Bootcamp for Reallusion?

Hello, i want to purchase a mac and use bootcamp to run windows to use Iclone 8 and CC.  Can that be done and does anyone recommend a decent mac to have it work well?  Thanks for any info

Hi...

Bootcamp will likely allow you to run Windows apps like iClone on a Mac but you will still need a Mac that meets the requirements for iClone 8. That is you really need a mid to high end recent graphics card (preferably Nvidia) with at least 6 - 8GB of dedicated onboard video ram. You also need a Mac with an Intel processor for Bootcamp which rules out recent models which come with the Apple M1 processor.

Personally if you are buying a computer primarily for iClone and Character Creator then I would recommend going for a Windows machine to start with rather than a Mac.

I ran iClone under Bootcamp for many years with success but eventually I was unable to keep up with the display-card requirements. As my MAC Pro would not allow me to upgrade to the display card I really needed. And Parallels never ran iClone very reliably.

Why no iClone for Mac osx? I realize that Macs still don't have the market share that Windoze boxes do, but given that a lot of creatives use macs wouldn't iClone be a good fit? Just asking because those of that use macs probably can't justify buying a mid-range to high-end PC just for iclone. Also, Reallusion supports Mac on their other software. Why not Iclone. Thanks for listening.

I can't recommend particular models but a good setup for iClone 8 and CC4 would include the following:-


Intel i7 or i9 CPU
16GB RAM Minimum (Higher Preferred)
Graphics Card: Nvidia RTX 2070, 2080, RTX 3060, 3070, 3080, 3090
Display Resolution: 1920 x 1080 or higher.
Video Memory: 6GB RAM (higher recommended).
Win 10 or Win 11 64-bit operating system.

No OSX support for NVIDIA graphic cards which Iclone and omniverse requires for best performance, would be my guess.

It's really down to the development work required to port iClone and CC over to Mac OSX. It's not a simple job by any means and would be like starting development from scratch. The size of the development team would also likely need to double to make this a viable option. This is why many AAA game companies hire Mac specialist developers like Aspyr Media to port popular games to Mac because of the work required.

If you are looking for a "cheap" way to run iClone, forget a laptop.

The absolute best "cheap" way to run iClone is a desktop PC.  You will still need a high-end graphics card - and Pete is WAY too low with memory (nowadays I would NOT run iClone 7 or 8 without 8gb of video ram, and really 12GB is the smallest buy in).  Ideally you'd have a 3080 or 3090 card, although my 3070 used to run 7 pretty well.

Laptops that are inexpensive will have neither the GPU nor the power needed - minimum buy in would be something like 2K (and 3K would be more likely).  A desktop PC can be put together yourself for as little as $500 (but then add the GPU - you could still keep it under $1200, though, I *think* - haven't priced low end GPUs for a LONG time now).

Best deal would be something with an RTX 3080Ti, which is like an RTX 3090 but with 12GB instead of 24GB of VRAM. GPU prices are failing so some attractive offerings should be coming up.

And yes, go for a desktop. Better value and easier to fix and expand.
