How to remove eyebrow from an Elite Character?

I based my character design on one of the Elite Characters (which are CC3 instead of CC3+, but I didn't know. It turned out that I couldn't remove the eyebrow when applying make-up. PLEASE give a reminder that "it's not CC3+" for future users so they won't feel as tragic as I am).

I really really don't want to re-do everything from scratch. Is it possible to remove the eyebrow anyway?

Thanks.

For many characters the eyebrows are part of the skin texture of the face; this is unrelated to whether it is a CC3 or CC3+ character. So you did not make a bad purchase that you should feel tragic about.

In CC3, you can convert a CC3 to a CC3+ character, this will not change the texture, but it will make the newer features available.

The presence of the eyebrows as part of the face texture does indeed pose an issue if you want to add eyebrows via make-up or as hair item. I usually adjust the shape so that the original eyebrows are covered. Another option is to edit the eyebrows out of the face texture, but that is not so straightforward.

I mostly create characters using Headshot, in which case it's easy to edit the eyebrows in the original face texture.

There may be better solutions, but I can't think of any off-hand.

How many reminders do you need?

Every character generation is well marked throughout the software.

Thanks, but I just began to use this product two days ago.

Thank you so much!

Do you have the premium version of SkinGen? If so, you can remove the eyebrows with SkinGen's tools. I've done it on a couple of characters. There is a RL webinar (lightside maybe?) where Kai had an issue with the eyebrows. I can't remember if he shows how to use the SkinGen tools to remove them or if I figured that out on my own.

If you have SkinGen Premium and aren't able to figure out how to do it, let me know and I can put something together for you. I'll try to remember next time I'm on my CC3 machine.

Miles, I would be interested to know this as well, as I'm not familiar with using SkinGen for this purpose.

I would definitely like to know.
I cannot delete the hair, beard and eyebrows of the characters I created with Headshot.
I don't want to mess with Photoshop.

I was half asleep when I submitted this around 3 am. So, if something doesn't make sense or you need some clarification let me know.

Ok, so the key to this is a range mask that you get with SkinGen Premium.

Start with the default CC3+ Avatar > Activate the SkinGen Editor > Navigate to the Makeup Tab

Right-click on the Eyebrow layer > Hover over Merge Down > Click Current Material

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/766b5cde-d763-48f2-a4f6-6023.png

You'll then get a popup asking you what texture size you want to bake into the base texture. Here I choose the 2K texture and click ok.

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/ea33000a-9774-47f6-9562-7d72.png

Click OK on the second popup.

You'll notice the Eyebrow layer has disappeared from the Makeup Editor and has now been baked into the base texture.

Using the Makeup & SFX pack

(If you don't have this pack scroll down to Using the Eyebrow Tool)

Now let's add the Curved Sparse eyebrows from the Makeup & SFX pack. This can be done by either double-clicking on the icon or by clicking and dragging it onto the avatar.

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/4f21b3d8-8447-4615-8de6-dc47.png

You'll now have a new Eyebrow layer in the Makeup Editor. Right-click on one of the hair textures and select Find Image File.

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/5d754d6f-1223-4d11-aeb4-ed3c.png

Windows File Explorer will open up to the texture location.

You'll then need to navigate to the following location:

...\Reallusion\Template\Character Creator 3 Template\Texture\SkinTextures\MakeUp\4_Range\SkinTool

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/50750abb-eff2-4280-8bd6-83fb.png

On the Eyebrow layer scroll down to the Replace Section > Check the Active Box > Click and drag the EyebrowTool_ReplaceMask into the Range slot.

Using the Eyebrow Tool
(If you followed the steps above, you can skip this)

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/abade348-899c-4250-875f-1b9a.png

Replace the Texture Patterns with your eyebrow texture and then delete or replace the normal maps.

The rest applies to both of the above methods

On your eyebrow layer scroll down to the Replace section and change the Material settings as shown below:

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/23835685-80ff-4744-9353-44b0.png

Next click the color swatch > In the window that opens use the Pick Screen Color tool and match the eyebrow skin color as closely as you can to the surrounding skin. I used #c69b85.

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/ab1eb032-1c44-4579-b3db-59bc.png

Scroll down to the Noise section and check enable. Then change the Color settings as shown below:

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/3e546312-3cf7-404f-8bd7-ab73.png

Before:

After:

Just keep tweaking the settings until you get a result you're happy with.

If you don't want eyebrows simply delete the pattern textures, but only after you've finished adjusting the Replace and Noise settings as they will be grayed out as soon as you delete the pattern textures.

    Thanks Miles, I'll try this

Just encountered this problem. Seems like it would be easier/cleaner if the default RL skin textures simply didn't include eyebrows.

It's a lot harder to remove things than it is to add them as a layer (or whatever).
