I wanted to make an Avatar fade out of a scene, but noticed that there is no opacity setting for Avatars. Am I missing something?

The answer is that iClone is giving you control over opacity in a far more granular fashion. Consider how an Avatar is actually built: Skin: Face, Upper, Lower, Hands, and Shoes (=feet). Clothing: Upper, Lower, Shoes, and (optionally) Gloves. And don't forget Hair.
To do what you want, all these parts of the avatar can--and must--be given their own time-varying opacity. You can tell that the Opacity channel is keyable over time because it's lettered in blue on the Modify panel.
The problem is that once you make the Face skin transparent, the eyeballs, eyelashes, teeth, tongue, and throat will still show, and these generally don't have a time-varying Opacity channel. At this point, I am going to promote the completion of your answer to someone smarter than me.
My first thought is that to give these internal structures time-varying opacity, you would have to load a dark-bright video cycle into their opacity channels.
If so, then you would not bother with setting any Opacity keys on the other objects. Instead, you could load a *similar* video into all the opacity channels for the avatar and have them synchronized.
*Similar* not *identical* because the different parts have their own required opacity maps. The fundamental bright-dark cycle would have to be composited over the static opacity maps.

Am I missing something? While there is no opacity setting for complete avatars there is the Display On/Off selector on the Modify Panel. Using this automatically adds keys to the Visible track of the Timeline and enables you to make all parts of the avatar disappear from the scene completely. Using this combined with Pau's suggestion above for Uppers, Lowers, Shoes etc you can make the avatar fade slowly and then disappear completely.

I'd do scene against a solid background > render and bring into a video editor , where process is easier

A little distraction from some special effects and no one will see the eyes and mouth.
Here's what I did:

Very pretty character. The synthetic voice is surprisingly good.

Yeah, I love the British accent. It's AT&T Audrey16 (UK English). I tried recording and altering my own voice, but I sound like crap. She sounds much better.

Hi that is very cool! Can you please explain how to create this type of effect ( avatar appearing). It will be great if you can give me an idea how to go about it.
Thank you V

One way may be to save your animation or still as a billboard and fade it in that way. Thanks
