Hello everyone! My name is Julie and I am a 3D Generalist with a passion for characters! This is my drawing and character I am making for the Character Creator Contest - I have named her Rosa. I hope to transform her into an appealing 3D character!

I have started working on modifying the CC3 Base Mesh in Zbrush and also started to block in the hair and clothing:

I also wanted to preview of how she's looking inside CC. It's always fun to see your characters take shape and move, even in the early stages!

I hope to have another update by the end of the weekend! Stay tuned!

I'm posting these updates a bit later than I intended, but I wanted to show some progress!

In general, I tend to bounce between Zbrush and Maya pretty frequently to create my models. For example, this hat started as a roughed-out shape in Zbrush, but I felt I could get it closer to the look I wanted by sending it over to Maya to create cleaner topology. In this situation, this cleaned up model can serve as both my low poly, and high poly models.

The image on the left is the Zbrush block out, with the retopologized model on the right:

I am also developing her clothing by making extractions from the CC base mesh. I am trying to keep the topology pretty close to the CC base mesh, so I can get a nice transfer of weights when the outfit gets imported into CC.

For example, here is the topology I extracted and then modified for her skirt:

I am done with the high poly model! Now it's time to crank out the retopology!

I spent most of my time on the hair, which I created by creasing edges and sending hair brushes along those creased edges. The hair brushes I used for this project were created by Simon Chapman, which you can find on ArtStation. I always enjoy seeing the hair after I've Polygrouped them with Auto Groups! So colorful!

We're getting down to the final days! I've had multiple setbacks this month, but I'm trying hard to make the deadline! I finished the retopology of the outfit and have been texturing it in Substance Painter this week. I have also been working on the hair, which has been a bit of a beast, but I will hopefully have it done tomorrow as well. I'd like to use the rest of the weekend to set up everything in CC, if all goes well!

I finished the retopology on her hair yesterday, as well as the texturing in Substance Painter:

And now I'm back in CC! Tomorrow I will fix some of the morphs in the Facial Profile Editor and then do renders. Almost there!
