Warning. If, like me, you use CTA in various locations and are used to using a laptop on the go and a PC at home, forget it. You are forced to make a full delete of the software before you can put it on another machine; unlike Toon Boom, Sony software, Serif products even Microsoft etc.
However my uninstallation from the laptop failed twice to be acknowledged by Reallusion's website forcing me to use one of the 5 'seats' we are allowed by Reallusion.
Because of this limitation, the Licence I have paid for will allow me to use the software for about six months in the way I have used CT6. After this time the product will have limited use. It will only operate thereafter on one machine in perpetuity. I will never be able to change my PC or my OS ever! I have complained to Reallusion who so far have advised me to uninstall CTA from the laptop and install on my PC. This advice ignored the information clearly stated in my complaint that I had already done this and that it had failed to deactivate on their website.
UPDATE********* Reallusion seem to laughing at us! This is their reply
Dear User,
If you often use CrazyTalk Animator on two computers , we suggested that you may buy two licences,
As to deactivated issue , when uninstalling and is connected to the internet it should reset the deactivation times ,we have found this issue and will fix it in the next version , now we have reset your deactivation times

In my opinion the licence cripples the product's usefulness and prevents users having full use and enjoyment of the product. The crippling licence restictions have resulted in the name 'Reallusion' being associated with disspointment for this customer which is not good for business.
My use of CTA is (was) as part of my not-for-profit venture.

i agree very much. I used my notebook when i am on the go, and my home desktop when i am home. I really need to be able to work on both systems, and although i havent tried to uninstall/etc. i won't for fear i will end up with it not working anywhere. I won't/can't purchase two licenses for this - and it doesn't make sense to do that - I just want to have the flexibility to work on my notebook and home desktop as needed. Realusion - come on - get real. That is how many of us work.

Agree too. I hope that Reallusion come up with some solution for this problem. The old system was so mush better:)

Yep RL dont care about us at all and their reply's are, at best, sarcastic. Anyhow it has enabled me to make a clear decision to ditch their products and use toon boom and anime for my weekly broadcasts. Well done RL real winning attitude to your most valuable comodity, even more than your software; YOUR CUSTOMERS.

I agree with all of you, this is not a workable software to me now. I can't be restricted to one pc either. This does now cause me to look elsewhere for software. What I really don't understand is why this product, why not all your products do you supply this very inconvient way to work?

But Peter, can´t you see the problem with the licenses?
In CTA you can at least see how often you did a deactivation of one license, allthough you are limited to deo this 5 times. So it is impossible to use one license at home and at work.
This isn´t good.
But the main problem is the 5 time limit in iClone. Many people do sometimes make a new installation of ther OS, perhaps Windows is working slowly after some time, or they do major changes in hardware configuration...
Without deinstalling iClone, the counters counts...
And the main problem is, that it is intransparent how many installations allready have been made.
If the installation would say eg: "you have 3 of 5 installations, only 2 left, please remember to deinstall iClone properly while connected to the internet" it would be much more transparent for the users.
Although I keep saying, the Autodesk system is much better!
You can install one license on as many machines as you like, but have to activate the one you whant to work actually by internet, and the others are deactivated for this time. You can do this as often as you like.
Doing so, Autodesk can be sure that really only one installation of the same license is used at the same time, and the users do not have a problem with working on more computers, and installing, formatting, deleting them as they are used to: format c:\ => install

I certainly do understand the argument about the license issue but my reply was regarding the statement that the previous poster had suffered a hardware failure and then added "Well done Reallusion" as if it was the software that had caused the hardware issue. Having bios failures, hard drive crashes or other hardware problems do happen but on a normal system they will be pretty rare and not something you would expect to encounter every few months or so. Although probably tempting fate I haven't encountered a serious hardware issue for many years. Complaints about not being able to put CTA on both a desktop and notebook or at work and at home are valid points and fully understandable. Trying to somehow blame a hardware failure on Reallusion's license policy is taking it a bit far surely?

well I started this topic and am glad to see it is still alive.
I am appalled that because I suffered hardware failure I have only four 'lives' left for those instances when I cannot UN-install!

I did put the drives onto another computer in the hope that i could unistall from there but to no avail. Thanks for the commiserations though. Mind you not all bad news, the i7 processor takes about 2 Min. to render what used to take 40 Mins or more!!!!!!

I understand what you are saying but it really isn't as bad as you may think. Although extremely unlikely, if you were to install 5 times without being able to uninstall first, you would only need to contact Support and explain the situation. If it is a genuine case Support will gladly help you out and get you up and running again. The 5 install limit has been in force for many years and I don't know of anyone who has been locked out of their software permanently.

This kinda sucks. I was just about to uninstall and reinstall my CTA because I cant get any picture on my projects, but after reading this thread, I'm afraid to. I'm stuck with a program I can't make any animations with and a limited to license. *dunt dunt dunt duuuuuuuun* "When using more than one computer goes wrong." ^^^Thats the name of this show. If it can't be fixed, I will have no choice but to go back to Anime Studio and Photoshop. I'm on a timed clock and I need to make material really fast. I've already wasted enough time just learning this program (that I can't use yet :P ) It's nice to show off, which is all I've done so far. Making videos from my Blackberry. I ran my mouth too soon lmao.

I ran my mouth too soon lmao. If you uninstall first before reinstalling then you will be ok. You can also deactivate a computer at any time by logging into your Account. You can then install onto a new computer should you be replacing your old one. For the problem you are having with the display, please update your graphics drivers as this is the most common cause of issues like those you are experiencing. If that fails to help then please contact Tech Support using the link below. Windows 7 and Microsoft Office both use the same system of checking how many times it's been installed / uninstalled on a machine. So Reallusion are not doing anything unique here. Seems a common and valid method to check for license infringements, and in a time where it's hard to get some people to pay for software, seems fair enough to protect their business and our future with the software! With Microsoft, I just phone them, explain why I've gone over my install quota and they reset the counter for me. I'd expect the same from Reallusion, as I think was mentioned in one of the posts.
