I am totally new to all of this so please be patient with me. Thanks.

I have imported a picture into crazy talk 6 with 3 guys talking the middle character is front on view and the guy on each side is side view only.

No problem lining up the facial points for the front view but guys standing sidewise creating a problem. When I calibrate them the lips move ok but face left face right creates some rather strange effects.

Is it wise only to use models with head frontal view only?

You will get best results if you use a front facing image but you should also be able to get accepetable results with a face turned to up to 45 degrees. Past that it will be very difficult to get decent results.

One thing to make sure you setup correctly is Face Orientation. This is important if you want to get realistic facial animation. You can see how you set this up below.
