Somewhere I once saw an explanation of how to save computing power by using a 2D picture of a 3D scene. The 2D picture could be used as a background. Part of the advice was to "render the scene as an image." I'm a newbie and I don't understand how to do this. If anyone could give me more details about the whole process I would really appreciate it.

once your scene is set up, just click on export and choose image and export as jpg or bmp

then starting with a new project, click on stage, click on 2D background, and on the right nav panel, click on the open file icon and navigate to the image (or video) you just saved

make sure you unclick the 'Active' box on the right panel

(However a very minor comment is that when I unclicked the "Active" box, as you recommended, the image disappeared. It seems that I should not touch the "Active" box and it seems that I should just leave it checked.)
But like I said, I'm very happy with the result!
