The planned release date is November 2022 but of course this is subject to change as development is still ongoing.

It looks like BAD things are coming for MAC users. Reallusion will no longer support the MAC version starting from CA5.

After all the money I have invested in the pipeline version, content, plug-ins, etc, this really hurts, not only my pocket, but also all the time invested in learning the program.

Besides having to use a windows emulator, what other paths are available to MAC users?

Do we have to buy everything for Windows “all over again”  to be able to continue with future upgrades?

Hi Peter,
I had made up my mind that CA4 will be my last program from Reallusion.
Then, I see many great things in CA5.
They made me change my mind.

If you already have CTA4 for Mac then you will be able to upgrade to the Windows version of CTA5. The upgrade price will be the same for CTA4 Windows and Mac users.

All existing Plug-in Mocap Profiles for CTA4 will be upgraded to CTA5 versions for FREE. You will be able to redeem these once CTA5 launches.

I'm not sure what the "other products" you use are. Please explain more about these.

By other products, I was thinking of extra purchases and content. Also projects I have already created. But I imaging they should work since  all the files are cartoon animator format.

The sexy new features are nice but what I'm looking for is real production improvements like :
- curve editor
- in editor keyframe handles and interpolation control
- onion skinning to see before and after frames
- 3D view / motion trail feature for all actor bones, not just for the transform node
- possibility to scroll inside the timeline without the actual time marker moving (duh!)

There's more features I would like to see added, but I'll wait to see what's in the next sneak peek

A way to search for characters and assets is a real need. It’s hard to find things when you have a lot of stuff created and things purchased from the content and marketplace.

Hello everyone. Tell me, if I now upgrade to receive CTA 5 as a gift. Will I have the opportunity, as now, to be able to install the program on two devices? (PS and laptop) Or will there be a license for one device as a gift, and is it better to wait until the official release?

Peter (RL) will be able to tell you for certain, but I received another RL software is a gift because I bought enough content, and it was a normal license that I could install on two systems.

Thanks for explaining more. All the content you have purchased for CTA4 can still be used in CTA5. Likewise, your CTA4 projects should open fine in CTA5.

There are not really any paid plug-ins to upgraded.

Motion Live 2D will be built into CTA5 like we did with iClone 8. However, any profiles you have purchased such as Live Face will be updated to the CTA5 version for FREE.

Thanks Peter.
Yes, I meant Motion Live 2D and the Face3D Profile plugins I purchased.
Since we have until October 31st, this time will be enough to upgrade.

Is there going to be any changes to the timeline? I would like the key frame markers to be a bit bigger.

Hi, I have some questions about the new version:

Is it true that Motion live 2d will be a part of Cartoon Animator 5. So will I be able to use it without extra paying for it?

Will there be a way to use Mixamo animations without having to buy iClone just for conversion?

Thanks,
Hartmut

Hi Hartmut

The Motion LIVE 2D plug-in will be built into CTA5 so will no longer require separate purchase. However, you will still need to purchase mocap profiles for the hardware you plan to use (iPhone Live Face, Rokoko etc.). Any mocap profiles you have already purchased for CTA4 will get a FREE upgrade to the CTA5 version.

Regarding importing animations without iClone, this has not been confirmed yet. However, you will be able to use motion files from our own ActorCore library.

Will the ActorCore animations be available for Cartoon Animator without needing iClone? So will they be available for use in CTA right after download?

Hi Harmut

ActorCore motions and many other motion packs can already be used in Cartoon Animator 4 without iClone.

To use purchased ActorCore motions with CTA4 you just go to your Content Inventory below, click the Install.RLD link for the motions you want, and then choose CTA4 as the destination.

Hi...

Thanks for explaining more.

Cartoon Animator 4 already has Face Puppet the same as iClone and CrazyTalk so you can record facial animation in realtime. This will be the same in CTA5. In addition, you can also record facial animation in realtime using facial mocap. You can do this using just a webcam with Face3D or with an iPhone using Live Face.
By Scrooge - 3 Years Ago
Thank you Peter, that’s good news. :-)

Hi Peter,
following your advice I tested two ActorCore motions inside Cartoon Animator 4. I downloaded and installed them via the inventory list.
Unfortunately both motions do NOT work with Cartoon Animator. I tested all options of the 3D Motion importer with standard G3 360 figures of CTA4.
Parts of the bodies were chaotically contorted and there was no chance to fix it.

Could it be because you need iClone after all?

Kind regards
Hartmut

Not perfect but usable.   :-)

There is a spectacular price difference with iClone 8. Can you confirm the upgrade price from CA4 is just $99 ?

2D animations are much more popular on social networks like YouTube or TickTok than 3D. CA5 become a much more interesting software to produce top animated popular content than iClone.

But the technical challenge of developing 3D software is much bigger. That explains the higher price to me.

I think 2D and 3D animations each have their place and there is good and bad among both. It's not either or.

Hi Peter,

I have a question about CTA5:
A new feature of CTA5 is „changeable colors and styles“. You can see those properties being changed inside of CTA5. But this feature is mentioned in the context of vector animation.
Is this feature only available for self-created vector characters?
Or is it also available for the Reallusion standard characters and Campus Heroes etc?

Kind regards,
Hartmut

Hi Harmut

In CTA5 there will be two-character creation workflows. One for SVG (Vector) and the existing PSD workflow. Only SVG characters will support color grouping and color adjustment.

However, existing embedded characters like Martha, Philipp, Red and Roger will be updated to be SVG compatible along with the new CTA5 exclusive characters. You will also be able to update any custom characters you have to be SVG compatible if you have a SVG editor (Illustrator etc.). We will also look at updating some existing content packs to make them compatible with the new features of CTA5.

Hi Peter,

thank you for your reply.

I intended to get the free CTA5 upgrade by ordering various content from the Reallusion store. I thought about Campus Heroes but according to your reply they will not be made compatible with CTA5 when it arrives. So it is not a good idea to order them now, right?

How about the new CTA exclusive characters? Can you tell me more about them?

Kind regards
Hartmut

As we have done in previous major version upgrades there will be some new default CTA5 exclusive characters. For example, in CTA4 we had the new characters like Martha, Philipp, Red and Roger. CTA5 will see some new characters including Ariel and Johnny. These new SVG based characters come with a color template which show off the new easy to use Color Group Editor and Color Adjustment tools.

Johnny can be seen in the Vector Animation section of the Sneak Peek video below. :)

Hi Peter,

that looks great. 😊

Will the new vector based characters have a more flexible animation technology? For example when a CTA4 pixel-based character rotates the head, the nose sprite switches to the side view on a certain axis.
Will the vector based characters instead keep the same nose and just deform it in real-time according to the angle of rotation?

Kind regards
Hartmut

Sorry for adding an additional question ;-)

Will the vector based workflow with e.g. Affinity Designer be easier than the PSD workflow?

Kind regards

Hi Pierre,

CTA5 supports any "rlMotion" file, so if you output an "rlMotion" file from IC7, then CTA5 will support it.
