HI guys its me yet again. Im trying to enhance my project by trying something new. I was looking at a few tutorials on YouTube about morph sliders and morph creator. Im trying to get my charatcer who is wearing the assasins hood and coat to push back the hood to show her face. Now unfortunately the tutorials i found didnt really help too much because they basically only morph basic characters etc. They also take the obj into maya which i dont have. Itried to adapt it a little to take my obj into Blender (for obvious reasons, ITS FREE) but its been a while since i used it so yet again I looked on youtube onhow to use a lattice deform in Blender, save each step of the hood motion and then tried to put it into morph creator. BUT i cant get it to work. My hood now does some weird and wonderful things with the vertices that I cant figure out why it would do it.. Here are some images when i slide the morph sliders over in morph creator. and I can supply the files im using if anyone needs them to see if anyone can figure out why this is happening

Seems like a pretty smple motion to try but it does give a little more depth to my character and I can use the motion again in reverse to enhance another part of my story later on. Can anyone please help. Maybe a different approach would be better, I dont know. Just thought it would look really cool. Many thanks

Just a very general thought but remember that morphs move verts in a straight line to each position. So, for example, if you have a square you want to morph into a circle just using two morphs (the square and circle) won't work because what will happen is the morphs of the corners of the square will just move directly outward. You would need several morphs (maybe a LOT) to transition properly.
For your hood movement I would think at the very least you'll need at least four or five morphs - perhaps as many as 10. It's a complicated movement to pull back a hood (or vice versa) and to get all the various in-between positions. Remember that a morph isn't "clever" and if you keep that in mind you can create the right intermediate ones.

so if i create more morph points do you think it would workk I have about 4 so far but I will try more and give you a heads up if it works

You have 4 and still have those weird results? Hmmm, no, it shouldn't go outward like that.
I would first try a morph with a tiny change of position and see how it's moving through that.

tried 10 morphs and its still doing it. this is with just moving a couple of sliders If i was to use all of them it goes way off

Well, you really ought to be only moving one morph at a time (IOW, you go from Morph1 at 0% to Morph1 at 100% and then leave it like that going from Morph2 at 0% to 100%, etc. etc. Eventually all the morphs will be at 100%). But aside from that I don't know what to tell you (I've never created my own morphs, just used ones that were already created and they worked fine).

Yeh tried it and its a real mess. Ill have to either give up on the idea or find another way of doing it. Shame that RL doesnt do some of the simpler motions in an easier fashion without having to use multiple software

This is as close as I could get using a Daz Hood with morphs supplied. I suspect that if I altered just ONE of those morphs a bit it would work just fine, but I'm no Blender guy and I don't have the time to try. But it's a proof of concept that it WILL work.

1. Prior to making even a single morph, you have to test your mesh. I have faced some cases (even for decently made outfit as it seemed), where morph is impossible to apply because of mesh errors.
Export item to OBJ from Morphs Creator and import same OBJ right back as a slider. If you do not get this message and obj goes in as a slider, the item geometry has errors.

And the slider would most likely produce the result you have pictured. (fixing the broken mesh geometry is a different story)
2. Then Blender Import/Export settings are critical. It goes as following.
OBJ Import:

OBJ Export:
Try it with a single test morph, before you go a head and do some consecutive morphs (which is another story).
I have a tut for making multiple morphs in Blender but it is outdated for older version of Blender and I would have changed a lot of things now in the routine: https://youtu.be/lPKkOf3IYZI

Thanks for that info, but i think the hood i purchased from marketplace must not be made very well. The verts are still all over the place so I may have to look into DAZ. Is the hood a purchased item if so is it easy to find? Never used DAZ before so it looks likeit may be another software Ill have to look into and see if its feasable to use that instead of maya and Blender.Im definitely not very good with either of those but i did find a tutorial using Maya for the morph positions but again i dont know how to use it so I didnt try it. But I do think the hood is the problem. ANd your hood would suit my character just as good if not better. Thanks for the help.

If i purchased this hood from the DAZ sight would i be able to use it in iclone if i put it into CC3 and created it as an accessory and then turned it into cloth in the usual way Not sure what the format would come as. (e.g. obj, fbx etc)

That Hood IS from Daz and brought over via Transformer into CC3.
You can use almost any Daz item in iClone but if you have any doubts at all about it let me know and I can check it out (since I have most of what is available from Daz or at least can get it). That particular hood I used had the morphs already and it's hard to find that - I checked out at least five others that did not. But if Mr. G is correct then it's just a matter of getting a "good" mesh and nearly all of them from Daz are (so you could create your own).
Check out the Daz site and type in "Hood" or "Hoodie" and you'll see the dozens that are available.

whats transformer? never heard of that.
ooohhhhppppssss!!!!!!! found it its at the top of CC3 to the right but never used it thats why i didnt know what it was LOL The Daz hood im looking at is this one https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-hooded-outfit-for-genesis-8-females Im assuming thats the one I need to buy.

Yeah, that's the one I was using. As I said, it probably needs you to create one more morph between the up and down morphs it has, but it shouldn't be difficult.
If you get it and get stuck using it let me know (when using Daz make sure you export the morphs in the FBX. I have tutorials showing this process. Then they come over with the clothing using Transformer).

Thank you so much for your help. I did figure it out (sort of) by using Maya instead of blender. Im not very good with maya but i looked at a couple of tutorials that helped. BUT. now i have fallen in love with your hood accessory so I have purchased it and will now look at trying to get it into iclone. Ill have to look into DAZ has their seems to be loads of items I can use so it would be beneficial to look into getting it. I may need to take you up on your offer for some help on how to get the hood into iclone but ill look at it as soon as I can.
Many many thanks again for your help you are a Diamond

Hi bro Im really sorry to be a pain. I think you said you have or have seen a tutorial on how to get the hood from DAZ into iclone. I have now installed DAZ (Pretty impressed i must say) and bought the hood outfit. But because Im unsure of how to use DAZ i cant figure out how to get it into Iclone so I can morph it. I dont know if you morphed it in DAZ and also the way i bought it into CC3 the materials didnt come over with it, which is unfortunate because I kind of liked that texture. If you could help me out with a tutorial to get it from DAZ into iclone and morph it, I would be for ever in your debt. Becasue DAZ clothes are pretty good, i'm gonna be buying loads in the future and this step would be crucial for my current and new projects.
I cant thank you enough for your help so far. Definitely going in the right direction now. Thank you Nick

Hi Kelleytoons. Just wanted to let you know my progress. I couldnt figure out DAZ morphs so i imported it into maya and did the morph stages theiras I have tried in the past. Ill leave you a little animation to show my problems. 1. Obviously for some reason the textures didnt come in which i would like 2. When i brought it into CC3 and iclone 7 I had to ajust some weight issues that didnt work 3. and overall the verts look very faceted whereas yours lookd smooth and clean Your images were the bomb and looked just like what i needed so any help would be appreciated.

Morphs are pretty good.
To smooth the mesh use Modify > Edit Normals > AutoSmooh in Character Creator while hood is selected.
Now the bad... The mesh got ripped at the bottom. Not sure how you managed to do that :) You probably want to redo it...
Mike should be able explain the rest related to DAZ...
