems to work.  Any one at Reallusion have any ideas?

Thanks!

I'm interested in the answer to this question as well.

For the sequenced TGAs are you using virtualdub or...?...to assemble and then, what codec are you using - an avi codec?

Thanks,

dh
