Hi, I've used iclone7 for several years on a desktop. Now there's a laptop I'm interested in buying so I won't be stuck at my desk. Could somebody please tell me if the specs listed below would be compatible with using iclone8?

No. You need a laptop with a built in Nvidia graphics card (6GB OR Higher). You need at least an i5 CPU.

I have had mixed experiences with Acer products. If it's in the budget look for something from Asus, MSI, or Alienware.

Also, I would look for a GPU with at least 8 GB. It seems that every new version of iClone has heavier graphics requirements.

Finally, although a laptop is attractive in a way, a desktop would give you more power for the same price.

Thank you for clarifying that. Would those specs be any different if I only wanted to use it to make animations, but not for gaming?

I exclusively use iClone for animation (I make my films with iClone) and the higher details (textures in particular) require a more powerful system.

My current system has an Nvidia RTX 3090 with 24 GB and that gets used sometimes.

I’d say it was the opposite. You could get away with lower specs for gaming - it’s animation and IC8 that needs the better hardware.

The graphics card isn’t optional - to do anything beyond simple scenes you need an RTX card with at least 8gb of VRAM and even that’ll run out pretty quickly. And given that most integrate graphics cards share system RAM, I’d be surprised if IC8 would even launch on the system you were asking about.

I’d also say IC8 feels a bit sluggish with anything under 16gb of system RAM. You could get by with 8gb but I think you’d be tearing your hair out if you got a laptop with only 4gb of RAM.
