Hello, how are you all going ? :-)

So this is my problem- last month I bought a new plug in microphone with a cord so that I could record myself talking in the "record" bit (where you press the red record button) in the crazytalk 6 script bit. Last month it worked perfectly and I could hear my own voice crystal clear when I played back to myslef what I had recorded which was my own voice talking. But today, I tried to record my voice again, but this time, all I can hear when I play it back to listen to it is static. All I can hear is heaps of static with my tiny little voice sounding like a far away tiny mouse in the background. My voice sounds really soft and barely audible and all I can hear is static, it sounds like I am stuck in a wind storm or a tornado. I was thinking of making my character pretened that it is stuck in a windstorm just so that it would sound normal, but I thought "well I can't do that forever. :-) I cant say to my readers forever "Hi readers, well today I am coming to you live from the middle of a wind storm, can you hear the biting wind outside, brrr it's cold! :-) So I guess I had better not be lazy, and I should try my best to fix this problem now. I have tried standing far away from my computer in case it is the static from the computer engine whirring but that didn't help.

If it didn;t work out perfectly last time, I would have blamed it on the micropjone and said to myself "damn cheap microphone, I got ripped off big time with this thing, and hurled it out the back door" :-) BUt I know that it did work perfectlty last time, so something else needs fixing. Do you think you could give a little more info? Have you tried when going to record you get the dialogue box coming up and there is a drop down menu for Input device. You may have to choose your microphone from a list. I had a problem like this at work. We had Apple's with bootcamp on them but the sound card in the apples were not up to the task so we had to buy dongles to go inthe back of the macs. This fixed the problem. Another thought are your drivers.

I suppose others with a more technical background and similar problems will come in and give you more advice.

Have you tried your mike just with Windows Sound Recorder (All Programs > Accessories > Sound Recorder).

I'm guessing you have accidentally changed your settings somewhere and it may something as simple as the recording level. Right click on the Loudspeaker icon in the system tray and check Recording devices.

Without more info - that's all I can offer.

Hello to you all, and I wanted to say a very big thank you to everyone who answered my question and helped me :-)  I tried what youse both said, and I am going to record myself again now and see if it works. I clicked on what you both said to click on, thanks heaps for that :-)

I clicked here, I clicked there, I clicked absolutely everywhere. Then I hit gold! When I double clicked on the loud speaker icon in the system tray,  a box popped up with a few options in it, and I clicked on the option that said "microphone noise supression- to reduce the static background noise when recording" Was I ever glad to see those words! Talk about seeing the exact words that you wanted to see! It's almost worth popping open the ol' champahne bottle for. My ship has come in! Thank you so very much to you both, I do appreciate it a lot. I send you both a big Aussie hug from the other side of the world in Australia :-)

Oh yeah, I guess I better go and see if it worked now hey, before I get too excited  and shout a big yahhooo. I will let y'all know how goes. Thanks heaps once again for your help :-)

Oh how I love you all!! It worked!!! :-) Thank you so very much for all your help, I really appreciate it and so does the talking bear that I made with my microphone. All your advice really saved the day, and I have cancelled the scheduled nervous breakdown over the issue

Before that I was like that old saying goes "No more crisises this week, I'm fully booked" and now I am free :-) Thanks heaps dudes
