I'm a new user to iClone and wanted to know if iClone 5 will be available for Mac. The software looks awesome, and I will purchase Windows 7 and run it under BootCamp if I have to, but I just want to know if it will work or not to prepare for the launch.

Thanks!

Future plans for iClone include a native Mac version but for iClone5 you should be able to run it using Bootcamp as long as you have a powerful enough graphics card.

Hi Peter. I'm very interested in iClone for the Mac but I'm curious if you a ballpark estimate on it's release?

It is certainly planned for the future but I don't have a time frame yet unfortunately.

Further to the native Mac iClone discussion. I just spoke with an individual at Reallusion's San Jose office and he rather bluntly told me there are no plans for a Mac iClone in 2012. He wasn't any help beyond that and didn't seem at all interested in my inquiry. I can only assume Reallusion doesn't have any interest in the Mac market so don't hold your breath waiting for these guys to release anything for Apple users.

Hi Peter and all.

Can you tell me exactly what the requirements for the graphics card are on Mac? My card is the ATY,RadeonX1600.
Here are my system specs. Not the most recent, but I'm hoping I don't have to buy a new computer to run iClone 5. Thanks.

Model Name:   MacBook Pro
Model Identifier:   MacBookPro2,2
Processor Name:   Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed:   2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors:   1
Total Number Of Cores:   2
L2 Cache:   4 MB
Memory:   2 GB
Bus Speed:   667 MHz

As you see, it will run, but not look any good.

Welcome to the Forum:)

Without going into all of the reasons why at this point, I'm afraid that your PC's Hardware Spec's are insufficient for Running iC5, which has a high learning curve anyway & you would be frustrated by attempting to learn it, using that PC.

The PC Hardware Spec in my Signature is what you should be aiming for, but with an i7 2600 CPU

Hi,

I have a related question. I have a Macbook Pro with 8 gigabites of memory. I'm running OS Lion and Bootcamp with Windows 7. I installed Iclone5 and Xchange5, but when I start Iclone, I get an error message that says the program stopped running. When I start Xchange5, I get a message that says API can't run. I set my Windows graphics to 1024x780 and 32 bit color. Does anyone have any ideas about what might be wrong? Do I need to possibly play around with the virtual memory settings? I'm able to run Photoshop cs4 and Corel DrawX5 without any problems, so I don't understand why Iclone5 won't work.

Thank you,

William

Don't hold your breath over Bootcamp avantegardewebwpt.

It's ok if you want to use low-end PC applications, but what Mac don't tell you...is that it's utter sh*t for anything else.

I tried to run Ipi motion tracking software in Bootcamp, but ended up having to buy a high-end PC i7 laptop, before I lost anymore hair!

I tried installing on my Mac first, using Parallels, but Iclone can't run of virtual desktops yet. Did give me a reason to finally fix the power supply on my PC!

It seems Reallusion does not care about Apple users since they just ignore us even if we try to install our iClones in Windows running in Mac. I am running i7 with 32GRam on Mac with windows 7 ultimate but all iClone5.4 as well as iClone5.5 and 3dXchange 5.5 shows a message "Reallusion program does not support virtual machine installation" . This is totally wrong for Reallusion to even block us from running our iClones in our MACs. I am totally not happy about Reallusion as their applications are good and powerful. Now I am forced to return back to my PC in order to use iClone and 3dXchange.

Well, I'm running iClone happily on my mac pro under bootcamp with 32Gb RAM and a Radeon HD2600 XT graphics card and it performs just fine.

I'm not using any super funky lighting effects and nor am I aiming for any kind of photorealism.
Have got quite a few avatars in certain scenes too and all seems well.

Also run blender, sketchup, photoshop at the same time so no real issues here.

Would ultimately love to run Clone native obviously, but hey, if you're trying to tell a story, just be creative and the world will be yours. Or something.

Well, Apple doesn't allow me to run Mac software on my PC, so what is exactly your complaint? The required specifications for running iClone are clear enough.

Running applications in a VM (virtual machine) environment can be tricky, especially if you need direct access to hardware such as full graphics card capabilities, sound cards, or add-on PCI cards.

It's one thing to run Windows, another to fully leverage your system.  Suppose you had two or three VMs running at the same time.  How much of your graphics RAM should each application (and OS) get?

It opens up a whole new world of complexity that would be a nightmare to support.

Now, if they wanted to make a "native Mac" version, that'd be another story, and I guess it comes down to being a business decision.  Never hurts to ask, though.

EDIT: I thought I remembered Peter (RL) mentioning a native Mac iClone version being planned, but it seems I'm mistaken. Maybe iClone 6 as it uses a common platform for the GUI.

+1 for native Mac support

That would be great

hi MecdotNet,

i would also love to have a native mac version....
but in the meantime ..... you can run iClone in Parallels or VMware Fusion.....
but you must install it in BootCamp first.....

you only get that message if you try to install it in a VM ... you can't do that ..
but you can run it in a VM , if you just install it direcctly into BootCamp / Windows first.

i only have 16g ram.... and i allow 8g for Parallels and it does just fine...
i haven't done much yet .... but just throwing a few minutes of lipsinc and some imotions at
that 4 piece virtual iClone band.... it did fine .
that's 2 guitarist avatars and a drummer playing instruments and i one vocalist avatar lipsincing one of my songs..... and it didn't choke or hesitate.

i stopped playing with it because i just can't stand to be in the Windows environment...
i am really hoping for a native mac iClone6
but you can use it in a VM if you want too... just install it in BC/Windows first...
then reboot into OS X.
by the way ... it's just the Program itself that won't install into a VM .... all the packs and templates and add-ons etc, can all install right in the VM.

hope this helps ...
cheers.
