Is there a way to set the default position for the character to be over to one side instead of centered in the frame? I know that i can have dead air at the start of the clip, and use that time to adjust the camera position, then edit out the first few seconds of the timeline. But I would like my character to remain over at the side of the camera-shot during stand-by mode as well.

If you want the character to remain on one side throughout the video including standby then it is best to crop or edit the original image so that the character begins at the side when you create the project.
