hi miranda,

i saw on your page that i have to spend 400 dollars on software and 400 dollars on content.
Spend over $399 from both the Software and Content Stores during the Year End Treats period.
my problem is, i have all the software.
so will it be fine to spend the whole amount of 800 dollars just on content store to get the new release for free?

thx, ReiniWien

Hello Iclone user,
I just read this Year end treats thing. Do I see it right that the Iclone8 update is now chargeable...?
And did I understand that correctly with the price given?
Or is that just a pre-sale thing.... or....what did I not understand here?
Ok, with a purchase of so and so much you get it for free....but I have already bought so much software, plug ins and extensions....I don't have such a big purchase wish at the moment.
Greeting Arne

The new features are looking amazing but to be honest, I'm not very happy with many of the current news, I feel like I'm wasting a lot of money for nothing. I purchased 3dxchange not long ago and now it will be discontinued, I recently purchased the Curve Editor plugin and now it's going to be included in iClone 8 for free and I won't get a free update because I'm not interested to expend a big amount of money on the store for things I don't need in just two months, I hope the paid upgrade is not (almost) as expensive as purchasing iClone 8 as a new customer because if that's the case I'm out

Yup. I didn't need it, but I upgraded to 3DX Pipeline, just to have a complete set. I was planning on migrating from Maya to iClone for animations, but after using iClone and realizing I was stuck with 90s-era Poser puppeteering, I just export my characters from CC, do a quick rig in maya using HumanIK and do all my animations there. It makes me mad, too, 'cos I bought BOTH the new hair plugins as soon as they came out, popcornFX (thinking I could export the vfx), iRay plugin, SkinGen, Headshot, thinking I would be changing my animation suite. Thankfully, I didn't get the curve editor, but I realized quite quickly, I wasn't going to be using iClone like I was planning.

This is kind of a slap in the face, to me. It's nothing against RL, but I don't need their animations, I can make my own, so me being on the hook for another 800$, with them depreciating a 599$ software I just bought this year, kinda pisses me off.

I doubt I'll get anything other than CC4 and that's a big IF now.

You can spend the whole amount on content if you wish. You will still get iClone 8 and Character Creator 4 FREE.

Major updates from one version number to the next have always required purchasing an upgrade. So if you already have iClone 7 or Character Creator 3 Pipeline then you can just wait until the new versions are released and then purchased an upgrade for a discounted price.

Alternatively if you need any other software or content you can take advantage of the pre-order offers and get a FREE copy.

Hi...

iClone 8 and Character Creator 4 are not scheduled for release until at least Spring 2022. For those who have previously purchased 3DXchange 7 and the Curve Editor you still have many months to use them before the new releases are available. In addition iClone 7 and 3DXchange 7 Pipeline can still be used on another computer at the same time as iClone 8 so your previous purchases do not need to become obsolete.

Oh, so you ARE going to be offering a discount upgrade, then? Whew. That changes things, then. I don't mind paying an upgrade cost, but  I don't want to pay full price again. Honestly, all the additions would allow me to drop to the lower cost subscription service for Maya for just modeling. Still not a fan of blender, but that's probably 'cos I've been using Maya for over 15 years. XD

Thanks for the clarification, Peter. The way the website words it, there's no upgrade cost for owners of iClone 7.

Yeah, this is my plan too, I'll wait and see how much is the upgrade price for current iClone7 and CC3 owners and depending on that I might upgrade or definitely move to another software and start creating my animations there

If the upgrade cost is under 400$, say half what the full-price suite is, I'll consider it. What I pay in subscription fees for Maya, MB and 3DMax, could be vastly offset, if I can move to iClone. I can dump my MB and Max subscriptions and get the indie license for Maya. Be nice to dump the Arnold subscription too. I was miffed, when they dropped Mental Ray and released Maya with a single frame Arnold renderer. That was precisely why I looked into iClone.

By oonabe - 4 Years Ago
yeah, I think there are some alternatives, even when they might need more work than iclone but if that's going to save money long term they might be interesting ones, I personally am looking into Houdini because it has some very good simulations and procedural modeling and also Blender, which is free. Of course that would mean a lot more work but on the other side that's software that can do a lot more than iClone in other parts of the process.

but wouldn't $400 actually be the full price for both iClone and CC? At least is waht their current price looks like for me when they're not on sale ($199 each)

The full price (not upgrade) of CC4 is $299 and iClone 8 is $599. If both are purchased together the cost is $699.

This is why the pre-sale offers are such a great deal. You can purchase other software or content now and get both products totally FREE upon release.

If we pay only the upgrades to the latest version of CC and iClone. Do the plugins also get updated for free or do we have to buy them again or pay for upgrades on those as well? ie Skingen, Motion Link?

Edit: nvm found the FAQ on it.
Will the existing plug-ins be compatible with iClone 8 and Character Creator 4?

If you own the following iClone 7 and Character Creator 3 paid plug-ins, you will get a free upgrade version to be compatible with iClone 8 and Character Creator 4.
iClone: Motion LIVE Plug-in, all mocap profiles for Motion LIVE Plug-in, iClone Unreal Live Link, PopcornFX, Iray Render Plug-in
Character Creator: Headshot Plugin, SkinGen Premium Plug-in, Iray Render Plug-in
By michaelrbarton - 4 Years Ago
I think the reason iClone 8 is $599 is it has parts of 3DXchange Pipeline built in to IC8, plus some plugins (you have to pay for to use with IC7).

Character Creator: Headshot Plugin, SkinGen Premium Plug-in, Iray Render Plug-in.

The in-screen animation is the biggest pull for me. I HATE puppeteering animation. All it does is slow me down. I spend over 1500$ a year for Autodesk suite licenses. I can bring that down to 260/yr for just the indie license of Maya. I've already integrated CC characters with UMA for Unity, to replace the ugly looking UMA models. My biggest issue is characters with things like tails and wings. No matter what, I have to rig and animate those in Maya. I probably should have played with the demo of iClone 7, but I liked 5, when I tested the demo, I just didn't have a use for it. When that sale started in 2019, due to Coof and I managed to get iClone Pipe, CC Pipe, iRay, Popcorn, , Digital Humans, Skingen all 50% off, I dove right in. I was already familiar with how compatible CC was with Unity, so it was a natural purchase. That's when I realized it had puppeteer controls and went "Ugh!" XD

I will, however, give RL some seriously MAD props with their milestones. IClone and Character Creator get MASSIVELY better with each update. I just wish I could pass popcorn FX back and forth from iClone and Unity. :( The interface for iClones PCFX is way nicer than the external one and Unity's.

yeah, I can totally see that part, the thing is that the upgrade deal is already more expensive than the price I paid for these two pieces of software as a completely new customer not long ago and that including the Headshot plugin.

I don't know if including the pipeline / 3dxchange features into iClone 8 justifies the price becoming 3 times the price it used to be, specially for loyal customers who already bought 3dxchange or pipeline versions in the past having no advantages at all and seeing how they drop further development on 3dxchange.

Also the fact that only purchases done in November and December count for this deal is questionable in my opinion, I've spent near that amount of money during the whole year but just not at the end of it so I see no advantage from it either. I don't know, I was excited seeing the new features but I can't justify the price of an upgrade for what I get compared to what I already have and after having already given a considerable amount of money on RL software.

I'm really dissapointed to see the upgrade price from version 7. Motion correction should be a free update to users - or at the very least available as one of your infamous plug-ins... I've spent nearly 2k on your products and it still doesn't work very well. I wouldn't be suprised if the 'free' version of 8 has half the functions stripped out - thats something you've done in the past. Focusing on Unreal & Autodesk going forward, just tired of all the bate and switch.

Peter,
Peter, I want to ask you something. I want to make it clear if I understood correctly because of the translation.
Will iclon 8 and cc4 be released in the spring of 2022 at the latest, so is there a chance of an early release?
Or is it certain that it will be released in the spring of 2022? which is correct?
If I buy iclon 8 now, can I use the beta version?

- it will be released in spring 2022
- if you qualify in spending in other RL products in November-December, then you'll get a free version in January 22, 2022.

Spring 2022 is the planned release date. The full release won't be any earlier. At the moment you can't buy iClone 8 but you can take part in the pre-sale offer to get a free copy when it releases in the Spring 2022. There is no open beta  period currently running but if a decision is made to do so then it will be announced here on the forum.

The cost of upgrading concerns me as someone just getting into Iclone and character creator. After just investing quite a bit,
I am forced to reevaluate whether I should continue spending time
Learning this workflow if I’m going to have to spend another 7 or 8 hundred dollars to continue using the latest versions. I don’t plan on spending another 400 or 700 dollars in add ons as I already spent quite a lot. It sort of ridiculous to charge us users all over again simply because a new version of thw software comes out. I’m pretty listed at the idea and debating just dropping g it for another workflow I already know.
By lancelotcq2 - 4 Years Ago
The correct question is, is the upgrade price the same if you don’t go buy another several hundred in their products before Dec 1. I spent thousands on their software already and now they’re gonna gouge me for an upgrade if I don’t purchase a bunch of their other stuff. Ridiculous actually.

I'm wondering about backwards compatibility? Times are tough and I'm not expecting things to change much in the next six months so If I can't save all the way to the upgrade price for both IC4 & CC4, is it possible to just update iClone and still use CC3 or do they both need to be updated to V4? Do any of the new IC4 features specifically require CC4 avatars?

You will still be able to use CC3 to create characters for iClone 8 but obviously you won't have access to the many new features and avatar types coming in CC4.

Why not have a regular version of IC8 with parts not activated, just like the free version of CC3. When I click on skin weights to use in free CC3, it says I have to upgrade to Pipeline version.
You can price IC8 for $299 and CC4 for $149 without the upgrades. And for longtime users, you can knock $50 off each. That sounds more reasonable. There are some things in IC8 I probably would not use,
like the curve editor. I don't have enough knowledge in using some of the plug ins. And my PC specs are not up to speed. A lot of people will not buy IC8 because of the price. I would rather spend the $$ on getting
a better PC than to buy IC8 and CC4 at that price. You are pricing yourself out of the market.

By Ascensi - 4 Years Ago
1. Will CC4 allow the modifying of bones without deforming the skin? (reskinning) Some models need modification like twisting limbs so when mocap is used the parts can work backwards etc  but simply twisting the bones now deforms the mesh part.

2. Will CC4 have Body parts that can be snapped onto a character, like tentacles, 3 heads etc? A user should have the ability to retarget/assign the parts they want to use mocap with. I shared this on the feedback tracker years ago, and explained in detail how it could be achieved. Even now specific numbered vertex points on body parts with a single bone or complete limb could have a snap-to other matching vertex points with welding.

3. Are all features already decided? I'm wondering if soft body character physics is being developed or performance enhancements are coming like assign culling, automatic  Texture LOD (Hi res textures are swapped/streamed with lower ones in the distance. Mip Map is ok but hasn't evolved and textures should be streamed (reallocated for set distances) to reduce ram usage rather than be resident in memory. This is one of the great limitations of large scenes -not having enough memory.. iClone has a max texture setting option and I think this should be done per asset. Iray is partially smart this way allowing us to set the resolution for each material but this too should be dynamic based on distance! (drop a sphere, load 8k textures on it, start zoom out, you'll not see any reduction from texture memory usage with current Mipmaps. In my opinion it should be reducing the amount of memory loaded in ram real time as you zoom out.
I've also shared my method of increasing speed by more than 3x for all CPU processing - Iray exports,  fast processing of Physics baking by shrinking or completely removing the viewport, and another option that I haven't shared yet provides an additional 3x,  what's that worth to other companies and Reallusion? Also i.mergeproj -the ability to merge/couple & detach scenes to make larger or lessor ones, right now we can't do either and are often forced to rebuild from scratch.

I am curious as to when the CC4 WIP video will be available?

I am slowly adding to my cart to meet the $799+ amount (for both CC4 and iClone8), but since I already have so much content, I am finding it harder and harder to find content that I will actually use :)

I also have a question about the update/upgrade pricing:
I understand that going the $799+ content to get both CC4 and IC8 also includes free updates to my current plug-inns, but if I were to just buy an upgrade/update price of $600 for both, (when available) do I also get a free update/upgrade to all my plug-ins as well?  Please set me straight on that.

I'll get the new apps in any case, but if I can do it without buying a lot of stuff I will really not use, I'll go that route.

Looking forward to seeing the CC4 demo video.

Although I admire updates and upgrades, I do fall into the group that is very put off about just purchasing so much software and the plugins (Thousands of dollars) only to find out a short while later that you have to spend another 800$ est just to get the upgrades that are coming in a few months. I "JUST" got the new hair and beard stuff and suddenly this...

Now... I know in a perfect world, the end would justify the means, but I don't see this going any other way save for the "You know that new beard and hair plugin set that cost several hundred USD that was extremely limited, but touted as if it wasn't to garner sales? Here is an addon to finally get a lot more use out of it... that is only available in CC4... that you have to now purchase to be able to use it."

I sure hope I am wrong and that the deal of "Give us more money so you can give us more money" thing is done.

thx peter, is it ok to just spend the money for DA-points? without ordering assets at the moment?

Unfortunately the Pre-Sale Offers are only for purchases made in the Reallusion Online Software Store and the Reallusion Online Content Store. The offer does not apply to purchases from (1) DA Points (2) Reallusion Marketplace (3) ActorCore.

That's too bad, in particular not being able to buy ActorCore and have it apply. I already bought a pile of stuff to get the Elite2021 deal, and have hardly used it as there isn't anything left I want to buy.

I understand that going the $799+ content to get both CC4 and IC8 also includes free updates to my current plug-inns, but if I were to just buy an upgrade/update price of $600 for both, (when available) do I also get a free update/upgrade to all my plug-ins as well?  Please set me straight on that.

Yes, whichever method you use to get iClone 8 and CC4, all your existing plug-ins will be upgraded to the new versions for free. You won't have to purchase again or pay to upgrade them.

@helielfilmz I've asked for a better physics system on the feedback tracker that can be used on Characters as well to have discreet physical interactions like punch, pinch, grip and pull etc.  If it had a grid based particle collider spread evenly over body parts/materials, Screen space particle colliders might be an ideal solution for fast real time performance that could work between two Soft Body Characters at the same time using mocap!

It's listed under 3DXChange but I since noted it should be for iClone as I realized what is possible making my own Softbody Physics Character working in iClone,
If you like the idea, please vote for it here:  https://www.reallusion.com/FeedBackTracker/Issue/Request-to-allow-Softbody-Physics-on-character-s-skin-influenced-areas-are-to-determined-by-weight-map-painting
I don't know if they've finalized what will be added for iClone 8,  the votes are adding up fast!. iClone does have softbody physics for objects and it requires decent mesh resolution for proper deformations. Hair UV strips for the physics texture should be pure black at the root and gradually end with grey, so if you create hair its good to line up the UV hair strands straight & vertical with the roots at the top and tip pointing down for consistency and easy control.

Yep, feel exactly the same way and this has ALWAYS been an escalating issue with RL 'upgrades'. I've been with them since iClone2 and have most of their stuff. However, the content store contains nothing but junk when trying to use it in Unreal Engine. I've had to return everything I've purchased from the content store to use in UE as none of it works, too many material/shader issues.
So what if I buy 800 bucks worth of useless store content, get the free iC/CC upgrade then refund the useless content???

Hmm, I just realized after I wrote this that the same holds for third-party stuff from the Content Store.

TheOldGuard is a great challenger. I plan to buy multiple Chibi Chibi Weekly Specials and buy a moderate one, such as iclone7, for $ 799 in the second half of December. I'm sorry, it seems to be mounted, but this is my way of buying. This iclone product is a way to bear fruit in the opening of future lesson classes. By the way, I got permission from the realization company. The rest is permission from the parents' family.

By the way, the weekly special is real illusion once a week in Japan from 9am on Thursday to once a week in the US on Wednesday, but I don't know what time it is, but you can buy multiple real illusion products from 1 to 10 $ or more at that time. is. It saves a lot, but I don't know which product will come out.

Weekly specials are also available in the corner of the content store by scrolling and clicking. And the content and export licenses are cheap, as I say many times, I buy more than one to open the classroom.

また、ウィークリースペシャルは、コンテンツストアの隅にありスクロールしクリックすると出ます。そしてコンテンツやエクスポートライセンスも安いです、何度も言いますが、自分は教室開講の為に複数購入します。

This is an important and careful review of the basics. Realization product software and contents are 1 unit purchased 1 ID 1 content 1 unit. Offline Online Especially if you purchase multiple items and use them at the same time, add 1 to each.

これは基礎おさらいで重要で注意です。リアリュージョン製品ソフトやコンテンツは 、1台購入1ID1コンテンツ1台です。オフラインオンライン特に複数購入し同時に使う場合は1それぞれ追加ですが。

you can find a list of the plugins that will get a free update under point 6 here

So far ahead - really ?  I came to Iclone 6 months ago from Daz Carrara 8.5pro [ sadly not  supported anymore ] That program has had volumetric lights AND clouds for fifteen years oh yes and heaps of other capabilities not  fouund in Iclone, at least not without buying extras like the curve editor.!! Doesn't even have multi viewports [ default camera in Cararra is "directors" ] The mini viewport is not much use - cant manipulate in it and it doesn't render same as main viewport.
I love all the animation tools in Iclone but otherwise its a clunky interface with its never ending opening/closing of panels and massive footprint needs overhaul - Unlikely as its probably a result of the SDK they use.
I am really haviing a problem making decisions  owing to the way RI goes about selling their product. I might be willing to part with my dollars but the the way RI markets annoys me - I call it supermarket strategy !  50% off, to me,  means OVERPRICED to start with, so its hard to plan purchases if you wait for the "correct" price. Had aabout 400 dollars of product in my basket that suddenly disappeared because deal expired  - yet no expiry date was in my email offer . Upgrade ? Hmmm maybe. [ gripe over, ha ha ! ]
By animagic - 4 Years Ago
Carrara has indeed many fine features as have had many other 3D applications from smaller vendors over the years. However, they are either dead or, in the case of Carrera, no longer supported.

I don't believe people really appreciate the economics of keeping an independent 3D application going without selling out at some point as in the case of Substance or being gobbled up by the likes of Adobe or Autodesk.

I don't always agree with the way RL runs their promotions as it comes over rather clumsily at times, but I also know that there is no intended deviousness or greediness. I know many here work happily without a salary but that is not always realistic.

The important thing is not to buy the programs, but to make $799 worth of purchases.
You get free cc4+ic8 when you go over $799 in total for the program, add-ons and content.

But you will not use these programs until new programs come out, I recommend you to buy content and add-ons.
I don't know if iclone 7 and cc3 are required for the upgrade.

You don't need to buy 3dxchange and curve editor as they are already included in new programs.

$799 is still steep. It would be nice for current iClone/CC3 pipeline owners to only have to spend $699. But, I'm going to use the Black Friday sale to get a lot of animation sets that are on my wish list.
By yepkoo - 4 Years Ago
I also canceled some of my orders, I will do a more efficient shopping.
Black friday started 4 days before my refund expired, I was lucky.
Some animations are discounted on actorcore and black friday coupons are applied through the discount.
It also gives a $10 gift for every $100.
There are animations that are $50 difference.
But actorcore products don't count towards the free cc3+ic8 limit.

This is a good point and a question I have as well. I am a new customer, so if I purchase everything except CC3 and IC7, do I have to wait for the release of CC4 and IC8 to use any of the $800+ I spent on addons and plugins, or do I receive a copy of IC7 and CC3 beforehand for free?

On the upgrade page it actually says, "For new users, you can get iClone 7 and Character Creator 3 now, and free upgrade to iClone 8 and Character Creator 4", but I feel like this implies you can purchase the old software beforehand and get the upgrade later.

Would love some clarification before dropping $800+ on the store!

No. The pre-sale offer is based on the amount of money spent in the software store or content store before December 31st.

So if you spend $399+ you will get Character Creator 4 free. If you spend $699+ you will get iClone 8 free, and if you spend $799+ you will get both free.

Hi...

If you purchase $799 only on content then you will get iClone 8 and CC4 free when they are released in the spring but you won't get iClone 7 and CC3 now.

However, you can purchase iClone 7 and CC3 Pipeline now, plus some content or plug-ins to reach the $799 required spend, and then you will get iClone 8 and CC4 free as well.

I'm sure that Peter will give a detailed answer to the above questions, but I have a very strong feeling that it is not possible to purchase content for iClone and CC without having registered (purchased) copies of both. Of one thing I am sure of is that without having iClone and/or CC installed it is impossible to download any content as this is done using the Smart Gallery - and the SG only works from within iClone and/or CC. :Whistling::ermm::unsure:

Edit:
It would appear from the answer just posted by Peter that it is indeed possible to purchase content without owning the software.

By yepkoo - 4 Years Ago
However, it will not be able to use any content until the distribution of the programs begins.
Also I don't know if programs are required for some GIF giveaways.

It may cost more if you don't buy it as a bundle.

For example, ultimate digital human + headshot plugin + Hair & Beard Builder Combo costs $506.

But after adding the "Ultimate Digital Human Creation Bundle v2 with Headshot" package to the cart, if you add another product next to it, the "cartoon animator set" costs 660 dollars. So you're buying more things with a difference of $155.
You can add other products with your remaining limit, moreover you get cc3 and cartoon animator + many addons.
Sure, you can buy content instead of cartoon animator, but the others are almost certainly must-have items.
Of course, this was an example, it would be useful to examine the product prices and bundles.
These prices are because it's Black Friday, otherwise it's double :)
You need to calculate very carefully before buying.
With a good account, it can turn into a very profitable purchase.

Apparently the character design has been further refined so you would have some advantages in that sense.

Also, some of the new iClone features may not work with the CC3 characters. However, for the most part you can still use CC3 characters and animate them.

The back and forth between iClone and CC may not work as smoothly, because IC8 expects CC4.

I asked about this earlier in the thread and RL said I could still use CC3 with IC8 but I’d obviously not have access to any of of the new character features that CC4 would bring to the table - and of course,  IC7 won’t be able to use anything built with IC8/CC4.

Earlier generation characters can be used directly in later versions of the software, but later generations will of course not work in earlier software versions.

I believe it was mentioned that CC4 will have a conversion option to convert earlier generation CC characters to CC4.

It would be great if a pipeline to 3D Coat was introduced, the more so, as ZBrush has just been acquired by Maxon, a company that LOVES the subscription model.

You can still get perpetual licenses for Z-brush, but is unclear if future updates will be available, which have been free until now from what I understand.

It is a similar situation as when Substance was acquired by Adobe. I have an perpetual Indie license for which new updates are no longer available, even paid.

All I can say is, beware!

Probably even then, nobody can answer the question with any certainty.. I’ve been involved in a lot of beta testing for other apps and performance is always being tweaked and improved right up until the day it’s released. In my experience it’s pretty rare to be able to judge the final product’s performance from the pre-release beta.

Performance in iClone 8 and CC4 is, as it has always been, primarily down to your computer and in particular your graphics card. If you have an older computer with a weak graphic card then iClone 8 and CC4 are not suddenly going to make it like you have an Nvidia RTX 3090 installed.

But I think it is fair to say that if you have a powerful system and graphic card with plenty of video ram then you should notice a performance gain. However, this doesn't mean being able to animate 20 - 30 high resolution characters at once. For using larger numbers of characters you should look at using the lower resolution ActorCore characters.

It is a common misconception that the forum is the place for Technical and Customer Support. This isn't the case.

The forum is primarily intended for user to user discussion but is moderated by myself and I will try to answer some questions when I can.

So for one to one Customer and Technical Support you should use the form below. Support will endeavour to answer your questions, but please be aware that information about iClone 8 and CC4 is being announced in stages leading up to the release. For this reason you may need to wait for our next feature announcement videos coming hopefully later this month to find out more.

Hello can anyone tell me if we can import our own quadruped models from Maya and add bones/rig in CC4.
I have a few dragon models I have created I'd like to import for some animation once the new version are released. I've only seen biped in the demo rigged.

Hi 3DPixl,

I'm Fionn, the Product Marketing Manager from Reallusion :)
After confirming with our technical team, Character Creator 4 mainly supports creating biped creatures, instead of multiped animals, unfortunately.
However, this is indeed a high demand we've been requested from many artists/contest winners. It's much appreciated if you could post this 'dream feature' to the Feedback Tracker (or refer to Peter's post here), which would be automatically collected by our development team. Thank you very much for helping us craft our tools!

Best,
Fionn

All the upgrades, look awesome! great job Reallusion! but.. Character's still looks too flat.. SkinGen needs a fix to support displacement especially for older people and creature creation.  I've heard from tech that it would cause Characters to break/create seams.. yes, you can't just throw displacement textures on something that is not prepared for. I'm used to creating with Displacement, I know what's required and I know you have the tech built in to make it work -it's very possible and I could help you if you need it.

I also recently found a way for CC3/iClone to be lighter/have more performance, and will allow more layers that can handle the creation of displacement. I've reported it already but everyone should know that all Reallusion's non color textures, conversion and generation are using RGB color format and should be using Greyscale instead!

-why is this so important? -
Currently all the textures are taking up 2x the Vram/maybe performance and hard drive space than needed.. For example 1 simple prop are typically using THREE non color images but might use more! Each texture when converted to greyscale becomes half the size (AO, Metal & Roughness, Bump and Displacement) CHARACTER's are mostly using 3 non color for EACH material!   Substance Painter also has acknowledged this issue when exporting textures although Substance Designer works correctly. 3DCoat also has this problem.
After all these years (for me since iClone 5) these textures have been bloating projects, slowing down all your Rendering and real time performance.   I hope Reallusion will offer a reward for this and all the other research/suggestions I have spent my time at personal cost discovering.

I've also discovered a way how everyone can export Iray projects for rendering or render Iray direct faster (best choice rather than exporting a project if you use existing computer), bake physics faster by completely closing the viewport to get 3x more speed. (might have to additionally set iClone Resolution to 48x48.

I'm also the guy that came up with the method to disable/lower iClone's shader quality and increase virtual memory to 32 GB or more to increase stability, disable smooth mesh by subdivision (reenable in standalone) and allow large projects to be exported from Indigo which it seems was then also adopted to Iray.  Indigo is great, new version supports RTX acceleration and with the full Renderer you could have your own render farm and it also smooth mesh by subdivision can be reenabled in the standalone, Iray can not and isn't compatible -it would take days to export. Indigo should never had been dropped.  yes, I'm a bit off topic now but I'm just demonstrating that I know my stuff.   Anyway, mistakes are created and forgiven, but it costs everyone (including Reallusion) time and money.  I hope you reward those that take the time to improve the lives of others and Reallusion.

I'm not disputing that you might have found a way around it, but I recently tried displacement on a character and yes, it did pull apart at the seams.

Hello,
I have awarded free iClone 8 and CC4 upgrade and acquired the product number. The problem that I have is updating from iClone  7  to iClone 8; and CC3 to CC4. I checked the Reallusion hub for updates and there are no updates.

How do you upgrade to iClone 8 and CC4 from iClone 7 and CC3 respectively?

Hi...

iClone 8 and Character Creator 4 will not be released until Spring 2022. When they are released they will show up in the Reallusion Hub as separate installs. You can then install them onto the same computer alongside iClone 7 and CC3 or you can uninstall the older versions and just install the new versions.

Yeah,  you can't just throw heighmaps on a character and except them to work. There are two methods that can work 1. is take the  normal maps from each material, mirror it in photoshop because the normals are not correct/erratic and add it to the displacement channel for each material, set the smoothness to 1 in the adjust color panel.
And this is what can be done:

There is a problem with how skingen blends normals from layers, you can't simply layer normals, it needs mathematical pixel offsets and I've explained this in the feedback tracker/provided the research.

Any cracks between materials require displacement adjustments, 3DCoat for example, will export what each material's displacement map multiplier value needs to be set at but in my example above you'd just set the head to the ideal displacement multiplier yourself, then adjust the torso's multiplier next, then arms and legs so that there is a smooth crack free transition. You can open any texture in photoshop and darken the rim areas of the eyes on the head texture and nails on the arm texture and blur it to blend.

2. The other method I'm talking about is how models are prepped for displacement painting like my character here (custom meshes weight painted)  CC3 already has all the tech to make it happen for this method. They also have to stop the generators making non color images RGB instead of grayscale, or else all those textures become 2x the size, take up 2x vram and hard drive space.
This parasite CC3 Character is using is using my own sculpted mesh as cloth but on top of that is also using displacement.

My Troll
character using a CC3 + Character topology

Plus I applied soft body physics to make skin areas jiggle, something I proved works and could be made available to users if they reenabled physics for character they removed in early iClone 7.

I'm not gonna spell it out for them how to do it, I've provided a lot over the years and they pay other people to figure it out, so they can pay someone else or offer to work with/or reward, but they currently offer no reward for your time,  yet have no problem dropping a lot of money for big contests, it just seems like your doing it for nothing especially if they use a few of your ideas in the next release but you can't afford to get it. I'm not mad at Reallusion at all, it's just their current model and likely haven't thought about incentivizing in this way.

The only incentive for people contributing on the feedback tracker is if you are someone with a lot of money to drop all the time and need bug fixes, companies are likely cannot spare time to give them ideas. I've  dropped money since iClone 5.. For years they promoted to certified developers that they could get access to betas, I've asked but it never happened, there was no portal for this and then last year I noticed they removed that incentive.

I looked around, but what I have read got me even more confused.

Can someone explain me, if I already own CC3, IClone7 + bunch of other stuff.

* Do I have to buy a new CC4 and IC8?
* Is there discount for upgrade and how much?

If I understand correctly, I have to buy with 10%(?) discount new bundle of all the CC3/IC7/plugins so I can have the new CC4/IC8/plugins?

My understanding is that yes, unless you buy into one of the content offers that goves you a free upgrade, you will have to buy CC4/IC8 upgrades at the price listed on the web site. IC8 = $499, CC4=$249, and both together = $599. There have been a couple of very small hints that existing users might get a better deal when the products launch but nothing firm so I’d suggest budgeting to pay the listed prices. As far as the plugins go, at least at the time of launch, you should get whatever you currently own and are still supported updated to IC8/CC4 versions for free.

As far as I’m aware there will only be one verssion of both IC8 and CC4 which will be the equivalent of the current pipeline versions - with some additional things like 3DXchange and Motion Live rolled in.

I'm looking forward to trying out all the new stuff iclone and character creator have going on, so many little ideas of things I can do with these new features. Even just having volumetric lighting changes a lot, and i hope the engine really  can handle larger scenes. It's insane to me that I can run unreal engine 5 with ease, but iclone itself is slower with such smaller file sizes for sets and stuff.

Do we have any knowledge on if the sky system is getting updated?

Hi richardjohnhodges,

Unfortunately, the skysystem won't be upgraded in iClone 8 this time. You’re more than welcome to submit this 'dream feature' to the Feedback Tracker (or refer to Peter's post here), which would be automatically collected by our development team. Regarding the issues you mentioned for larger scenes, actually it's exactly what iClone 8 comes to offer - the greatly enhanced Performance and Productivity. You can watch our WIP2 video here to learn more about this feature. Hope it helps :)

Hi Fionn, Miranda
How much IC7 backward-compatible IC8 will be? What I mean:
One of the first things we'll all do once we'll install IC8 will be to load an existing IC7 project:
- Which default characters will be removed?
- Which plugins, scripts, physics, characters, morphs, shaders won't work?
- Which shaders/lights/shadows/filters will be affected?
Thanks!

Hi ampertox,

Basically, all your iClone 7 project will work in iClone 8, but we can not guarantee that everything will be the same, something might have changed.
For example, your animation key frame will bake to clip to prevent some unexpected results. And if we use the python script to enhance the workflow, you might need upgrade the code.
Hope it helps.

1 question I have that may have been addressed or not. I know there are a lot more expressions coming in ic8. With regard to Acculips, is there any potential that that might use more ARkit, typical animation keyframes, jumping within various programs my results seem to shift or vary and being able to perhaps refine certain animations in Blender etc it would be helpful if those were in the more universal file hierarchy? So I guess my question is... any updates to Acculips :) ?

Good question.

With the folding of pipeline into the mainstream, and export content now becoming the minimum price point, the landscape of iClone is changing.

Be good to know if things like this are still there, i.proved on, or one of the old horses that's being let out the back door to go live in a farm 'upstate'.

It's good to see that Motion Live will finally be part of IClone and not an optional add-on, but can you explain why the Webcam version of face tracking software is so much more expensive than the iPhone version? I mean, if I bought an iPhone X then I guess the cost would be about the same. But nearly a thousand dollars for a face tracking plugin seems (still to me) extortionate.

Wild guess from an Android user is that iPhone might have some sophisticated face-recognition infrastructure not available in a a webcam. Have you tried the webcam trial? When I tried it, the face of my character more or less exploded.
By R Ham - 3 Years Ago
Right now, the iPhone is all the rage because of its IR camera. Personally though, I've had some bad experiences with Apple products, notably their policies regarding login credentials. I've spent the past week researching non-rentware webcam mocap software, while evaluating Faceware at the same time.

Lots of webcam mocap products are in dev all around the world right now. Some have great promise, others look shaky. The best of them are a year or more away. Much as it would gall me to pay that inflated price for Faceware, the alternatives are slim to none at this time, and life is fleeting.

Visible light cameras, like webcams, like light, so be ready to provide light. Faceware needs its config noodled plenty at the start, too. All these things said, I may go with Faceware, myself. It will get us through until mocap becomes more ordinary.

By R Ham - 3 Years Ago
When the face-following Logitech webcams were new, a dozen years ago, they would not track dark-skinned individuals because their skin did not reflect sufficient light. Later, when Apple decided to embrace face ID, they added IR for reliability. IR reflects everything even when visible light is dim. When using a webcam, it helps to light up your subject like a photo studio. I use Neewer lights on the left and right, and I plan to add a center light.
By LarryPlane - 3 Years Ago
yeah. so it's 500 for an iphone plus 200 for the profile - 700
or 200 for a logitech webcam and 900 for the profile - 1,100
which makes the apple version 400 cheaper, buttttttttt still... 700 bucks to get some software to work.
Gotta be a way to get that price down!

The only real alternative is Blender. It's not as "Turn the key and drive away" as I would like, but it does allow some affordable mocap options.

will there also be any other new features that you havent show us yet on the WPs?

For sure there will be a few surprises not shown in the videos. Plus we have our two new CC4 characters who I personally think look amazing. ;)

Peter, cc4 and iclon 8, what week will be announced, at least tell me this please, last week I can avoid looking here every day, I'm tired of waiting

I can't reveal specific dates but I can say the release is very close now. You won't need to be patient much longer.

considering they didn't launch on saturdays or sundays, we have about 15 days of waiting or less

I think Peter could have pointed this out if new versions were to be released in 1-2 days. My guess is there are at least 7-10 more days :)

Maybe sooner. I noticed that the Reallusion Hub just got an update. Don’t know when it was originally pushed (I haven’t been using CC3/iclone 7 since CC4/iclone 8 was announced so i have only been checking for anything very intermittently), but i did notice it this morning. I definitely think it’s a few days away. Like this week.

New characters.  Does that mean new base meshes?

Certainly made my morning!  I just purchased the upgrade (for CC4 and IC8) literally minutes ago. (and yes, the Prime Coupon works as well!)
Since I'm in the middle of a project now, I'll wait a few weeks before I actually install it.

Nevermind me. :D

Just installed.  Is anyone else missing a lot of animations in CC4.  They appear to be in iC8.  Also, I thought lens flare was part of the upgrade.  Are these new content packs really needed or are they just there for previous versions?

wow its already looking amazing with a lot of features
thank you guys 😁😁❤❤
the only one more thing i would want its an update on the toon shader or better a shader material that we can apply it to any material we want. and to have the option to non apply outlines to all materials

looking forward to spending all day playing with this after my doctors appointment. So far I like that the smary gallery and content manager are merged. I had such a hard time explaining why they were separate things, and though one was for online and the other for offline, it was still confusing.

Brand new customer $699 for IC8 & CC4
Upgrade cost $599 from IC7 & CC3

A saving of $100 for previous owners compared to new?

I'm off this crazy train. Ridiculous price for upgrade, $100 discount and that is it?

I'll wait till you send some begging email with a black friday price I think, and I know you will. Seriously think upgrade cost should have been around $299.

Honestly CC4 hasn't changed hardly from CC3. IC8 looks like a lot of changes inside, but now basic run cycles and walks are going to cost you $200 extra just so you can use a gamepad?

Jeez.

I agree. I was expecting, or perhaps hoping that a price of around 399 dollars would be top for an upgrade, instead it's nearly twice that. It's a shame.

Sorry.  I see you have to check show subfolders to see the poses and animations.
By DeepcutAdventure - 3 Years Ago
IDK, I'm kind of loving it? It seems like there are going to be some bumps in the road, but it feels like things I didn't even bother submitting as an issue have been fixed through this and all the recent content upgrades. It's like i wrote down a list of everything I need to produce an entire multiverse of tv series and reallusion was like 'easy bro, won't even break a grand'.

By ingmarbuchner - 3 Years Ago
I absolutely agree. I want to be excited about this release, but the upgrade pricing is effectively a sham and not appealing at all... I'll have to wait for a more reasonable deal.
