Teaser Posted on www.pinheadhq.com Welcome page. Looks like the Pinhead Projects Committee are coming-up with something interesting again. But what? Well - It's Project 8. Been going for 6 years now. Not bad, when you consider that the Projects are organised by a small team of 5 amateurs in their free time. Probably the longest-running Community Video Editing, per se, Project run by Amateurs on the Net. But they need our continued support.:) All-comers welcome: iCloners & CrazyTalkers;). Especially those of you who would like to complete an iClone animated Storyline Video, but don't know where to start. Well - Here's your chance to join-in a Community Project with others, using the same central Character "Pinhead" & Project Theme, when it's announced. So - Watch this space;).

Because there has been a large increase in Iclone users in the last while, I wanted to explain a little about the Pinhead projects.
The projects originated in 2006 with my 2D video friends. The original concept was for participants to create a video about where they live but to add a common element, Pinhead was created and was to appear in each person's video. We had participation from all over the world and as we made so many friends and it was so much fun to animate this character, the projects continued but became more story oriented. In my quest for ways to animate Pinhead, I discovered Crazy Talk first, followed by Iclone shortly after. A few years ago, we added a 3D division to our projects and expanded into the Iclone world. Our current project is actually our 8th since the start. The main purpose of the projects is to have fun - it's not meant to be highly competitive and for anyone starting out, this is a fun way to experiment with the software. The current story is based on a theme simillar to "Back to the Future" in that Pinhead has been accidentally thrust into another time but the opening ends at the point where he vanishes so the challenge is to create a story about Pinhead's adventure in whatever time he has ended up in and the only stipulation is it must take place either 50 years into the future or 50 years in the past. The Pinhead character can be downloaded on the website as an iAvatar. He was based on default so there are no issues. His voice for some time has been a canned voice, however, you are welcome to use your own voice or voice actor as well. Additionally, if anyone needs lines generated, I can do that for you if you send me a PM. If you have any questions about the project, please feel free to post them here. As many others can attest from the past, creating a story with Pinhead can be great fun, and we all delight in each new adventure. I do hope some of you will participate. We're sorry if we are not as polished as some of the other competitions around here, but our goal is to learn and have fun. Complete history and details on the projects are available at www.pinheadhq.com We still have a 2D Division, as well as a 3D Division. Crazy Talk Animator videos would be considered 2D. Prize for the best 2D video is "Crazy Talk Animator Pro". Prize for the best 3D video is "A Mystery Prize from Avid" which will be announced soon. Video opener is in previous post - The video is on our website, however to make it easier for you all to watch, I've posted it on Clone Clips and embedded it on the forum. Thanks for listening. :)

Back in a time when Men were Men & Wimmin were Wimmin;)

As a new CTA user (and learner), I can thoroughly recommend these Pinhead projects as a fun way to learn.
I have participated in several Pinhead projects in the past, and, each time, have been learning to use some new software. It is said that the best way to learn is to get your hands dirty, and Pinhead gives you just that opportunity without the pressure of deadlines or the need to get it exactly right first time.
So, whether you are a beginner or a pro, into 2D or 3D, I urge you to give Pinhead a try. It's fun, you'll learn the software easily, and the more participants there are, the greater the pleasure watching the results.
Don't be shy. Give it a go:)

I'm looking forward to entering and I'm working on upgrading my skills by trying to create most of the props. There is one question, I've upgraded to Windows 7 and the only voice I have is "Anna". Does anyone have a solution to installing other voices??????

Pinhead uses "Lee", an Australian voice which is about $49.95 from what I can find. I bought him at least 3 years ago or more. If you need some lines, just email me and I'll do them for you. I do it for people all the time and it's no bother. Otherwise, get a live actor to do the voice for you - that's fine also. BTW - Lee would not work when I upgraded to Windows 7. I had to contact NextUp to get a new install file.

His facial expressions were the icing on the cake. This one's up there with Joe's (The Master of all 2D Animators) 2D Clip "I Pinhead". Hopefully, there's going to be strong competition between the Experts;) For the rest of us - It's the participation that counts. If you're a "Newbie" Google "Google Images" to fit a Storyline. Import those as 2D Backgrounds. Import Pinhead (& other Character(s)?). Select Template Animations. Write Pinhead voice Scripts & send to Alley, who'll return as Pinhead's own WAV PCM Voice Files, which you can Import into Pinhead's Facial Animation. That's it. You've just made your first iClone Storyline. Well done. Look forward to watching it;)

As far as I'm aware, Joe's a complete Amateur & has no background relating to Animation, Graphic Arts et al. "Pinhead Goes For a Drive" by Ahroo, was done in Claymation . IMO, you'll never see anything like the Pinhead Collaboration Projects anywhere. Been going since 2006 & presented by a tiny team of Amateurs living thousands of miles apart. The whole concept should be up there on the World Stage with a Golden Globe Award, IMO. I'm honoured to have been & continue to be, a very Amateurish participant in such talented company.

Colour - thank you for keeping everyone up to date and your continued enthusiasm on the Pinhead projects. You are a big part of the reason I continue to remain passionate about the little guy. I can announce what the prize for the best 3D video will be now. It's a brand new video editing program by "Avid" called Avid Studio Ultimate which is being released this month and it is not Pinnacle Studio - it's something brand new. The problem with Pinnacle Studio (even tho I love and bought the latest version - Pinnacle Studio 15)- is that it only had one overlay track and one text overlay track. It's a very stable and easy to use video editing program, but sometimes when editing iClone movies, you need more tracks for sound effects, etc. Well Avid Studio Ultimate is the answer as it has unlimited tracks or if not unlimited, it has a lot - :). And it comes with so many special effects that are all keyframeable such as particles and lights and tooning and titling. These are special effects by Magic Bullit and Knoll Light Factory, etc. that otherwisewould cost a fortune if bought separately. Not to mention it is great for editing home video in HD and burns great DVDs. And it supports smartsound with a plugin. Here is a link for more info. Avid Studio The value of the prize is $169 U.S. Good Luck to all.

Hi All,
I have decided to enter the Pin Head competition with what will essentially be my first iClone movie!
My movie is called….wait for it….
The Pin Head Paradox
The good news is that I have already started. Why am I announcing my participation aside from supporting Pin Head? Because a) I will invariably need people’s help b) I may need colour’s offer of a stick to keep me moving at some point :)
Here’s where I am up to:
Plot – 100% in my head (many sleepless nights thanks to mind-bending-time-paradox issues), 30% completed in Celtx Props – 100% I have purchased all that I need on Marketplace…and created the ‘special secret main time-travel related prop that requires special filming techniques’ Stages/Sets – 50% in iClone – I tend to go into too much detail with these, so need to be careful here Sound Effects – 0% - I know what I want, haven’t found/purchased anything yet though. I have been gathering links to music/sound effect sites from this forum. Voice – 0% - This is the bit that worries me the most. I have not tried adding voice to actors in iClone, nor have I generated voices or have access to voice actors. I may ask for voice actor support/advice for this. Actor expressions – I haven’t used these yet either…hope I can get Pin Head even 50% as realistic as Mark’s amazing video.
Plus there are probably more considerations that I haven’t taken into account!
OK, that should be enough pressure on myself for now…however I really want to finish this project, so break out those sticks and/or carrots!

Hi, 3D
Welcome to the Pinhead project.
Sounds like you are well on the way with your plans already. You will find that Pinhead is an excellent way to learn new techniques etc, as there is no pressure to get it exactly right. Previous Pinhead entries have ranged from the ultra-simple 2D through to some very complex 3D clips. But no-one is really judging the standard of production, but more the storyline, and how it is put across.
As far as voices are concerned, you can do a lot using one or two voices modified in Audacity (free!), or Screaming Bee's MorphVox. I have used both successfully to disguise my own voice! If you want to use Pinhead's monotone voice as used in so many previous Pinhead clips, Colour and I have the software to transcribe your script and send it back as either MP3 or .wav files.
I know Colour is rather busy on his entry, so if you need Pinhead's voice when you have a script, let me know and I'll do it for you.

Thanks Colour,
You probably experience more server errors than others because you are always on the forum lol
Here is my chance to trade my IT knowledge for people's future artistic knowledge. :D
My advice for anyone using web forms to directly type in forum submissions is never do it that way! There are any number of ways that you could lose your work, the server might go down or your browser might crash. Even your PC can conspire against you and bomb out. I always, always create posts offline in a word document. I have gotten into the habit of pressing Ctrl-S several times a minute to save my work and it just comes naturally now, so I never lose more than a minute or so of work. Once your post is ready, simply copy and paste your post into the web form.
As you can probably guess, I am fairly anal when it comes to backing up data. I have a Windows Home Server that backs up every night and periodic offline HDD’s backups that are geographically dispersed. This makes sure all my iClone data and installation is backed up and never more than 30min away from being restored if disaster strikes.

Thanks RogRead,
Thanks for your offer!
What software was used to create the original Pin Head voice (like the one in the current time-travel promotion video)?
I read another post in this thread about Screaming Bee’s MorphVox. I downloaded it and only tried it briefly, but I could still hear my own voice in it (and my Aussie accent!). Perhaps I didn’t give it enough time, I may try again when I am up to doing the voices.
I also have downloaded TextAloud and NextUp but haven’t tried them yet.

I also have downloaded TextAloud and NextUp but haven’t tried them yet. Download Scansoft's Australian;) Voice: LEE. Then you've got Pinhead's voice. But you can't alter the pitch. Tip for using Textaloud: 1) Use Capital letters at beginning of words, for emphasis 2) Use several spaces, to prevent words slurring into the next one. 3) Use full stops instead of commas & question marks, to add emphasis. Eg; Instead of typing: " I would have gone on my scooter, but Dave still hasn't returned it", type; "I would have gone on my scooter. But Dave still hasn't returned it" ADDED - Either I or Alley (Roger doesn't use iClone), will Post a quick simple Facial expression &n Voice lipsync step by step Tutorial at the appropriate time.

3D,
If you want help with extra voices, PM me, and I'll see what I can do for you. I have MorphVox and Audacity, so can morph my voice to suit your requirements if necessary.
You will also find that the folks on Video Friends Forum are more than willing to help. If you haven't already been there, it's well worth a visit:)

1st week in May (I think), Mark. Although the Committee usually extend it, 'cos there's usually a bums-rush to get our projects completed in time.;) Only just started re-texturing iClone supplied Scene props here from wood to old plaster walls & old tiled roofs, to make them more realistic. A new experience for me, in the iC learning curve. Doing a Pinhead Project, with a deadline, forces us less experienced Users into learning something new;) So, still plenty of time for the un-decided to join-in:)

I've had some family business going on, but I still hope to make the deadline. An extension would be great... I've been looking for every-day British cars from the fifties (Hillmans, Morrises, etc.) for the colour locale, but haven't been very successful. It seems everyone models cars they can't own... There's TurboSquid, but that's expensive both polygon and moneywise. Anyway, I started to do some modeling in Hexagon. It doesn't look too bad from a distance, but it's slow going!

Wow - Pin Head has caused a cheeky stir in the issues thread - I blame him as I was moving him around the scene at the time ;)
Thank you again for all the offers of help with the voices. I decided to buy TextAloud and the great Aussie accented voice of Pin Head (Lee). There were a couple of good discounts on some other voices when purchased with the software, so I grabbed them as well.
It was worth the purchase it as it has given me a new perspective on animated films…dialogue! Lol I have been playing around with some scenes, I may post them for feedback on the use of voices and the puppeteering. Speaking of which, are there any good tutorials out there for puppeteering with iclone and/or crazy talk?
Also I noticed a few limitations with TextAloud: 1) Trying to get emotion/spirit into the voice (what ever its called) is tough, as there is no real control over the voice. I have Audacity but not sure how to apply it, if possible, to change a voice to become more ‘human’. 2) What do people use for grunts or scream work, such as ‘grrr’ or ‘arghh’ etc. Pin Head just repeats the letters :) Any suggestions?
PS: Other than that, progressing well, of course I wouldn't say no to an extension :D
|
|
By Alley - 14 Years Ago
|
|
Hi 3D story...:) I have sent out an email to the committee asking if they would be agreeable to an extension. I suspect they will and the date I am asking for is May 22. That's another two weeks. I shall keep you posted. Regarding the Pinhead voice - the Australian Lee is one of the better ones for showing a little inflection into the voice, i.e. if you put a question mark at the end of the sentence, he will generally change the tone to sound like a question. Exclamation marks don't do much. To make him make other sounds, you have to think in terms of how things sound. As an example, grrr might have to be typed ger or gir. Another trick, is to right click between two words and add a pause of .25 seconds. This sometimes will fix the jumble of words that sometimes seem to come out. And sometimes, you just have to change the dialogue to something he is actually able to say as some words just seem impossible. Ideally we would have Pinhead be a real voice from day 1, but then it would be difficult to always get the same person to record the lines. But - many people have voice Pinhead themselves and it really hasn't ruined the story or the idea of Pinhead. I still suggest that if you have other actors in the story, ask someone to do the lines for you. Everyone in the community is very helpful this way and you will end up with a more enjoyalbe video than with canned voices. Sounds like we are going to have a fair bit of Iclone participation. This should be a lot of fun. Traditionally, most of the entries show up towards the deadline - hardly ever to we get a bunch early. :P Thanks again to Colour and Rog for keeping up the momentum here. :)

Hi Alley!
Yes, try and get our friend Pin Head to say “potatoe”…the best I have so far is “potaytoe”.
i.e. “I am too busy to be a couch potaytoe”
Other than that, I have to say that text to speech has come a long way since Dr. Sbaitso [1]
[1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Sbaitso

3D.
How else do you want Pinhead to pronounce potato?
I have just experimented with him, and he says it perfectly - po-tay-toe, which is how I pronounce it.
If you want "potarto", then spell it that way.
|
|
By 3DStory - 14 Years Ago
|
Actually...it turns out that Pin Head can't spell very well .
I think he was trying to say 'potato' not 'potatoe'. The former is pronounced the way I wanted it, A slight variation, similar to yours, of 'pot tay toe' causes Pin Head to pronounce it even clearer.
Garbage in, garbage out I guess.

Great Storyline, visuals & acting as usual, Peter.:) I'm pretty sure I've seern a similar thought-provoking Theme acted-out many years-ago, in a made for tv film. It also has a sort of Sci-Fi adaptation of Patrick McGoohans 1960's "The Prisoner" cult series. Good visual punchline at the very end. A pat-on-the-back, for submitting the first 3D clip;)

Hey Bigboss,
Great clip! Your new Pinhead is indeed smooth. At the moment I feel like one of your characters though lol
PS: Does anyone know (or point me to a thread) how to reference a picture uploaded to one’s account on the Reallusion forum.
What I mean is I can only embed by referencing an external image such as: (http://www.3dstory.net/uploads/2/7/7/4/2774777/4767137.jpg?850)
Whereas others seem to reference images in an uploads directory on the forum: (https://forum.reallusion.com/Uploads/Images/e7335833-e5d8-4652-9233-d2a7.jpg)
If I change my web site, then the image reference will be invalid. I would prefer to upload images. Hope that made sense!

@ MARK From Laura in Video Friends Forum: Very impressive, Mark! I especially appreciated the attention given to the foley and sound effects. I'm really glad that the committee once again has divided the contest into 2D and 3D categories - we 2D-ers don't stand a chance against many of these iClone entries!
And speaking of 2D....we're being outnumbered 3 to 1 so far, so c'mon all you 2D-ers: let's get going and show these 3D people that we're still a viable art form (as Roger has already shown so well)!!!! I'm hoping to be finished sometime this week (she says optomistically).

Just had the opportunity to watch your clips, and loved them both. Great imagination and an awful lot of work has obviously gone into both of them. The detail in the background scenery alone is outstanding.
Mark, I loved Pinhead's voice, and the slapstick humo(u)r. Great story line, too.
Bigboss, a great story line, as well, with a really neat twist at the end. And I couldn't help noticing that the aliens were in desperate need of a dentist:)
With competition like that, I am glad I have stuck to 2D!

Fantastic movie Mark! All your props are so unique, you must have spent ages working on them. All the props in my film are purchasable in the Reallusion store or the marketplace (supporting the community!) lol
Update on my film: I am flat out rendering out all the scenes, carefully improving the facial animations thanks to others having raised the bar so high (you all cost me sleepless nights)! Once I have everything rendered it’s over to the audio department (yet to seek out sounds and music!) and then onto the cutting room floor (if that’s the right terminology!) I need to have a first cut done by the end of the week so I can review/polish or I’ll run out of time, and I don’t want to have last minute upload problems :)
PS: Response to Alley, it’s not an egg, keep guessing :)

Another thing to remind people of....this project was always meant as a way of learning and a chance to try some new things. This project is not based soley on technical excellence, a big part of it is based on the story. The long-term Pinhead fans think of Pinhead as almost extended family :P, so the more we can relate to Pinhead in your story is really what is important. :)

Actually the glass bubble is just to facilitate a smooth camera shot that whirls around Pinhead with a slightly increasing radius. I posted it as it saved me a lot of time mucking around with paths, which I haven’t had much luck with. I just thought it might be a useful reference for others as a quick way to do those kinds of sweeping pan shots…although others probably have used the technique before…if not we can call it a Pinhead Pan ;) PS: Don't worry, Pinhead only gets a small but plot-vital cut :)

I'm working as fast as I can to finish, but there is the day job in the way. I promise to submit something, even if incomplete. I would never put Pinhead in an unpleasant situation. He's Family;) FWIW, Animagic, my Clips never end-up with the same Storyline idea I started with, due to my limitations with iC. Trial & Error (Mostly Error), alternating with User Manual & Tutorials. It's the Community participation that counts above all-else, in my book. There are several loyal participants who've posted a clip in all of the Projects since Project 1 in 2006. Plus additional "Fun" Clips. Since Pinhead became 3D as well as 2D, there are several loyal iCloners who've participated in every Project in the 3D section. Without them & now yourself, Mark & 3D, the last few Pinhead Projects would have been a "gonner". I would guess that organising & presenting the Pinhead Projects & maintaining Pinhead's Website, take-up at least 25%, if not more, of the Committee's free time. All of whom, apart from Joe, have days jobs. Looking forward to watching your Clip:)

Thank you Peter, for your encouraging words. I really like the idea of the contest, as it helps me focus on something. It is actually the recommended approach by some to develop a story: asking "What if". So: what if Pinhead end up into a time machine? Our stories will try to answer this question. I'm not the greatest animator in the world, but I find that by actually trying to create something, I learn (a point that Alley made as being one of the reasons for the contest). We can theorize till the cows come home that we are not worthy, but I don't find that very productive. As to Pinhead's predicaments, I would never hurt him of course. "Unpleasant" wasn't really the right word, "mind-boggling" perhaps. And he always gets to work with the pretty actresses! I'll give a little taste of Pinhead in a 50s coffeeshop.

Ah, a story about the fifties is always fun!! It's nice to see so much participation in the Iclone world. I normally do a clip just for fun and I haven't yet this time for various reasons. Does anyone know where I could get some props that look like an old London street from the 1800's. A little piece of news. For the Avid Studio prize, Smartsound have agreed to throw in their music plugin. It's a $29.99 value, but it allows you to add smartsound music to your clips quite easily. Not wishing to sound like a commercial, but Smartsound have a deal right now - 10 albums for $249 or 20 for $399. It's a lot of money, prob too much for most people, but thought I would mention it as they normally sell at $99 per album.

The great thing about Britain is that a lot of the older buildings have been preserved and that a lot of people actualy model them. I needed buildings for my imaginary town and found a treasure trove in 3D Warehouse. Texturing is improved as people can now use images from Google street view, which have a pretty good quality if some care is taken. For 1800s London, the housing would depend on where you are. (I'm using TV adaptations of Dickens' stories as a reference.) There are larger homes that are quite nice and then of course those for the less fortunate. Paved streets versus dirt roads.

At the risk of getting in trouble with my fellow committee members, I am prepared to extend the deadline to 12:00 midnight, Pacific Time on Monday, May 23 - as it is a long weekend here in Canada. It is Queen Victoria's Birthday, which we still celebrate. I have a funny feeling that the UK'ers don't get the holiday, but I could be wrong.

Thank you, Alley; most generous. Interesting, that Canada still remembers Queen Victoria. I guess they don't do that for all past royals--you would have a lot of holidays!

Thank you to everyone for their support on the forum, I hope you enjoy watching Pinhead’s adventure as much as I enjoyed filming it! Here are some final screen shots to whet your appetite ;) PS: I had to FTP the clip to the Pinhead web site and send an email as per instructions, so it might not appear for a while.

Hi 3D Looking really good. I'm looking forward to warching it.:) If Brian hasn't picked it-up by monday am UK time, I'll e-mail him & Alley. Been 24/7 job here dealing with sound probs in Pinnacle Studio for iClone post production. I'll Upload mine to Photobucket for immediate viewing first, before I attempt to Upload to Brian. I'm not on the Committee, just the mouthpiece;) However, thank you so much for your enthusiasm & dedication to the Pinhead Cause. Particularly in this Thread. Great clip, 3D.
Loved the story, especially the twist at the end - very clever. Tremendous work on all the backgrounds. Very noteworthy was the realistic wind effect in the plants, and, subsequently in the sand. Must have been a lot of work, but worth it as the little touches helped make it seem more believable.

I guess I will be one of the last. But, there will be something, I promise! I'm at work now, but will have to leave early to finish. Hail to Queen Victoria! Question: On the website it says WMV format. Is MP4 OK too? (It's the format I usually use.) It will be good quality HD and it seems to be about the same file size.

Justin Case;) Animagic, none of the Committee are around to answer your question, I hadn't previously considered MPEG4 HD. However if the File size is the same as WMV Best, I would have thougjht that would be ok. BTW- Brian has added a new Uplosad Host? Site. I've never had much luck with the other options. However, the new Upload Site Uploaded without a hitch. Just remember to Copy the Site's Download Link & e-mail that to Brian, so tht he can add your Clip to PHHQ View Clips page. Well it's 11:54 PM Pacific time and it's uploading, so let's hope for the best. As it is almost 3AM Eastern, I won't wait for it... We will see tomorrow. If worse comes to worst (thus becomes your outlook when working with Pinhead), I can always enter outside the competition. I also just noticed that I have uppercase letters in my file name, which there should not be. Well, it's very late. I'm presenting you with "Pinhead's Dilemma". You see, he ends up in his hometown, in the late fifties, before he was born. Since he feels that life has been unjust to him, he ponders whether he should even start it or not. Hence, the dilemma. I will make a version with proper credits, as many have contributed, unknowingly: RL developers, Google 3D Warehouse modelers, freesound.org recordistst, etc. EDIT: Well, it got stuck at 8% so I'm trying to FTP (pinheads_dilemma.mp4). EDIT 2: That didn't work either, so now it's uploading.com...

@ 3D Story From Dennis (Justaviking in Video Friends Forum): y - Good story. Awesome opening sequence. I don't know how much was canned and how much was hand-crafted, but it was an excellent use of the tools.
I loved the "China" reference (very amusing).
My only "constructive criticism" would be that I wish Pinhead's voice was a bit louder most of the time.
And around the mid-point, when I heard the music, I had a feeling what was coming. I might have trouble sleeping now. And at the end, I suspected what the end would be, and now I know I will have trouble sleeping. Eeew.
So what I'm really saying is, thanks for sharing a great Pinhead video!!!
And from Laura (Ahroo) in Video friends Forum: I just watched 3D Story's clip and it is very entertaining! I really liked the waving tree leaves and plants. I don't want to give anything else away, so I won't say anything more about specifics other than to say it was another very well-done video.
You iCloners are very creative and talented! I've tried working with the program and have been very frustrated and limited in what I have been able to accomplish, so my virtual hat is off to all of you! My comments are those that have already been Posted & quoted. Thanks a lot for a very an enjoyable entertaining Clip & joining-in the Pinhead Community Project.:)

That was a really great clip, Animagic. You have captured 1950s England absolutely superbly, complete with so many little touches of authenticity. Each time I watch it (three times, so far), I spot something else.
Very clever storyline, too.
Altogether well worth the wait - and the final climax of the attempts to upload:)

Altogether well worth the wait - and the final climax of the attempts to upload:)Well - I was going to Post what Roger's Posted, but he beat me to it.;) Apart from the above, this is an important archival Video. There aren't that many 8mm Amateur Cine Films recording 50's & 60's Britain 'cos for us Brits, unlike North Americans, Cinefilming & Video Recording werent/aren't a priority hobby/interest & Cinefilm cameras were very expensive & in short supply at the time, here in the UK. In the lae 50's I had my Kodak Brownie Box camera:D & would drool over the Bell & Howel 8mm Cinefilm cameras in the very few & far-between photography mags at the time. My Parents were totally disinterested in my enthusiasm for photography, which was surprising, since my Maternal Grandfather was a "Pioneer" Photographer. Many Thanks for transporting Pinhead & the rest of us, back to the 50's, Animagic.:) you've "Made my day";)

Thank you all for your kind words, it was worth my lack of sleep. :doze: I'm especially pleased that it looks believable to the Brits. Even though I grew up in the fifties, I was never in Britain at the time, so I had to do a lot of research; mainly using Google images. That was great fun! I then of course had to make it workable as it takes a lot of time to fill in the details. All in all, it seems to have been a much wilder time (for some) then I would have thought. The coffee house was indeed a center (centre) and meeting place for the beat generation. I even found a photo of protest in New York against the closing of coffeeshops. I had wanted to add more cars, but it was hard to find suitable models of ordinary cars. Then again, streets weren't that flooded with cars as they are now. The Pinhead's MG Midget is a bit later than 1959, but it is such a nice car and it seemed appropriate for the time machine to change vehicles. The Morris Mini/Austin Seven came out in 1959 and marks the time nicely. Another great find was the bus that you see in the beginning. My one attempt at modeling my own is the Hillman Husky you see in the street where Pinhead visits his boyhood home. The last scene had to be rushed; in the screenplay Pinhead brings a bouquet of flowers as would be appropriate.

Animagic, great clip. A lot of attention to detail (love the green car). (SPOILER coming) Like Bigboss, I was also expecting Pinhead to swap the letter which might have resulted in a twisted outcome (I like twisted time travel outcomes hehe).

From Dennis (JustaViking) in Video Friends Forum: Animagic - Pinhead's Dilemma
I, too, noticed the posters on the wall and other nice touches. I also enjoyed your cinematography and camera direction, starting with the opening sequence of the woman walking on the sidewalk. And the tolling bell added to a sense of mystery and curiosity, so it really grabs a person right from the beginning.
And the ending. Hmm, what to say. I want to know what the woman learned from Pinhead. Any chance of a sequel?
Great job.
Dulci - Pinhead In The Chamber
It is amazing how much you can do with a single setting like that. I will have to listen to it a couple more times as I was having some trouble understanding the "voice," but I got enough to understand the story line. The use of close-ups was effective. Nice job, and thanks for giving us a Pinhead clip to enjoy. I have added it to my collection.

This was my first Pinhead project and I enjoyed working on it. Like almost everyone else I ran into serious time constraints and had to rush the last few days, but in the end it was worthwhile to be able to present a finished product. In my story Pinhead is critical of the committee, but I think they do a great job in coming up with these contests. I also feel that everyone who contributed is already a winner: instead of talking about making (or not making) a film, we actually did something about it.

Thought I'd add the following:
I've done 3 Pinhead Projects using just iClone & Studio for post iClone production. All others have been a mixture of iClone, Animation Factory, Heroglyph & Studio.
I've "cheated" in my previous 2 Projects by using a Project Template & substituting the Character with Pinhead & adding a bit of my own. Also I've directly Copied a Video tutorial, adding a bit of my own.
No "Cheating" in this Project. Although it took me a very long time to create EL Paso, I was surprised how much I'd remembered from my previous 2 Projects without having to refer to the User Manual & Video Tutorials.
If you want to learn an Animation Program, I can't think of any better way than to join the Pinhead Projects, using a common central Character with a common theme.
There are very few 3D Animators who manage to Produce a complete Storyline Clip, becuase it's very difficult & time-consuming to do. Joining-in a Common Project makes it a darned-sight easier.

| | Thank you Colour for the announcement. Yes,the vote for the Golden Pinheads is now open. To vote, go to www.pinheadhq.com and press the GPA's tab to get to the vote page. This year, we are giving the 3D people the option to skip voting in the 2D division if preferred. The Golden Pinhead's are a prestigious award voted by your peers. It is a symbolic win, and your name will be engraved on a Golden Pinhead and displayed in our Hall of Fame. The prizes are awarded via careful consideration by the committee and other select members of the community. With Pinhead, we have always emphasized that a good story is worth more than a lot of special effects and it is even more lovely when there is an entry that excels in both areas. Once again, the winner of the Best 3D as judged by committee and peers will receive Avid Studio, a recently released program from Avid and along with that, Smartsound have thrown in their Plugin for the program. Prize is worth $200.00. The winner of the best 2D clip with receive "Crazy Talk Animator" from Reallusion. The vote will remain active for about 1 week and soon thereafter, we will present the "Awards Ceremony". Thanks to everyone who participated, and to all who help us out with your vote. As a note to everyone, the Pinhead projects will continue for at least another year, due to many fans who have come to know and love him. This was a busy year for all the committee members with various personal situations which kept us from being as vocal as normal. We would very much like to thank Colour and RogRead and some of the newcomers for keeping the thread going and showing so much enthusiasm. We can't thank you enough.

Hi Colour,
Anyone can vote, not just the "participants" ?
The participants can vote? It would feel weird if I went online and voted, let alone voted for my own clip lol
But then I remember a movie I saw a long time ago (can't remember the name) where some politician voted for the opposition...and lost by 1 vote :w00t:
Of course I am not taking it that seriously, it just reminded me of said movie ;)

Hi 3DStory, Anyone can vote, including the participants. The award is a symbolic award, so I would be surprised if people voted for themselves, unless they felt very strongly that their clip was the best in a certain area. Most people are quite honorable, so I wouldn't worry about it. From my perspective....this is the first time I didn't do an entry (my entries do not qualify for prizes), but I can tell you that I personally never voted for my own entry. Like you, I would feel uncomfortable doing that. But - I maintain - if a participant feels strongly that their entry was the strongest in a certain area, then by all means vote for yourself.

Come on Guys and Gals, there are some awesome clips to be voted on, (and the 2D clips are pretty good, too;)) and the more votes there are, the greater the honour to be awarded a Golden Pinhead Award.
Voting is open to anyone, participants and viewers alike. You may not have had time to submit a clip, but voting only takes a few minutes and is a great way to support those who did take part.
Just go to www.pinheadhq.com then the GPA tab.

Is it possible to make a decent version of him for CTA? The idea would to be to make him available for download so that CTA users could participate in the 2D Division. Just thought I would ask - :)
