I have looked through the forums and the white papers - am I missing a tutorial for gloves? What I really need is thumbless mittens. I have the Mr. Pose character set, for which the hands work great for my current project, except that my character was designed without a thumb. I can use the texture map to make the thumb invisible, but that leaves a hole, so I was hoping to just create some gloves to cover it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have looked in the content store and found nothing - I suspect people rarely need a character without a thumb.

Hi nicelyMalicious, why dont you just add a torus prop (from the 3dblocks folder) scale it down around the wrist area and paint the hand and the torus the same color, I bet you it will look like a glove for mr pose for sure.
Hope this helped,

Thanks for the tip, Stuckon3D. I don't know why I thought it had to be full gloves, since I used a "shoulder plate" to fill in the shoulders where I had to make the neck transparent. Yes, it is true - he is thumbless and neckless. I did not design this character, and he has been the bane of my existence for about five days now.
I'd still like to learn how to make gloves. Is it just terribly complicated? I tried editing the hand mesh via export mesh, but the tiniest edit threw an import error. I work in Max, Maya and (my fave) Cinema 4D, but I haven't been involved in character modeling since about 2005. Dealing with the bones seems to be my downfall, but I'm determined to overcome it.

If you need it a neck and thumbs why didnt you use the jimmy toon character, make the head invisible and put a sphere on top of the neck? :P

Jimmy Toon has fingers. At least with Mr. Pose, I was only trying to get rid of the thumb. Anyway, I can't get the hand to round out properly - removing the thumb makes that side of the hand flat, and I can't attach a prop/accessory that animates with the folding of the hand. I have given iClone a miss on this one. I'm doing it all in C4D. Too bad I spent the money on Mr. Pose.

I figured out how to round out my character's hands and still use iClone - animated props. I made two gloves that cover the lower arm, with points that line up to the arms near the elbow, just to make sure there was no chance of the empty space at the wrist showing through. I animated the simple motions of the stumpy hands in Max using a simple three-bone system and exported the animated props, then made the Mr. Pose hands transparent and attached the gloves to the lower arm. They work out pretty well, and I can still attach things to the invisible hands and use the prop animation to look like he's holding them.

Here is a Pair or Thumbless Mittens ! :) Note: There has been numerous problems with Zip files on this forum. If you download the attachments and it has no extension, add the .zip to it and uncompress. Hope this helps !:)

Thanks BigBoss. We've had minor disagreement about principles or approaches, but I look forward to many years working in iClone alongside you. Just hope that's clear!
