Another Self-Hosting Problem

Hello out there.

I have been trying to self host on our business website. I have been trying multiple widget example as well as the various exporting tutorials/suggestions provided by this forum. I am not able to see anything on the site that I have embeded the code into. I do see a still puzzle piece looking graphic on the source page of my editor. I will should some screen captures of what i'm talking about.

One thing that I'm thinking is that, I am possibly having an issue with the fact that my business website is hosted by a company that provides us with a content management editing service and it has a different url address then the main business site (see attachments). With in the editing side of the website I have made a widget folder to store the source folder in. Like I stated earlier I have followed all of the tutorials and suggestions posted on your site. I don't know what could be the problem. Also, when I try to view the the exported project with in my IE browser, from my local computer, I can't see anything, it trys to load but nothing is viewable.

Could the issue be the editing side of my content management editor? When I upload my source files I have to create new folders and name them the same and upload the files to the respected folders. I don't dont have a ftp feature to upload the whole source folder at one time.

(I also have done the following, updated/cleared my java and internet cache, and have the latest version on flash)

Hello,

my first thought was a work around, you can get a free website server and just use it for hosting the actual widget files, this would automatically bypass any issues you 'might' have with your own server, since now you just simply place the embed code of the widget from the other site. My own website consists of about 5 different websites summarized on one page of widgets. there are a ton of really good free website hosts you can use for this that have no ads.

the next thing that came to mind, was my own first experience with making self hosting widgets .... ultimately I made one folder called "widgets" and then sub folders based on the different widgets I create.

ie

host/widgets/welcomewidget/
host/widgets/mainbodywidget/

other than that, It's hard to say what it could be, I do know that some sites restrict certain files , and that restriction could render your widget inactive if the host itself disables an important file thats needed by the widget to function correctly, for example the site I use does not allow the .iwidget files, but lucky for me the widgets do not need those files to function.

Anyways, my 2 cents, I hope it helps.

one more thing, go to your control panel, click on the java panel, then under "temporary internet settings" select "settings" then delete files , this will clear your java cache which is separate from your internet explorer cache , just in case something got messy there .... another good thing to do is use a freeware program called cccleaner , it will help delete any files that the IE explorer did not erase, which does happens at times especially when files get damaged / corrupted.

Hey thanks for the reply,

This is really frustrating. I got the reallusion widgetcast hosting to work from my site, but not my self host. I now trying a file hosting server and still can't get it work, appears to try to load but doesn't. I have a couple of screen captures of my process. Maybe I'm doing something wrong with my Url or something. Could someone take a look and let me know?

Hi Brian,

Support offers the following advice on this problem.

This issue is caused because when self-hosting, mediafire.com will dynamically translate the file address while uploading images and html files (e.g. .swf, .img, .html, .js...etc). This result of this is that the Widget can't link to the uploaded files. We suggest you use RL hosting OR try this free self-hosting: freewebtown- http://www.freewebtown.com/community/index.php.
