Hi looking at Iclone8, at first glance it looks amazing. But I have read some disturbing reports that the file sizes are drastically increased and the current systems are finding it difficult to manage the new software. So before I delve into purchases, only to be immensly disapointed yet again, does anyone know the realistic minimum spec a computer should be to use IC8 and CC4 to a reasonable standard.
Im asking before I go there because I must admit I have fallen prey to esome of Reallusions sales tactics in the past and thought I would do a little more investigating before hand.

The listed system requirements for iClone 8 are still not very satisfactory, especially the "minimum" ones, forget about those.

My recommended minimum would be a recent Intel i7 or i9 CPU, at least 32 GB of RAM, and a Series 30 Nvidia GPU (3070 or higher) with at least 8GB of RAM.

Some people want to use a laptop but that is really not recommended as you pay more for less capabilities.

I have been a Reallusion customer sincepretty much the beginning. Unfortunately, I was not able to take advantage ofthe upgrades that came with content purchases, as I already owned the content.I personally feel that the upgrade prices are a kick in the teeth. I am goingto give my future use of iClone and CC some thought, but doubt that I will beupgrading at the outrageous upgrade prices they are asking.

Considering bugs, massive issues with the newly imposed mandatory content manager and the huge upgrade price. I'm sticking with 7.

Hello, I can't afford IC 8 at the $499 member price. I did buy CC4 at the member price of $249 plus 10% coupon for using the trial version. So it cost me
less than $225 for CC4. If you can, at least buy CC4. The price is comparable to CC3 Pipeline, when using the member price and 10% coupon for
downloading the Trial version of CC4. You can create videos and use animation. It has some of the same features as IC8. For example, a mirror
and lens flare. You can create unlimited characters and bring in your CC3 avatars. At least you are in the game. You can't go wrong with CC4.

I use IC7 animation with CC4. I can collect clip to create longer animations.  You can send your IC7 props and CC3 clothes and hair to CC4.

some plugins like Replica Studio voice plugin is not yet made for ICLONE 8.    seems with the large file size and the PC requirements,  might be best to wait until these issues get resolved.   the PC requirements though would not change IMO

I stop using CC4 and IC8 because of the bugs:
1 - Import custom motions creates a 500MB file and making it a 30fps file creates a file with about 160MB where in 3DX was less than 20MB
2 - Broken import from DAZ.
3 - Supersized files (always more than 4GB) for a simple scene and without motions the size is about 40MB(!)
4 - Can't read Japanese/Chinese/etc. letters. It works in IClone 7.
5 - Messy Content Manager
6 - Some plugins don't work!
And other stuff (Feedbacktracker and in the forum)

I got some stuff for IC8 (the motion pack) and some CC4 stuff but for now without using it.
I got the end of the year promo and aswell for me until they fix those bugs it's not good to wok with. I'm using IC7 only

Replica is available for iClone 8, and so are a number of other plugins. If you check your plugin inventory you will see which ones already have an iClone 8 version.

Developers need time to update the plugins, but most are working on it. They have the option to inform their customers but some don't or don't know how to do that.

There are a lot of problems. I don’t find most of the bugs or any general performance to be high on the list. Both CC4 and iClone8 do crash like it’s their job, those bugs are very off putting. The previous versions crashed, but this is another level. Some things are also still half baked - motion director has you cough up 200 bucks at full price for running and pedestrian motions, and meanwhile it’s fairly laggy to use, doesn’t work with custom motions yet, doesn’t respect terrain, and is a bit less than user friendly.

However, disk space is super cheap, it runs as well or better on my hardware than the previous versions in most cases, and the array of little animation tool improvements are game changing. If I load up the previous versions now, I’m quickly reminded that the experience before was much different than I’m normally able to recall.

Say nothing about going back to avoid some of the new issues or immature features - you couldn’t pay me on top of that to go back. Animating and character creating is just too much more enjoyable and efficient, regardless of the bumps.

I think iClone 8 is worth having - the file sizes are indeed a problem but I suspect the devs will fix that issue.

I can't say the same for CC4 - it looks to not have been tested at all.  In particular Transformer is trash - just won't work at all.  I don't see any huge improvements to it if you have iClone and CC3.

Hi Kelley I found a work around the transformer tool where as I found To just import the character through basic and import the clothing through Obj import.
The reason for this is Transformer since CC3 has not been good with textures. You can not import the original textures from daz and have them be accurate in CC3 or cc4. It is better to just import the character with morphs separate from the clothing. Use skin gen for your character textures and import the clothing through the create accessory function. When you import the the clothing it comes straight from daz via obj with out the transformer tool destroying the textures. You can then go into the daz directory and bring all those textures in and have your character look of more of what you have in daz then the flatness you get using the transfomer tool.

I stopped using the transformer tool for bringing in clothing and the character textures back in CC3. The trans former tool is limited especially when you are dealing with Unreal Engine. I am working on a full video tutorial on the process I do. They need to fix the transformer tool and also the content manager as well. With the higher price it should do better that the last version of the software . Added new features don't mean nothing if it can not add productivity to a pipeline.https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/809717c3-6e6a-40ce-8729-cb15.jpghttps://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/692c537e-0868-4dc7-a3fc-d0af.jpghttps://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/5c49161d-139b-4468-960c-25a7.jpg

The Next Images Are Characters Made In CC3/ CC4 That are mostly done by the method I described. The point i am getting at that For the price I paid for CC4 and Iclone are not Justified Some of the new things Introduce is more like sugar put in Urine and hoping it taste like lemonade. I am disappointed and hope in the future that Any releases of Iclone and Character Creator are carefully  Tested for functionality. So i own it now and i will make due with what I have bought But i am Looking at going back to Poser 12.

No, actually Transformer DOES bring in all the textures in CC3 - I even wrote the code to do it.  So it's MUCH more effective to use it than trying to bring in and fit the clothing any other way.

Agreed, I cannot comment on CC4 ,( not upgrading) , but  CC3
pipeline works just fine with every Daz Character I have used from Genesis 1-8.
There are some issues with alot of Daz hairs turning all white when sent from CC3 to iclone 7
however that does not matter to me as they all export to Blender correctly ,via the pipeline tool, and that is where I actually render everything.

What plugin ??its the Transformer tool in CC3 pipeline:D

Well why come when i bring in daz characters with clothing the textures from the clothing Like -Ao maps, Normal maps, Metallic and Roughness maps never come over. But i will do a live stream to see in real time to see if this working. I mean i have already done it but i will see in real time if it brings in all the textures over.

I will add my 2 cents, which, for inflation, would be worth about 4 cents, which maybe means it’s true diluted value is 1 cent.
But that’s neither here nor there nor anywhere…
To me CC4 and iC8 add much needed functionality as far as character animation goes.
It is first class and UI friendly making it a monster tool to have in your animation arsenal.

Consider that UE5 has issues and bugs present since release, but carries unmatched new innovations. So, you can avoid UE5 bugs in UE4, but then not have any of the advancements that UE5 brings. Such is the case in iC8 and CC4. Keep in mind a workarounds can within minutes in cases bypass issues. Ie - use Transformer in CC3, then save project and open in CC4. Optimal? No. But doable? Yes.

Because at the end of the day you could use older versions but then produce technically sub-par versions of what otherwise is being created elsewhere. It is your choice, but I recommend updating and using the newer versions along side your prior versions, if anything.
The advancements are an advantage.
If you want to take your talent to the next level, you can optimize that journey into it. Think of all the individuals that use vastly different methods to achieve their goals.

PS - this is not meant to convince anyone, but rather offer a perspective to the reader. When everything is “fixed”, you, and everyone else, will have access to the same toolset. Meaning, everything is updated for everyone, not just you. This means if you sit and wait until it’s perfect, someone else always will be 3-4 steps ahead of you because they simply advanced their talent. This is a definite opportunity to advance your talent.

BUY them!

Thanks for the feedback. We are sorry to hear of your disappointment. Here are some updates to the points raised.

1. We will try to solve this problem by the next major update (8.1)
2. Should be resolved already in the 4.02 update released yesterday.
3. We will try to solve this problem by the next major update (8.1)
4. To prevent pipeline compatible issues, we need to set up this limitation.
5. We will continue look at ways to improve Smart Content Manager.
6. Most Plug-ins have been updated already and are working correctly. Plug-ins like Motion Link will be updated when CTA5 releases.

Hi Mike... The 4.02 update should have fixed most if not all of the Transformer issues. Have you had time to test it yet? Please let us know your thoughts?

@Peter Thanks for the feedback!
Transformer now is useful and I am using it. CC4 woks so much better now.
Waiting for the 8.1 update.

Yes, CC4 Transformer works better now that someone (ahem, modesty forbids) has tested and provided feedback.

But the texture imports are still broken - I'm working on a Python routine to fix it but in the meantime folks will need to do extra work that did not used to be needed.  It's not horrible but there's no real reason why it stopped working.

Hey everyone. I noticed that once IC8 and CC4 came out, 3DXchange stopped working correctly. I still have IC7 because 8 kept crashing, but when i import Mixamo motions into 3DX, it doesn't work right.. Oddly enough, I can import the FBX file into IC7 directly, but it comes in as a prop.... Any suggestions to work around this? Or is realluison aware of this bug?  Thanks for your help. :)

I have IC8 and IC4 installed, as well as IC7 and for me 3DXchange works.

Every FBX file imported is considered a prop, even if it is a character. It is just that 3DXchange has profile information for a number of formats (DAZ, Maximo, etc.) that allows the imported file to be converted to a non-standard character.
