What about Speedtree content?

Hi everyone, am new to this IClone world and am full of questions, but for now i'll just ask this apparently simple one: I read about the "new" Speedtree content included years ago with IClone, but when i opened it i could only find a few trees and bushes, and no trace of butterflies, flying bugs, fences, as mentioned in the online manual and i could only find the IClone planty text and thought it was like a demo thing, and couldn't figure out any way to modify the text to put my own.
So...is it been deleted? Is it still there and i'm dumb? Please help if you can :)

I have so many questions about Character Creator 3 and IClone, i wish there was a proper course online, but i can only fnid a few useful tutorial on youtube and some other very confusionary for a new user like me. If you know of any other good video sources where to learn how to use properly these softwares i would be so grateful!

Hi...

Speedtrees were introduced in iClone 6 about 7 years ago so they are not really new.

With iClone 7 you get a selection of trees to get started, but the full collection of Speedtrees are available in a purchasable add-on pack which is linked below.

https://www.reallusion.com/ContentStore/iClone/pack/Botanical_World/

To help you get used to Speedtrees, please see the Speedtree Basics tutorial below.

Finally if you are looking to learn iClone please take a look at our Learning Centre below. This provides lot's of short tutorials, but if you are completely new to iClone you will find the Webinars particularly helpful as they are slower paced and explain features like scene building etc. in more detail.

This seems to be a good opportunity to request (again) an update to Speedtrees.

As Peter mentioned, they are several years old, and their quality isn't really up to snuff with the other high quality content we now enjoy. Also the inability to customize them is limiting their usefulness.

Agreed.

Thank you so much, i hadn't noticed the webinar section! That seems the perfect point to start from :)
About Speedtree i totally agree with animagic, the quality of those trees seems pretty outdated and would benefit from an update. Also, even in that video tutorial you posted i still haven't found how to customize the planty text and where to find flybugs, butterflies and fences. They don't seem to be in the botanical world pack neither.

The butterflies and insects are from the bonus content when you buy Total Plants 2. I purchased them
last year.  iClone content - Total Plants 2 - Botanical World - 3d model (reallusion.com)

SpeedTree 9 just came out. What of it, RL?

$20 a month just to make trees?
Also, if your income exceeds $100k and is under $1M, it asks for $1000 per year
It's unclear how much they'll want if $1M passes, they'll want to exploit you for life for using their tree.
Unless you're thinking of putting the trees on the fashion show, that's really ridiculous :)
You can create hundreds of trees and plants very easily and quickly with the UE quixel library
Honestly, I wouldn't even pay $1 for them.
They really think they deserve this money.
This should have been a cheap one-pay-only plugin.

By the way, it's not the SpeedTree products that are sold in the market I'm talking about.
I found the link of the program that produces these trees from the video and commented on the price of the program.

i've thought of adjusting tree textures also,  but considering that speedtree is a 3rd party content developer,  RL may be restricted to contractual agreements -  otherwise they've let us customize all their own content,  so this may be something we'd have to bang on speedtree's door about lol

RL uses a SpeedTree derivative that is in need of an update. There have been various ST-related entries in the Feedback Tracker, some dating back almost five years ago.

As it is now, we don't have a good tree system. It doesn't render properly in Iray and it can't be exported to, for example, Omniverse.

The characters you can create look better and better and in comparison the trees look (kind of) sub-par.

Of course we'll probably get the usual answer "It's not in the planning", but it should. The solution doesn't have to be SpeedTree, as long it's something that looks better.

I agree, the tree package sold in the market does not have an export and there seems to be a problem with the number of quality trees in iClone.
It looks like 3rd party vendors haven't made a work plan regarding this either

honestly,   the details on the trees for me are not very important - i've learned to shake the camera and add a lut to make everything look realer heh.   The real trick is to make a shot look consistent -  if you just use the basic raw shot that shows a variety of qualities in props / trees and characters -  then it looks bad but if you do some uniform effect over your whole scene then it looks natural.

for the most part unless it's a game breaking change that I need,  i always look for workarounds against stuff like this and people that want to value their product based around your income.
