Dear iClone Users,
We have now released the iClone 8.42 update. However, as with all updates there may be a few bugs, glitches or other annoying issues that stubbornly remain.
Important: If you do find any bugs, issues or glitches in iClone 8.42, please can you report them first in the Feedback Tracker. Then feel free to discuss the issues in this thread but do try to include a link back to the original Feedback Tracker report or your tracker number.
As always it will help us greatly if we can keep all technical issues in the one place (this thread). This will help the development team keep track of any problems.
Please do try to provide your full system specifications and a detailed description of the problem when reporting issues and include screenshots and/or a workflow video whenever possible. If you can provide specific steps so we can try and reproduce the problem that will be even better.

Hello, I have a very big problem since update 8.4. I've been working on a big project for several months, and when I save with the new version 8.4 I can't open it anymore because it crashes when loading. Even without making any changes, just saving with 8.4, I can't open it afterwards. I can no longer work with iClone 8.4 without corrupting my backups. Fortunately I have now gotten into the habit of making multiple backups otherwise I would lose months of work...! How do I revert to the previous version of iClone?
EDIT : I made several eliminations and noticed that it was the "Flick water" visual effect that was causing me to crash. Which was not the case in the previous version of iClone.

When applying an Actor Group (built-in), I get an error about missing files:
Strangly enough, the files are all there, and the Actor Group loads and functions without problems. Could it be a database problem? (In my previous post I reported about missing thumbnails.)

I can't reproduce this or the missing files issue Job.
It may be a database error as you assume.

Thanks for checking, Gerry. I did a database reset for CC4.4, but that didn't help for the thumbnails. I also updated CC4.4 on another PC and found the same issue. If this unique for me then I'm in trouble...

I took drastic measures and completely uninstalled IC8.4 and CC4.4, and that seemed to have helped. When I reinstalled iClone, the Pack thumbnails reappeared...

If it's convenient for you, you can also try to see if the following actions can solve the problem of your project not working properly 1.From the Cache section at the bottom of the preference, click on the clear button for DDS Performance Boost.
2.Disable Compress Resource and DDS Performance Boost and try to load the project again.

When working in crowd sim pack I cannot attach a prop to a character's hand. Why? I am trying to attach a coffee cup to a character and there is no way in the world to do this. I found the accessory pack and clicked on the male left hand coffee cup, but it puts the cup on the floor away from the character. Even when I move the cup to the characters hand and reposition it to fit like I want, it will not attach or link to the character. What good is an accessory that doesn't attach?

Sim characters assume a Lite status by default. To be able to work with various character's properties you have to switch to Edit mode and when done switch back to Lite for better performance. You may do it in either Scene Manager or Modify panel.

Starting late last week, iC8 began crashing off and on, no matter whether I was using Motion Live or not. But more frequent when I use Motion Live. I've looked at my system, and it appears I have plenty of memory to work. No surprise because I'm not heavy into animation. I use iC and CC mainly to create book covers, and sometimes ultra brief video greetings or messages. The program just reports that it is not responding, I get a white screen that's translucent. and the not responding message. Sometimes, it corrects itself, before crashing again later. This started suddenly. First, I thought it was due to me downloading and installing Micro$oft's ClipChanp, because for me, MS stuff has a history of doing things I didn't ask it to do. Like installing without my say so, so-called helpful plugs, changing my configurations etc. So this morning, I uninstalled ClipChamp. Still, iC8 crashes. What about CC4? No issues. I did see that I had a long list of projects listed in the menu (Preference or Recent???), which removed from the list. I know RL recently did an update to iC8, so maybe this is the cause. Right now, I can hardly get anything done due to the frequency of the crashes.

@Jason: You can try disabling Environment Reflection in the Preference settings under Real-time Render Options. This has helped me and others as well.
There have also been reports that the latest Nvidia drivers give problems but I believe that was fixed.

Trial versions of iClone 8.4 report 0 exports left right from the beginning. I'm also having the same issue with Unreal Live Link plugin trial. I'm teaching an intensive class using the trial versions and the upgrade to 8.4 (and lack of archived downloads for older versions) has totally sabotaged progress for the students.

I'm having all the same issues mentioned here. Another one for me is that, when using AccuFace, it won't stay in iC8 window. It minimizes, forcing me to bring it back repeatedly. That happens any time I click anything in iC8. But the worse i s the freezes, and/or Not Responding messages. In which case, iC8 recovers on its own, or I have to close the program, come back and again. Repeatedly. This wasn't true before the 8.4 upgrade.
At least with RL, we have a vendor that endeavors to remedy software issues instead of ignoring its customers as too many businesses do these days.

All default Motion plus clips from "Animated" folder are baked with material track. This does not cause the problem in CC but in iClone it sure does in some cases.
Like here, her eyelashes are colored dark with diffuse color. But when Motion plus clip is applied, the color reset to default white I could split and remove material track, but it should not be there in the first place and would sure confuse users.

Glow slider has maximum value of 6000 instead of 100 (Feedback Tracker #11069):
Steps to reproduce: 1. Load an object such as a box (any prop without a Glow texture will do). 2. Add a texture in the Glow channel. 3. Observe that the maximum value for the slider is 6000.
This also occurs in CC 4.4.

I noticed that too the other day, but after comparing Glow behavior with IC7, I figured this might be an "enhancement".
So I created a project with no lights (but with GI enabled) and a couple of cubes in IC7 and maxed Glow map emissive strength to 100 and sRGB enabled (for the right cube). Saved the project and opened it in IC8. The glow strength was at 100 and visually was the same as in IC7
But then I start cranking glow strength from 100 to 6000 and noticed a huge difference.
RL basically increased GI glow emissive influence/strength at the scene (thought it could also be increased with Glow/Self-Illumination scale)
I do not know why they came up with this particular number (6000). But they left 100 strength intact for the backward compatibility with older projects I believe.

It may be an enhancement, but it makes adjustments for reasonable levels much harder. For video screens for example, I use a combination of Glow and Self Illumination, and high Glow levels are just blurring out any text on the screen. If the slider was logarithmic instead of linear it wouldn't be so bad.

Try updating your graphics drivers. Often after an update old graphics drivers may cause problems like this.

Are you by chance using an Insider Preview version of Windows 11? There are known issues with using Insider Preview versions so this could be causing the problem.

I'm having the same issue as Betapuru Digital and Bandile have had in the posts above. I have a RTX 3080 ti with the latest driver. Updated to the latest build of CC4 sent out this morning. Everything was working fine on the weekend. iClone 8 opens without any issues. In the task manager, after launching CC4 I notice it says 'suspended' in the process pane and the program quits suddenly. Tried running as administrator with the same result. Windows 10 system....

Yes, the program appeared to hang/suspend when trying to install the FaceTool plug-in. After I ran Windows Update to make sure I had the latest drivers and security software installed, I still had the problem, CC4 wouldn't load. Upon uninstalling then reinstalling CC4 after a clean boot, that appears to have fixed the issue, and CC4 opens up without any issue. Thank you.

I had the same issue, I was able to fix this with the new driver update from Nvidia 546.33 driver update fixed this issue for me. I hope this helps. I'm running off a RTX3070 Graphics card.

I purchased iClone 8 and the motion director files will not download to my computer. I have uninstalled then reinstalled iClone and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the content but the motion director files and a few update files will not download. I have checked my connection to the internet and logged in to my reallusion account within iClone. Is there any trick I can use to get the motion director files to download to my computer?

Not sure if this is just since 8.4, but on larger projects (multiple characters, lights, cameras, etc.) the thing that takes the longest, believe it or not, is RENAMING items in the Scene Manager. This s/b just a simple text replacement. Why does it take MORE THAN A MINUTE for each item re-named? This occurs on many of my projects -- they just have to be fairly heavy duty. My PC has 32GB RAM and a RTX3090, so more than enough horsepower (these projects are using less than 25% of my resources). Anyone else seeing this problem? Very anti-productive when you are working on a project.

UVs corrupt for Mesh_Medium sample terrains. Those mesh based terrains could be converted to props, but corrupt UV maps nullify this advantage. Converted props cannot be loaded back after saving. No other maps (such as bump/normal) could be added to enhance terrain appearance. Nor could they be sent to CC for geometry tweaking. Exporting to FBX and importing to Blender immediately revels corrupt UV maps.
(maybe there are 2 sets of UV maps and the corrupt one takes over whenever you to try to manipulate props after conversion)

Hello, I just purchased the iClone 8, CC4 Upgrade. When I add an object to the scene it flies away. This happened from the first launch with no changes and even in new projects. If i quickly add additional objects, they fly away. It only happens on the currently selected object-- so adding additional objects allow the previous object to stop moving. If the camera is selected, it spins and flies away. I cannot use iClone 8.4 because of this.
Seems to be physics related because the objects spin as the float out of view. Please help ASAP

Do my existing Addons for Facial Mocap in particular work with iClone 8? I made a significant investment for Mocap and purchased the Pipeline edition of CC3 and also Purchased 3DXchange. I hope, My plugins for mocap in iClone, will work or be freely upgraded. Please let me know if MotionLive, and iphone profile will work with version 8?

Looking at the properties panel, I can see that the transforms, rotate and position are being updated when the object is selected. if no object is selected the camera's transform is updated-- causing them/it to fly away.

If you look in RL Hub, you should see the availability of updated plugins. They should have been updated free of charge as far as I know.
In the Hub, select iClone 8.x and then look under Add-ons. Available plugins will be there.

Check your Render State in either Scene Manager or on the Modify Panel (see below). It may be set to Smooth instead of Normal.
If it is already set to Normal, try turning off "Progressive Loading" under Performance in Preferences (CTRL+P).
However, if the problem continues, please try updating your graphics drivers as this can also cause display issues.

I've used Merge Project frequently in the past and find a very useful feature.
However, lately iClone simply crashes rather than doing the merge, even with simple merges of only a single item, such as a prop or camera.

A new problem has popped up with an existing project, where various items suddenly cause watermarks, including the "Infinite plane" which is built-in content.
"Activate purchased items" has no effect.
So I uninstalled and reinstalled the Props pack that contains the Infinate plane and while doing so had to agree to an updated license agreement, which resolved the problem.
If the updated license is indeed the cause of the watermark then that is not a very user-friendly way of going about things...

using Fog on a sky "Fog influence" makes the sky completely dark It all comes down to sky scaling. By default it's scaled to 1000 (a huge sphere which stretches beyond fog end distance). You may set the sky scale to 100 and then go up as necessary to accommodate for distant shots and at the same time to be within the reasonable distance "inside" the fog.

Thanks for the answer, but this doesnt seem to work. The fog covers the center of the sky dome only. So if i make the sky smaller/larger only the centered (dark) fog area changes but not the thickness of the fog, which i would have expected to become thinner/thicker. So in all i wont be able to make the sky shine through, not even when readjusting the fog sliders . Hope i am not understanding this feature the wrong way.

What I do instead of using the Sky element (.iSky) is to use the built-in Sky dome prop and map the sky texture on that.
You can play with the scale and depending on the setting the fog will partially hide the sky. The color of the fog also play a role. It's not perfect, but adequate in my case.

Try going with 150-200 mm camera and then balance Fog Start/End with Sky scaling for the best visual.
And yes, Sky360 dome is a lot better choice due to its transform flexibility. Just do not forget to crank the Self-Illumination all the way up for the material.
