Can this product be used to generate textures for use outside of iClone 4, so in photo compositing or video compositing? Thanks. Keith

I know nothing about any of the versions. Just heard about Genetica today in an email promotion. How hard is it to learn the software?

I've been using the viewer for quite some time.
You can start off knowing NOTHING. Just export your textures and call it a day. The learning curve is pretty stable.
I haven't used any of the paid versions, but the viewer comes with tons of free to use textures.
I'm not sure what the difference is between the studio and pro versions. I do know that the pro versions can make HDR and reflection maps and the studio can't.
I hope that helps.
I'd get this, but the only real reason I want it is for the HDR/reflection maps and there are some other smaller applications that can do that if that's all you're going to use it for.

sjonesdc (8/2/2010) Do you know anything about the Studio version???
Yeah, basically the PRO and Studio version are the same.
The only difference being that the Studio version has preset animations and can create animated textures. Besides that, PRO version can do everything else that the Studio version can do.
Oh yeah, and the Studio version has a $500 price difference !!! :D

One of them had the HDR thing and I think that was the pro version... wasn't it?

Thanks for the answer to my questions. I'm not sure that I'm at the stage to use this product. I'm just out of the real beginners stage.

Hi there, here are the main differences between packages
I have the pro version. And love it. You can create from cartoony textures to total photoreal ones. This software is like iclone, easy to get started but if you take the time to learn it well, its very deep and you can do just about anything with textures. Also, the fact that you are making them, takes away the stress of not knowing if you are using a copyrighted photograph.
Hope this helps,
Stuckon3d

sjonesdc (8/3/2010) Thanks for the answer to my questions. I'm not sure that I'm at the stage to use this product. I'm just out of the real beginners stage.
I felt the same way, but after reading some more about Genetica its really not that hard to use and you can use it for any other application, NOT just for iClone!
Also keep in mind that Reallusion is offering a super discount right now and this will end soon. Im just waiting for the weekend to purchase my PRO version. ;)
I have a feeling the price will significantly change soon.
cheers !

There are zillions of textures you can easily find on Google image searches.
Why would you need to buy a $400 package for textures.
I appreciate the fine looking marketing piece and all. The graphics and presentation of the genetica looks superb.
This is not a rhetorical jab at Genetica. I'd seriously like to know why

There are zillions of textures, but they may be copyrighted and perhaps not of the quality and resolution that you need. Also, Genetica lets you actually generate them, giving more flexibility. I bought it with 50% off, so I didn't pay $400. It may be more useful for those who develop their own content.
