As I said, "Habit." It's gotten so ingrained from work, my fingers hit the keys as I get up from the chair.
Plus there were plenty of times at home I needed to keep kids of various ages off my computer, usually because they were to young to know what they were doing, but sometimes because they did know what they were doing. (Don't you hate it when your preferences get changed? Or your 14-year old goes to a virus and malware infected gaming site? Yeah, sometimes it was just easier to lock my screen, even at home. An ounce of prevention...)
On a related note, it might as well let your screen go into screensaver mode, when it's rendering.

Hey, if it's one of those "flip this bit" sort of things, why not ask? You never know if it's a simple option or weeks of work to make the change. I was very good at making insightful "order of magnitude" estimates with the enterprise-level software I used to work with, but in this case I really have no clue.
