I think that paying money to get AGAIN an update of Iclone and Character creator is total disrespect to those people who had to save up to buy Iclone 7 and Character creator 3. I know that producing something is expensive, but one is not a fortune teller and no one can predict if you have to pay twice for what you buy.

I only hope that those who have Iclone 7 and CC3 are not left out, if so, it would be a total joke.

The free update that is a joke. Never in my life I have seen a free upgrade that forces you to pay more than what Iclone and CC 3 cost

If you continue with this business, many users will leave you and will no longer trust you. And it is good to know that a company exists because people buy from them.

I have been waiting for the opening of the project for exatly 45 minutes. When the counting comess to end, there is no movement. The software was frozen. Iclone 7 opens the same file in 2 minutes. Unfortunately, under these conditions, I will not be able to continue my project with I clone 8. So sad for me.. Maybe there are another bugs but i can't open it yet :(

I think it's important to remember that iClone 7 has been out 7 years and every upgrade from 7.0 to 7.93 was free. At some point a new major version has to be released that requires additional purchase. We do understand that it is frustrating if you only purchased in the last year or so. That is why we ran promotions enabling you buy content or other software and get a free copy of iClone 8 and/or CC4. We also offer an upgrade discount for existing users who wish to upgrade to iClone 8 and CC4 so you don't have to pay full price again.

I purchased Iclone 7 and 3DFX Pipeline, bundled with character creator and also Hit Film Pro in 2016 for a price of $499 (plus vat and currency exchange).

Hit Film pro cost at the time around 199. So the rest cost me 300 (give or take).

Fast forward to 2022 and the upgrade price is $599 and I no longer get Hit Film nor do I get 3DFX, although I'm told this is bundled in with IC and CC, which to be honest, is status quo, as it's kinda bundled in now with ic7. At least some of the features are.

Long story short, ic8 looks cool, but the upgrade price is too high considering the further costs of plugins and content that is really necessary to get decent results from ic8.

I was expecting 399 at most. 599 (plus vat) is over 700 dollars. And that's a lot for an upgrade price that is essentially the cost of entry.

I'm out, the upgrade price is too much for me, given the current economic conditions I find myself in, and I'm ok with that.

Reallusion owe me nothing and I in return owe them nothing.

I'm sure I will pick this up in a sale in a year or two, when money is less tight. But for a hobby, I can't justify the outlay at the moment.

But there is no point throwing your toys out the pram.

I also bought IC7 and CC3 during holiday sale 2021 that offer me Free copy of IC8 and CC4 and I alreay qualify for that free copy as I spend more then 1200$ on reallusion product during this period but now IC8 and CC4 release and Still waiting for my free copy, they only show me upgrade offer and it seems like I cheated by reallusion offer

I understand your position. However, I've spent a lot on addons for Iclone 7. So, I would have to purchase a bundle that I don't need to get Iclone 8 and CC4. It's hard to be a loyal customer to Reallusion. I might have to say good bye!

Well, I don't see any point in spending years having to pay more than double to get Iclone 8 and CC4.

With the fact that years have passed for the free versions... epic games released many versions of unreal engine 4 and the version of unreal engine 5 is still free

So angry. I bought iclone7, Cc3, and Headshot for a bundle price of $599 i believe november 2021. I went extra and purchased Iray and the Kinnect plugin. I only had the money because the death of a loved one. Now, less than a year later, I missed out on the bundles, and now have to pay another $600 for an upgrade, with some things that should have been included in ic7 and cc3 in which I already paid. Not even a real discount. No consideration for existing customers that already paid. I could have just spent $1200 on 3dsmax. Can't we at least get a discount? I would think $400 for both is reasonable.

With respect, nobody charges for point release updates in the software game. When people own version 7.0, the expectation is they will receive version 7.1 as part of their purchase. Framing those updates as "free" is a stretch. Your customers purchased IC7 at different stages during its lifecycle. Had you charged for the point release updates, have a guess how that would have gone down.

Again, your use of "free" is unreasonable when the catch is that people need to buy a ton of junk they don't need. Like a car salesman offering "free" mechanical service worth $800 for buyers of new cars, but only if they buy $800 worth of car cleaning products. "But you get to keep the car cleaning products" is not of interest or value to most people.

$599 upgrade is a hard pass. Perhaps you are not gaining much interest from new users, so have turned to existing customers to fill the sales void. Hopefully down the road the upgrade price will be set to a reasonable level for those who purchased IC7.

I was sad and shocked to see the upgrade price of $599 ! I've spent thousands and thousands as a loyal Iclone/CC user yet it's becoming out of reach for the average user.
There are some cool features but the price is gonna make a lot of people reconsider. I would say $399 is the max but $299 sounds more like a fair upgrade price for both packages. . .

I have the same problem. I bought more than enough content to qualify for the upgrades. I confirmed the upgrades on your site last year. But I have plugin upgrades but no software upgrades.

I'm confused with all the hate on paying for a new version.
iClone 7 and CC3 still operate and work exactly as you purchased them and no one is forcing you to upgrade. These version are not going to be taken off you, So you still own what you paid for?
If you purchased a new car last week and a new model came out this week would you complain to the car dealer for charging you again for the latest one? I can't believe all you people complaining.

Think we are pretty lucky RL doesn't force subscriptions.

A car and software are 2 different things, and not everyone that uses this software is rich. We spend our hard earned money to use it, only to find out the amount we spends means nothing, we have to double it to upgrade. If I knew it was coming I wouldn't have purchased iclone7, which doesn't even work as advertised. It doesn't even have industry standards of IRay and 1/2 the featured don't work right. So why should we have to pay full price for them to fix it?

So far, I've only played around with CC4, but I think the "upgrades" you're getting at least in CC4 make it virtually a new product. You can set a scene and animate your character in place (though you can't modify the animation itself, or at least I didn't find a way). You can make all the adjustments you need to make during individual animation frames, which is amazing for correcting morphs and meshes. Let's not even mention what a leap forward the new models and expressions are, and how powerful the ability to import custom characters and morphs is. I completely understand it's frustrating to need to spend money to get the newest goodies (oh, I so very much understand), and Reallusion content is quite pricey in general, so this feels excessive. But we've known this since each of us started using Reallusion's software and content, and we've stuck with it. Furthermore, it's not like CC3 and IC7 are discontinued and you have to upgrade. Also, we've known the prices of the upgrades for well over six months. I know not everyone reads everything that gets put in marketing material, but I feel Reallusion was above board from the start and it's weird to see all the rage quits and the threats of rage quits about what is effectively old news.

I think it'd be a nice gesture if Reallusion did reduce the price of the upgrade, but I don't think the current pricing structure is outrageous either. I was one of those who took a deep breath, cried a bit, and spent a ton of cash on enough content to get the upgrade for "free." I was actually preparing myself to be disappointed and regret my decision ... but even what I've seen so far just in CC4 (the animation preview / adjustment is huge for me, but there is also volumetric lighting, which is beautiful, and reflective surfaces without needing to go to iRay, and even small touches like adding an export to .iAvatar button next to the send to iClone button, a better way to organize assets, etc. and who knows what else I haven't discovered in the couple of hours I messed around with it so far)... I'm not disappointed, and I'm finding both what I spent on content and the wait were worth it.

A car is always a poor simile when referencing computers. I think Bill Gates tried that a number of yours ago and was taken to task by the automotive Industry.

But okay, let's run with your idea for the moment.

In this case we all bought the same car, but some of us brought the Premium version (Pipeline) and others bought the Basic Model. Both of us could drive places, but the premium model could do some fancy stuff (cruise control, self parking) and that was fine because the basic model did the basic job we needed it to do, it just meant that some of us had to work harder to drive to where we wanted to go, and park on our own when we got there.

Moving on to present day and we find there is only going to be the option of buying a Premium version of this car. The basic model will no longer be available. It's now Premium or nothing.

Okay, like you said, we all still own our previous car, basic or premium, and we can all go on using that to drive about. Not a problem. Except that it is.

If we need to get any extras for our car, to keep it going, we may find in the future that such things are now only compatible with the modern version of our car and won't work with our old banger. Imagine if you bought a car, and in 3 years time and the air conditioning need a service, but now the parts are not made anymore and the new parts you could buy are not compatible with your old car. Okay, you can drive with the window open (mostly), but what if they oil needs changing and the company no longer makes a compatible brand for your old model.

You see what I mean?

As iC8 becomes the dominant life form in this eco system (just to update the simile slightly), then less add and less add on packs or content will work in full, or at all, with iC7.

I still keep iC6 on my computer, mostly because there are assets that won't work in iC7 that I own, but I can export them via iC6 and sometimes 3DFX and get them to work inside iC7.

So yes, we can all still work with iC7, but eventually, in the very near future, content will become very difficult to source directly from RL, leaving us searching 3rd parties for content. One of the first casualties will probably be Python scripted plugins.

iC8 looks like a beast of a program, but at the moment the price is too high for an upgrade. Way to high. Even higher once I factor in VAT.

What I see when I put this in my basket (about 690 Euros for me)!

Hi all,
I agree with the upgrade price being way too high at only a 100$ less than the full price.
Also the argument, that incremental Iclone7 or CC3 releases have been free, is not true either because key blocks of functionality have only been available as seperate purchases.. It is especially frustrating when you then see those extra pieces of functionality rolled into the next release and you are asked to pay for them again.
Personally I will wait for the price to come down and in the meantime I will be learning Unreal 5, which is free by the way. That at least gives me an alternative where I don't have to wade through marketing, exclusive content packs and special deals to get to the core functionality.

Not entirely true.

Steinberg charges for 0.5 updates for Cubase. A point 0.5 update is normally about £45. A whole point update is £85.
Now they release a 0.5 every other year and a whole point in the inbetween year. so you pay £130 every two years.

I bought iClone 7 when it came out in 2017. (then promptly won iClone 6 in a competition). So it is 5 years since I last payed for a release. (or £300 in Cubase payment years).

Maybe Reallusion need to release cheaper and more often to hide the expense over a period of time?

Reallusion is making money everytime someone purchases DA points. Reallusion is making money on software. They make tons of money daily. The subscription is not necessary, nor is the exorbitant cost to upgrade.

they did a really great job on the new features and they work great. well done reallusion!!!
finally we can update the expressions with zbrush much easier and faster than before and so much more

if you use it as a professional you should buy it , if not then you dont need it , because iclone 7 is great too

I purchased eligible content packs in line with your promotion last year and I checked and recheched that purchase qualifies me for the free upgrade, but i am not seeing any serial numbers or activation options for iclone 8 and cc4 just the plugins.

I'm not pointing fingers here but I see a lot of hate and criticism aimed at RL's pricing. Sure it's high but maybe it's a sign that you need to do what i did; Firstly stop complaining and your head will clear. Secondly, monetize your hobby. I've been using RL products since 2019 and i must have spent close to $5000 (maybe even more) on software and assets. One thing I'm sure about is that since i started monetizing my hobby, all RL expenses have been paid back, with interest (i bought this very PC with proceeds from using RL software).

In short, this software you're hating on pays for itself. Just change your mindset and the money will follow. I know I'm stepping on toes but this is the truth. Continue using iC7 and CC3, and monetize. Try it if you dont believe me. You'll thank me later.

How did you monetize it? I create content in the marketplace, and am working on a full length feature movie in IC7 which is about 1/3rd done. what else do you suggest?

Those are steps in the right direction. More content creation if you can. I've heard of, but personally know nothing, about making money via youtube and other social media sites, so i stick to what i know best - local television stations in my country.
You could try music videos, game creation, posters, book covers, comic books, 3D printing of models, or even printing on t-shirts/caps. The list is just endless. Just be creative, don't limit yourself. Even the movie you mentioned, create merchandise. Most of all, don't do it for the money. Let your passion lead you, and money will follow.
