My biggest complaint is the wide price difference. From 49 to 149 for the CT5 pro version. I tried CrazyTalk 4, then got iClone 2.5 standard. That was a disappointment because there was no timeline, and features that I thought was in the iClone standard. So when CT5 came out I tried it. Since I am using for SecondLife animation, I thought I would hold off a bit, because of the price, and previous disappointment. But - Secondlife now added lipsynch. So CT5 would not have the value that justifies the price.


Now because iClone is sitting idle most of the time now.


Does anyone else think the price difference is too high? Or am I just cheap?


No- I am not a student, or newbie to 3D.
Yes - I make enough money to buy it.

I think the reason that the price difference seems large is because Crazytalk 5 is priced very competitively for the more casual user to get into Crazytalk.

Crazytalk 5 Pro is just as the name implies, a professional version for the more serious user and includes the advanced features that many casual users don't need, nor want to pay for and that is why it is priced as it is.

If there was to be a smaller price difference between the two versions it would almost certainly mean that the standard version would go up rather than the Pro version coming down and that would make many casual users unhappy for sure.

Personally, I find the pricing of CrazyTalk & iClone to be very reasonable. CrazyTalk in particular is a great price, because there is little or no learning curve.

Granted, I bought the Studio versions of both a few years ago and the upgrades are cheap, so I'm not feeling the pinch. Most of the time, I wish the content packs were cheaper, but there's always a "give and take" in every aspect of life. Pay a little extra for a great program. Get the upgrade at a great price. But pay a little more for the add-on content packs... Plus the fact that whatever you buy as a add-on is "plug-n-play"...

I've paid a WHOLE LOT MORE for some other animation programs that are still collecting dust and I still can't figure them out :angry:, so I'm inclined to say bite the bullet, pay for the premium package and enjoy the ride. RL will take care of you with upgrades. :cool:

I totally agree with mrjrm. When you consider what you get for your money - the hours (potentially years), of fun - the knowledge you collect - the contacts and friends you 'i'-meet, these programmes are cheap. The upgrades are also very fair and reasonable.
The new wave of add on packs are also a boon to people who like myself who are 'newbies' at this medium and have yet to get to grips with designing new characters, props, etc.
