Thanks to the RL team. I filed a bug report on the image sequence crash asking that it be given a high priority. Yay, fixed now.
(I also used my bug report as a shameless excuse to express my admiration for Reallusion's great products and employees.)

Ugh, this news will make me wait until all the "bugs" get fixed in Iclone 5 before writing a product review about it. Probably more bugs will be discovered soon. I believe it was because this version of Iclone was rushed into the market!

There is only one thing more predictable than users who rudely demand software to be released before all the bugs are fixed: users who rudely complain that a few minor bugs should have fixed before the software was released. :hehe:

For those interested:
Complaints are taken down the Hall and to the right. :D
So far it appears to fix the issue, at least with Jane who was the test model.
G2 Jane with Interim Update to Mesh + Skin Fix using Self Illumination - Demo Only
Seems to correct the elbow issue. No real effort applied to the leg joints error, but if there is an issue found later, I will surely post it.
Skin textures in iClone5 are shown as being improved for some of the older character bases using Self-Illumination set to 100% application level.
Motion Set used are defaults for the new G5 Gwynne, the Motion Layer edits are generally necessary for motions that are built for other meshes. This is normal expected behavior, as the bone sets and meshes are frequently sized somewhat differently.

I have to say that even with the bugs I have done more of the kind of animations I want to do in aa few days with Iclone 5 than in 2 months with 4 .... Now if they fixed the particle and toon shader problem I would have finished 1 anim already ....

And, yeah, great job, RL team! Hmmm...................Weeeellll - IMO, mjordy is partly right, in that Software Devolopers who have little or no competition eg; Microsoft have Public Beta Tests, before the Product is Released. Whereas those Software Developers who do have competition, can't divulge "Secret" information, for good Marketing reasons. Although there have been cases where Patches have been Publicly Beta Tested, before release. I, like many others, have Consumer Programs that can be used in a Professional capacity. The difference between Consumer & Professioinsal Programs, apart from initially being Developed for their intended use, is the increased price for Professional Programs. That increase price includes more reliabilty & technical support. To get that reliabilty, Reallusion would need to Develop iClone with a target sales price in the region of say £500.

Peter all the sudden with this patch I'm not seeing "self cast shadows" or any Post Effects working or Atmosphere effects like HDR, AO... I've re-booted with no change. Is there a way to return to the original without reinstalling ? mp

Is there a way to return to the original without reinstalling ? mpHi Mark Sorry to hear you have encountered problems. There isn't a way to uninstall just the update I'm afraid. I'm not able to reproduce the problems you are having so it doesn't appear to be a general problem with the update at this time. Is this happening to any one else after installing the update? If you continue to have these issues and a reinstallation doesn't help then please contact the Tech Support department using the link below. They should be able to help you get this resolved quickly. https://www.reallusion.com/CustomerSupport/User/QForm.aspx

colour (10/1/2011) The difference between Consumer & Professioinsal Programs, apart from initially being Developed for their intended use, is the increased price for Professional Programs. That increase price includes more reliabilty & technical support. To get that reliabilty, Reallusion would need to Develop iClone with a target sales price in the region of say £500. There was a beta test period for iClone, which included some power users who very now and then were kind enough to divulge some of the new features. As to price and Profesional versus Consumer: I work with certain Adobe products in my day job and they certainly have the pricetag of being professional, but they have very poor support. It is by the grace of certain power users who are kind enough to help others that you get any assistance at all. My exception was with mjordy's comment "that the product was rushed out"--that was simply simplistic. All graphics-related programs have to deal with the fact that there are a thousand different variations of hardware and software environments. It is impossible to take all of those into account. Some programs solve this by stipulating a very specific hardware and software environment (3DS Max for example), but that is not very realistic for a product like iClone.

animagic (10/8/2011)My exception was withmjordy's comment "that the product was rushed out"--that was simply simplistic.
My own feeling is you are being much too kind: "the product was rushed out" is easily disproved as a total mistake.
Don't any of you recall how many months ago iClone 5 was originally planned for release?
It's likely that a great many cool features--many features we had been requesting, as well as many features we didn't even know would be possible--we already mostly ready for the market.
The historical record shows that Reallusion held the product back for months and months, trying to iron out the reliability to the high standard it is today.

This is my experience with Adobe, too.
What I would add is that although Adobe technology tends to be anywhere from good to excellent, their user-interface design is wretched: piss-poor, if you will. Their professional products are over-engineered to a laughable degree, bristling with enough bells and whistles to run the Fukushima reactor (and we know how that turned out).
If Adobe is completely brain-dead on the concepts of tools that remember their settings, it's even worse on the concept of what routine workflows are like (which tasks occupy more than 75% of one's time and attention, and how they connect in a pipeline).
Reallusion is the most opposite of that I can possibly imagine: hiding unnecessary details and automating the most complex task I can imagine for a computer user--animating characters in a 3D environment.
The poster obviously understands what it's like to actually work with Adobe tools just as poorly as he understands what it's like to accomplish something with Reallusion tools.
By the way, I was recently driven away from Adobe's audio suite by its outrageous over-engineering and cluelessness, right into the arms of Audacity, which produced my tutorial voice-overs like a dream. Professional software, my @!
