An Insane Amount Of Potential (3d models)

***Long Post Warning**

For many years I have been trying to export 3d models from the game GTA V with no avail.  Mainly because the 3d models used in the game are in a weird format that was unable to be converted to FBX.  Well, after many years of trying I h have FINALLY figured it out.

With GTA V you can get an insane amount of 3d models that you can use with iClone.  The modding community take it a step further.  Here is a small example...

Look at all these realistic shoes I can now use with iClone.

I downloaded many of these files from https://www.gta5-mods.com/

HOWEVER... please realize you simply cannot go to the web page and download what you want and expect it to work.  It is kind of a hassle to export 3d models from the game.  You can grab anything from vehicles... clothes, weapons, props, even buildings and aircraft. There are hundreds of real vehicles and aircraft you can choose from.

I have not gotten into downloading car models yet because when you download the models it comes with collisions, occuluders, damage morphs, etc.  Not only that it comes with only 1 wheel.  I need to learn more on how to make this work for iClone but hopefully, someone here on the forum can figure it out.

You can also grab a ton of clothes as well.  However converting them to CC3 is not impossible, it is just time consuming.

So you see, there is a massive amount of potential here to gain new assets to use with your iClone projects.  However one thing to remember, this was a pain in the rear but I eventually figured it out (with lots of help from Youtube and Github).  I wanted to share this info with you so hopefully, we can get additional folks on here to get into this sort of thing as well.

NOTE:  You NEED to own a copy of GTA V on PC (I got mine from steam)

I personally like the idea of having my characters wearing chains.  However I am not very good with weight maps... so they work but will need to be weighted properly.

ONE LAST THING... OBVIOUSLY THESE MODELS WERE DEVELOPED AND OWNED BY ROCKSTAR GAMES.  YOU CANNOT USE THESE MODELS FOR COMMERCIAL USAGE.  ONLY PERSONAL USAGE.  JUST FYI.

Great post,  thank you for sharing,  and an excellent example of why I say the future of 3D models is over saturation.  No, you can't use these models commercially ,  but retopo is a thing. I'm waiting for the day for someone to say in a crowded theater, "Stop the movie!!  those are MY shoes!!"

Thanks, the modding community for this particular game is really good.  There are so many models you can acquire from this game.  I really like some of the clothes in this game so i will eventually be exporting those.  The cars in this game are fantastic.  Even damage morphs where if you hit something, it will appear as if the car is damaged.
