I should also add that a plus side to moving the Shared Templates folder from the C: drive is that it may very well cure the dragging and dropping problem as UAC will not prevent it any longer as its not in a system folder.

Hi Pete,

You are a gem!

Everything working perfectly now.

Yes I had Vista.

And by following the instructions and changing the registry value (with moving the necessary folders) it now works like a charm.

I am new to iClone but not new to graphics and animation. Have about 3000 alpha channel videos and a few thousand background clips that I both made and bought over the years.

The new powers of iClone 4 now makes this really usable for me, including the new face generation capacities. I tried that out and it is truly much better. At least personally, I am finding it easier to use than trying to input a photo in poser's face room.

Cheers.

Ankzrdude, thanks for the thanks:), but you are the best right now, irrespective of whether I say that or not. I really admire you, not only because you produce good content, but because you continuously focus on using iClone for the purpose it was produced - to create animations. Watch your animations at my new blog at www.clonerscafe.com/blog, you might find the quality of broadcast to your liking. I really cleaned the script. Most sites that pull and display shared data from other sites suffer a loss in transmission and broadcast. Here you would find the sharing lossless.

Regards

Surajit

Hi Pater... Simply why one would need to change the default folder internally in the software. I understand fully the C drive mayhem that occurs when full... I can only imagine that the iClone application itself, should the user import their videos into IT in C drive for viewing in the video tab, is required for such use and the user therefore wishes to accumulate a library accessible THROUGH iClone from that tab but NOT by stuffing up C and rather than importing them from external drives.
Sorry, for a while I couldnt understand either....... why not simply import from external drives anyway.
But on this basis it makes sense.

Hi Neil,

When you install iClone4 the default library of videos that shows up in Content Manager defaults to the C: drive, even though you may have installed iClone4 to the D: drive. For some with limited free space this can be a problem.

Actually getting videos into iClone4 isn't reliant on using Content Manager as you can Drag and Drop (not working for some) and also double click the Diffuse icon in the Modify Panel to open videos or images for props etc.

The fix I offered was just for those who want to build up a nice library of videos that show up in Content Manager, but don't want to fill up all the free space on their main C: drive.

Mr. Armstrong,

My apologies for not replying to your comment. It was terribly impolite of me, but it was an oversight. I see that you see my problem now, and thanks for your interest. I love your work and do follow them:)

Regards

Surajit

PS: tried out quicktime (mov), flv, and mp4 in addition to wmv, mpeg, and avi. iClone 4 is accepting all without a hitch. Now this is really getting to be a movie machine.

aussienat2000,

I do not know your system configuration but this is what I have and what I have done.

Windows vista + seagate freeagent pro external hard drive. Somehow, this harddrive Freeagent Pro from Seagate is recognized as a primary drive by vista, I do not know whether it is the same for other external drives, as I do not have any experience with any other.

Using vista's default drive management facility I created a separate partition in my external hard drive, and gave it a name, so it became a separate drive from the rest. Then I formatted the drive to FAT32 though the rest of my drives including the rest of the external drives are NTFS.

Installed iclone4 in that drive, and reinstalled all my previous purchased content by redownloading and reinstalling. So all my data including custom data as well as the software is in external drive. iClone4 is the only software to which I have dedicated a whole drive, though I have other software that are ten times costly. For me iClone4 deserves the respect.

By default, all the base content and any purchased content packs are installed into the same location as iClone itself. If you installed to the C: drive then so will the content.

Your own custom content that you have created yourself will be saved in the location you chose when you installed iClone. Again this defaults to C: if you don't change anything.

Unless you are confident in editing the system registry, you may well be better off uninstalling iClone4 and installing again on a new drive that has more free space. You can then copy over your content from the C: drive to the new drive afterwards.

Hi,

This is the exact problem why I made this post in the first place, and Peter's suggestions, also in this thread, got it solved for me.

So, read the thread from the beginning and especially what Peter has written.
